I love your setup and your rodents look very well looked after. I am actually vegan and own both rodents and reptiles, it's a sad job to have to breed and know that soon they will be feeders but as you said the snakes have gotta eat something. I hate fluffy vegans who hate killing animals, nature is about giving and taking life but it doesn't mean anything has to suffer due to human greed.
@MegaCaco11 I put the grown adults with the snake, after humanely euthanizing them beforehand. Snakes, contrary to the beliefs of idiots like yourself, have to eat. Otherwise, they can live for months, slowly wasting away and eventually starving to death. I do hope you're vegan, otherwise you're a very special kind of hypocritical dumbfuck. I also hope you're no older than 8, based on your poor command of the English language.
@bouncingbunnies101 Wow, I didn't see this response till just now. Oops. I used to use CO2, but now I use cervical dislocation. While I never had any problems with the CO2, I just find cervical dislocation to be faster for them. Thanks. :) I just saw a feeder bin a while back and I will never, ever support that. It broke my heart to see all those mice crammed into a little dark drawer. These guys are happy as a lark and they eat better food than I do. :P
@xTOTALMADNESSx They live about 800 miles away, so they don't say much. My husband isn't keen on the critters, but hey, I'm not keen on his video games. :P
That is the radest setup! Woo, you go girl! The only quam i have, is , i studied about mice, and the only negative thing i could say, was the smell. The snake can smell the mice and the mice can smell the snake- which could induce stress, or the the snakes case a good appetite! haha. But...they don't look stressed and you certainly give them a good life unlike some other mouse owners, so kudos to you!
I love how you name all your mice, you giving me memories of when i used to breed!

why do u feed hamsters and gerbils to snakes? mice are supposed to be snake food and hamsters and gerbils are supposed to be pets. idont understand why people uy snakes instead of rodents. snakes show NO affection at all.
@spoonleTV They all make fine food for snakes. Mice are simply more prolific. You've obviously never met a snake, so I'll forgive your ignorance on their ability to bond. Are you vegan? If not, are you aware that pigs are smarter than dogs, or that cows are capable of being extraordinarily affectionate? There's this thing called the food chain that you would be wise to learn a little bit about before posting douchey comments on videos made by people who put a shit-ton of effort into their pets.
@abbeyroad3012 Tee-Hee! I'm vegan, I totally understand the standpoint you are coming from! Why should gerbils' or hamsters' lives be valued over the ones of mice? Snakes DO have to eat, and I love that you are giving the mice/gerbils/hamsters the most humane lives possible before feeding the snake. And euthanizing the rodents before being eaten? It spares them the fear of seeing the snake and not being able to get away. Bravo!
@littleworldofanimals See, you're my kind of vegan! It seems to mess with people's minds that I actually love my mice. They're happy, and they don't ever have anything to be afraid of. Euthanization is quick and painless, and Snakey eats the best, healthiest food in the world. Everybody wins. :)
I've been trying to breed mice for about a month now. The first group was 1 male and 3 females. They ate each other. It came down to 1 male and 1 female and he ate her. I fed him to a snake. 2nd batch I used 1 male and 2 female weenlings. They ate him. What am I doing wrong? I have plenty of food and water alt all times.
@Herikayn Put the females with the male, NOT the male into the females' enclosure. Don't breed the girls till they're 12 weeks old. Let them wean one litter before letting them get pregnant again. Remove the male whenever you see that the girls are pregnant. Give them a nest box and nesting material. Give them extra protein and fat in their diet- the girls need it to grow and feed big babies. Treat them well and they'll do what you want them to. Good quality food is also a must.
I am trying to breed my mice. they have been in the same cage for a week and 3 days but i can not see any signs of her being pregnant could you guys help me!
@webkinzlover1647 I breed them to feed to my snake. I keep babies I intend to breed and I adopt some out as pets, but most go to the snake. Snakes have to eat.. They're obligate carnivores. These guys have a much better life and a gentler death than any hamburger you've ever eaten. ;)
now the one that nearly killed the other is in the gerbilarium and the other one(my fave) is in a small hamster cage i think im going to swap them around cages though! see how that goes down with them
mines are two now and i think they are both females but i had to seperate them about two moths back because my bigger one nearly ate my smaller one and they had lives together all their lives before that and they are sisters
Hmmm, that's weird. They must both be females if they're two and one never got pregnant. Or both males, but gerbil balls are pretty obvious. That sucks that they fought like that.
i hate people feeding skanes mice and stuff but atleast they get a small taste of heaven befor they go to real heaven. Anyways must be a pain to clean all of that huh?
@m4plelover Hate it or not, snakes must eat mice and/or other small rodents to survive. These guys live a lot better than most pets. Pet store employees are typically so uneducated they sell inappropriate homes for pets and people don't know any better. I've seen it way too many times. It's very sad. I'm sure my animals would rather live a short life with me than a long life with someone who kept them in some tiny little Crittertrail thing.
Females need to be 12 weeks to breed (they can breed earlier but it isn't good for them). I really, really hope you'll do some very serious research before breeding mice. Animals are plenty of fun without putting them through breeding. It *is* hard on them. I breed them because my snake has to eat. Definitely do a LOT of reading and talking to good breeders before deciding to do this. I suggest MouseFancier(dot)com. There are lots of folks there who collectively know pretty much everything.
No, I'm not going to post a nasty comment here. There are enough rude comments on YouTube. I do find it sad that they are just being raised to be fed because it reminds me of how some animals just live to be eaten by humans. On the other hand, if I were to have a cat or dog, I probably wouldn't keep them on a vegetarian diet either and depend on others to kill their food for them (which is why the argument to not get a snake is pointless)... It's nice that you have so many pet mice though.
As a vegetarian, I agree that it's sad that some animals are raised purely for food. ;) I think we can also agree that these mice have it a million times better than the average food animal. I used to feed frozen mice from the pet store. I saw the trays where those mice were raised and it's really horrible. There were well over 100 mice in each of them. It made me dizzy to look at them. So this is a much better deal for the mice. They end up having only one bad day ever. :)
Um, duh. :P Mine is a corn snake. They typically eat mice or young rats. I don't have the space for rats so he gets mice and hamsters and gerbils. Be careful with catching stuff outside. It could have any sort of nasty stuff on it. Mites would be my main worry.

you shouldnt breed them at 4 weeks old, its very hard on them having babys at that age, wait until at least 9-10 weeks....

how do you sex a gerbil
rexjay12 2 years ago
Any age: look at the distance between the two openings on their bottoms. The distance on males is more than on females.
1-2 weeks (when their fur is coming in): You can see nipples on females, but not on males.
4+ weeks: Males have testicles. Females do not.
