Yet again, well done sir. I got lucky when I did this to mine because it was a flat trunnion (spelling?) and it was one of the rare ones that already had a hole in it so I just dropped it in with a stainless steel screw and nut.
dude, awesome video, I got a Saiga 7.62x39 for Xmas and I love it, the only problem i have is im in califronia. so we can't get 30 round mags because they are illegal but not illegal... if you don't have pistol grip. you can have a 30 round mag without a bullet button. but if you have pistol grip you can only use 10 round mags and need a bullet button (sigh) however i can buy preban 20 round mags for the AK-47 so yeah I'm as mad a midget with a yo-yo, but thanks for the video!!!
I wanted to scream at the video, don't use the Saiga as your first thread cutting test bed!! I hope you are satisfied with the result, in the end that's all that matters! Hope it will cycle ammo reliably. :-)
Youre quite handy for computer whiz Fred. When cutting threads, usually you go one turn in and half back, one in, half back etc. The backward movement is to cut off the splinters so they dont form one big chunk and clog the threadcutter.
@DudeNumberOnePlus Thank you so much for the letting me know the proper method for cutting threads. I really needed to know the proper way to do this for future projects. I learn a lot from my video from folks like you!!! Thank you so much my good friend!!!
some saigas work fine without one. the 5.45 conversion i did never got a bullet guide and has yet to fail to feed with half a tin of 5.45 ammo through it. thats using standard mil surp ammo and mags
@fredhart You did a pretty darn good job! I wish I could afford to do all that, maybe if I spent less money on on ammo, and other guns I could do it! LOL, I have an addiction, but its a good addiction!

Overly cautious is what tapping is about. Broken taps are nightmare.

So with the price of the gun and the price of the conversion kit would'nt it be cheaper to buy a regular ak74

YouTube Awards: Best "How To" video series of the year! Awesome work Fred.
The guns in which I have done my own "gunsmithing" work on are the ones in which I am proudest. That's a gun to be proud of. Thank You!

@paintballdude902 I think the mag release tab does not have to be filed too.
fredhart 1 month ago
@fredhart yeah i think it all comes down to the individual fit of the rifle. some may be a little too tight while other will work fine.

another great one! i was not aware you had to do this to make them fit, im surprised the screw in the middle of that ramp does not catch bullets
colwyn25 1 month ago
@colwyn25 The screw is sunk in and out of the way. You only have to make the stock saiga mags fit after this conversion, not the AKs.

Nice job, now we just have to see how well it runs. And maybe a good stiff shot of that Knob Creek may calm down that shaking. : )

The only thing I would not like is not being able to pick up any magazine an pop it in. But it is still cool to see this done.
ArtisanTony 1 month ago
@ArtisanTony That is why I finally did this, I wanted to use any AK mag which are far more available then the stock Saiga Mags.

@fredhart Oh, I thought you had to modify your AK magazines!
