  • was that little boy his son?

  • HAHA!! that little kid's the best xD

  • Imagine seeing a bunch of convicts in their orange jumpsuits picking up garbage with cellos

  • @amour16 Wasn't that a Beck music video? ha

  • is only all children knew that much about music these days...

  • 4:27 The soli souds like Boulez piano sonata.

  • I can't come up with a witty "8 people are __________" so I'm just going to say 8 people are idiots. Victor Borge was a genius.

  • @choirfreak26 If you can't come up with a generic comment about the dislikes then you're an even bigger cocksucker than Victor Borge.

  • 2:59 , the boy looks like Jack Black!

  • Who was the kid?

  • @LoveCindyWilliams I think it was his son Ronald.

  • @LoveCindyWilliams it looks like little ricky from i love lucy.

  • why cant comedy be like this nowadays?

  • i'm a percussionist and that little kid makes me proud :')

  • The few who did NOT like this video must be from the planet Klingon!

  • what about bass????

  • Who the heck could possibly not like this?

  • This cello also comes in five flavors.

  • Rimsy Korso-cough.

  • @Sword1479 oooh NOW I get it!

  • danke.

  • It's nice to see classical musicians not take themselves so seriously every once in a while. And as you can see from the video quality, it has been a WHILE.

  • "I'm Benny Woodwind!"

  • TADAAAA!! hahahha :))

  • this is not Victor Borge!!

  • @mistatomsom Well, who do you think it is, Anna Russell?

  • @MaskedMan66

    queen mother!

  • @mistatomsom Course it is! He was just younger then. Before he started his solo performance routines.

  • *cough cough cough* was that Rimsky-Korsacough? xD

  • "What's the difference between a violin and a viola?"

"The viola burns twice as long."

  • @2:30 what the hell is that trying to escape from the trumpeter's neck?

  • @onnajiuba Those collars are verrrrry tight. More then likely, I'm pretty sure it's his muscles in his neck flexing and making his neck expand.

  • I love it!

  • I can't believe the bass didn't get anything XD

  • that boy must be atleast six lol

  • For some reason at the end, I had this strong urge to play "Whack-a-mole"...

  • this wasn't what i was looking for but i thoroughly enjoyed it. thank you

  • Victor: Any ten year old can understand this...

Boy: I only understood half of it.

    Victor: How old are you?

    Boy: Five!

    ROFL!!

  • Hahahaha, Each one will play their solo ! XD

  • The Great Dane. How wonderful he was!

  • I love this guy!!!!!!

  • The "SITDOWN!" command made me LOL. XD

  • a classic

  • "Was that Rimsky Korsa-cough?!?" genius comedic timing!

  • @underdeprived I agree! hahaha!

  • Lol, when they played backwards they also played backwards.

Any ten year old can understand this phrase.

  • So funny!!

  • I certainly can use my cello that way... XD

  • The tune is from Rossini's William Tell.

  • @asian9090... It is the ''Looney Tunes'' intro to Tom and Jerry cartoons.......

  • whats the name of the last song that they played?

  • Comment removed

  • I believe it's Yankee Doodle...

  • it is it sounds so different solo kinda funny

  • Surely one of the most gifted comedians of his or any other era - Rest in peace, Maestro Borge - you have been an inspiration to me and my entire family!

  • the kid who lists the percussion section sounds a bit like WC Fields!

  • What's the name of the song the trumpet played.

  • The trumpet plays the Assembly of Trumpeters For Reveill, the first bugle call to start the day, in the military.

  • Does anybody else thinks he looks like Tom Hanks?

  • ya... rimsky-korsakov... I laughed like hell

  • Hahaha. Rimsky-Korsakov.

  • This is funny haha, enjoy!!

  • "Que humor mas extraño". en los time de ahora no se ve esto ....

  • thank you for your help... now it is clear... Borge is very funny!

  • "About face! Siddown!" Classic Borge, having the confidence to publicly break down & cartoonishly reassemble composers' orchestral masterpieces!

  • Thank you very much... Borge is very funny... And also a great musician.

  • can someone tell me what Borge answer when the guy with the viola says "Bach"? because I am learning english and some parts are difficult to understand

  • Dear 'henseltetude' ... Victor says 'Ah you are the long haired type...'... referring to dogs as the viola player said 'Bach'... Funny stuff... :0)x

  • He says "ah, you are the long-haired type?" because the viola player doesn't have any hair. Hope that helps. :)

  • "ah! you are with the long haired type"

  • He says : "Ah, you are the long-haired type, uh?" It refers to 18th century wigs, and to the viola player's baldness.

  • A person who likes classical music is referred to as a long hair. The joke about a bald headed long hair goes back far beyond Victor Borge. It's got nothing to do with dogs.

  • lol that was fuuuuny! lol

  • Gode gamle Borge! de laver ikke ikke sadan nogle som ham laengere!

  • Wonderful comedy from the good old days! Sure beats what passes for comedy today. Borge was magnificent!

  • At 1:12

Borge -This is so easy to understand that any boy 10 years old can understand it. Very easily.

Borge to boy -You understand it?

Boy- I only understand half of it.

    Borge -How old are you?

    Boy -Five

    Borge -OK

    LOL

  • This should be called the Victor';s Introduction to the Orchestra

  • still very funny

  • one of my faves... the greatest dane known to the world... i think it is sad he had too leave Denmark, but knowning that he may have been killed had he stayed, i appreaciate his flee to the states...

  • Why might he been killed when he stays in Denmark?

  • Because he was poking fun at Nazi Germany in the earliest part of his career and it got him on a Nazi blacklist. Victor ended up fleeing on the last ship that was able to leave Europe for the United States before our entry into World War II.

  • Because he was making fun of the Nazis reportedly and Hitler wasn't too thrilled with Victor's sense of humor.

  • Whore strumpet !!!!

  • Horse trumpet, hon. :)

  • It was supposed to be a pun, hence the funny. :D

  • LOL

  • "cough cough"

    who was that rimsky korsa"cough"

ROFL that was great humour :)

  • This reminds me so much of Leo Bernstein's collection of Young People's Concerts (1958-1973), which is very serious (but also very good). Since this clip of Borge must be from the early 50's, his parody precedes it's soon to become serious counterpart!! It does make me wonder whether Bernstein was inspired by this interaction between Borge, the orchestra and the audience!?!

  • well, they were great friends. you should see the video of borge at bernstein's 70th birthday. he plays a wagner themed happy birthday. its great.

  • I havent' see V.B. looking so young before. I didn't relaise he used to be Walter Matthau! ;-)

  • "Ahh you were the longhaired type!" Perfect!

  • What else can be said? Pure talent the whole lot of them! Even the young boy was funny.

    timesobserver DOT blogspot DOT come

Please take the "e" out of come.

  • The woodwind family:

"Sam Woodwind, Perry Woodwind, Frank Woodwind, and his brother, what's your name?"

  • I almost choked when they actually played backwards!

  • Yeah! from 0:50 to 1:00, when he says "backwards" they actually play the music backward!! Genius!

  • He was truly a musical/comedic genius. One of America's greatest pianists.

Also - does anyone happen to have his performance of "The Blue Serenade", which was on (I think) the Hollywood Palace? That's incredible!

  • He was Danish. I'm just thankful he came over to the United States to make a living.

  • U know, he went 2 usa 2 escape from Hitler.

What a sad story it would have been if Hitler got him :(

  • there was a lot of great pianist hunted by nazi rite? Szpilman...natalia karp...
