I bought one of these knives and for the life of me cannot get it to take an edge. Anyone know what steel it has? It would have assumed it is cheap 440 something but it seems harder than D2.
@1969. Youve never owned one apparently. I have used one quite a few times, and i find them very useful. The blade isnt strong enough for penetration while opening, but when its open and locked, id say its pretty good at stabbing.
Their cool to play with but hardly functional. The blade locking mechanism is not strong enough tto make it a very reliable utility knife. And it is hardly a fighting knife. Open it then push the tip against the wall and see what I mean. You cant stab anything with them. The only use you can get is from slashing or cutting. Even then after little use the blade becomes loose and wiggles
OTF's are cool conversation pieces but I've never found them to be as quick to open or as functional as a stiletto design. I cary a Cold Steel Ti-Light and its the quickest opening knife I've ever seen.
@jeffbengtson too bad the "almost everywhere" aka Canada sucks ass. if your complainin why not move? or is it the healthcare? cause thats a legit reason,, americas stupid sometimes -_-
this was my first otf knife. it pretty cool and cheap, but if you want serious quality, than go microtech. just word of caution for the newcomers to otf automatics, even though the blade cant shoot all the way into you, you can still get a nasty cut. i know for a fact because my finger was in the way as i opened it.
got one. its ok if you just want to sit at home and play with it. besides that, not reliable, not able to preform every-day tasks, and it de-rails pretty easily. besides that. an ok otf if its your first
You haven't had the chance to handle a Lightning OTF from Taiwan, have you? I got two LIGHTNINGS now, so I'm kind of on a OTF kick, but they are so damn expensive. Let me know your thoughts about adding the PANTHER to my collection.
@BladeOps blade ops why are otf knifes illegal in canada? its not like theyre any more dangerous than a fixed blade other than the fact you could mod it so it literally shoots the blade
@xxthesilentshadowxx Its considered a "weapon". A regular folder can construed as a "tool", don't ever tell the RCMP your knife is for "defense". Same reason you can't carry pepper spray unless its labeled for use on an animal (bear spray).
@xxthesilentshadowxx LOL you totally didn't understand my point. I'll enjoy my auto knives here in the USA while you try to debate that with your bureaucrats.
@1dducks dude i did understand it im just pissed that autos are illegal in canada even for soldiers its fucking bullshit like really a fucking bowie knife is legal but a teeny auto otf isnt?

@jeffbengtson Not really. They're legal in 27 states. And you can carry them in many of those as well.

The Lightning is a super great knife. Take a look at the Die Hard otf it also a great otf for the money!

Not the Airborne-Ultra. We carry the Die Hard which is the airborne-ultra--different vendors use different names.
