  • Very sweet Tim:))

  • Do you know where to find the cords for the ukulele and the lyrics! See first of all my mom wants me to play it for her because, well my mom sang it to my brother. but he died =(! and because I have an audition to become a pro player.

    Thanks!

  • Looks so fun...I am thinking about trading my guitar in for a uke! I love this tune, you perform it so well. Favs!

  • Thanks, Karen! With a background in guitar, you'd be up and running on the uke in minutes.

  • HA, another instrument to embellish the world with...just what I need!! The wolves would have something to howl about for sure! teehee

  • Darling tune! 5 STARS!

    Thanks for the send!

    RagJazzMonkey Tom

  • Sounds like a great plan, Esteevo . Thanks for watching!

  • Fun!

I'm going to learn these songs, and play them to the kids I don't have yet! Good vibes. Thanks.....

    Esteevo

  • Tim, Just wonderful! Now if I can just tune in the Six Day Bicycle Race...... ;-)

Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent.

    Regards, J.

  • Wonderful! I can't tell, do you strum using mostly your index finger or your thumb? Just looking for a couple of pointers from a master! :-)

  • Thank you very much, heeter71! I use both the thumb and the finger. Generally, on this song I am using the thumb for the downstrokes and the finger for the up strokes. I like the subtle difference in sound, caused by which string is hit first. My thumb tends to hit the strings with the fleshy underside, while the index finger tends to use the nail. Also, I sometimes let the heel of my right hand touch the strings between the strokes for a dampening effect.

    You have a fantastic channel!

  • Thanks! :-)

  • Just beautiful, Tim!!! 5 stars!!! :))

  • This is great! thanks (I remember the Dick van Dyke show too!)

  • Thanks, Michael! I tried a few different versions of the song before I settled on this one. Seems everytime I play it I change up the tempo or the strum of the rhythm.

  • Dear Tim,

First of all, thank you for the heads up on the new additions!

I showed all of them to my Mom -- and she was, quite literally astounded. I certainly was on THIS one because my Mom sang this to me when I was a little child.

    Thanks for the links, too!

Please keep these coming! They are, quite literally, a joy. I think about all those days we spent slaving over animation cels in college - we could have been singing together, too! Ha!

    Love you,

    Laura

  • Thanks for sharing this with your mom, Laura. I love to astound people and should do it more often. :)

  • That's terrific.

Now for the inevitable "where can I find the chords/lyrics" question.

  • 2 thumbs up, heck a few toes too! The more I hear this older stuff from the 30's on uke the more charming I find it. Thanks for sharing! Very well done!

  • Thank you very much, reallife! And welcome to YouTube. I see you just joined, though you have probably visited before. There are so many enjoyable uke videos to be found here, and music from the 1930s is abundant, I'm glad to say.

  • Thank you, Adelle. It's good to hear that. I do give thought to what songs work best with my voice, and what works well on the uke.

  • That is one terrific song! I had never heard it before. I appreciate the history and background info you provided in your video description. Thanks!

  • I'm glad you like it, Shirley. Thanks. I don't think it's well-known, and it certainly deserves wider exposure. Janet Klein has recorded it on one of her CDs, but I don't know of other recordings. I sure would love to find an entire CD of Baby Rose Marie.

  • Your video's make my heart sing.

    michael

  • It's mutual, Michael! Thanks very much.

  • Unbelievable, that the song is 75 years old, isn´t it?

I don´t know Rose Marie. But wow. Great song. Great performance, Tim. Very charming, as usual. I love when you knock on the ukulele. Was fun to watch the vid. Jepp. :-)

    Cheers.

    André :-)

  • Thanks, Andre. I hope you will use the link in the description and view Baby Rose Marie's version. I actually like her arrangement better, but I felt the urge to do something a little different with the tempo.

  • Oh yes, I´ve watched her. She had a strong voice. I don´t like young girls with make up though. But I saw parts of the interview also and she´s very refreshing and charming.

I really loved your link to "Pepper Medley". Fabulous.
