I only have local news and the only deeper view I get into politics that I get is, "Oh, well George Bush got a new cook for the White House" I grew up with BBC and when I moved here, I get my local news stations which are crap.

I think that you will find that the ones that watch Stewart/Colbert are extremely well read, have many sources for their news because they know Fox, CNN etc are crap and that is why they love TDS and TCR. If you want debates with people who actually understand current events, you need to act like you can handle them. "Watch the fucking video" doesn't work. It makes you look like you have a lot of growing up to do. You may run into fewer problems with unintelligent debates if you appear to be capable of understanding those debates. I only have local news and the only deeper view I get into politics that I get is, "Oh, well George Bush got a new cook for the White House" I grew up with BBC and when I moved here, I get my local news stations which are crap.

A weak and shallow glimpse at what Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart do on their shows. No, they don't host debate shows and as such, their comedy can be juvenile. But you absolutely cannot completely disregard the fact that 80% of their "disses" are based in fact and well crafted. Just because they're a phenomenon doesn't mean their following is entirely comprised of "sheep" and just because you try so desperately to run against the grain doesn't make you any better than any one of us.
