  • lightsaber is real

  • One of the much better lightsaber effect videos i've seen, keep up the good work.

  • The virginity is strong in this one.

  • @jldkrank haha agreed.

  • @jldkrank So you claim him to be a virgin just because he did something that involves star wars? Asswipe.

  • @Wikkanz Click the link in the video description, look for the tutorial, and your question is answered in the "handling obscurities" section.

  • I see you're using a Lightsaber model of some sort... but which one, and where can I find it? I have a cheap Walmart one that sucks balls. XP

  • @iteachvader Qui-Gon Jinn toy lightsaber that came out when The Phantom Menace came out. I took the plastic blade and used fbtravis' tutorial (which I can't seem to find anymore) to install a CPVC pipe into for prop blade use. I'm pretty sure that specific lightsaber toy has been out of production for years, but if you search around eBay or something, you can possible find one.

  • @iteachvader its not real

  • @0w3nhi I know it's not real. What do you think I am, 5? I'm 16 for god's sake. I know Lightsabers aren't real! i just noted that he was using a TOY model of some sort, and not a plain old rod, or broom pole.

  • Really good! Motion blurring was spot on! Work on that hilt lensflare now so the blade is the width of the emitter.... just noticed you made this 4 years ago :P

  • pretty damn good...

    really damn good

  • nice test you should totally make a LightSaber Duel with a friend. Just make sure you choreograph it, if you decide to, and study Ryan Vs. Dorkmans vids for extra ideas..

  • COOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • name of the program you use ? ..

  • !Great Video Test!

  • pretty good effects 5/5 >.>

  • damn amazing. needs sound tho. good job.

  • FREAK!!!

  • 12 tried this and had their head cut XD

  • GAAAAAAAAY

  • @ReeveNNNNNNNNN lets see you do better asshole also this vids like 5 years old

  • Umm some of you are actually retards... he never said it was a real lightsaber... you obviously didnt read the description that states its a test clip of using after effects, seriously get a fucking brain. good clip man.

  • Fake.

  • good but i want to see some green light on ur face and clothes ;D

  • How you make that?

  • wait was that supposed to be your shlong? if so mines bigger

  • @epicscream1234 lame

  • @epicscream1234 hmmm... maybe

  • very wellmade, a better camera and it would have looked like the real movie ;)

  • one of the best lightsaber videos i have seen

  • beatiful background and house! ha ha

  • wow thats amazing how long did it take and what adobe after effects did u use also can i use adobe after effects CS3 to make

  • Awesome!!!

  • Thanks!

  • where did u get the lightsaber it actually looked kind of real

  • i got the lightsaber from walmart when phantom menace came out. i gutted it and stuck a prop blade in it using travis's (fbtravis) tutorial. i made the effects with adobe after effects with ryan weiber's (check video description box) tutorial.

  • @rezurrxtion um sorry but wht adobe after effects did u use

  • @rezurrxtion so was it a toy or a replica?

  • @legostarwarsjedi2 It was a toy but I replaced the toy blade with a CPVC pipe wrapped in bright orange tape (to help track it in After Effects). I made the prop blade using a tutorial fbtravis (Three In The Afternoon) had.

  • @rezurrxtion was it chromakey tape

  • @legostarwarsjedi2 Just orange duct tape.

  • perfect

  • lol flattering.

  • Really kewl.....better than the actual movies.

  • How is that even Possible....

What you mean to say is that he made the effect just like the movies

  • omar, agreed. this is NOWHERE close to movie quality.

  • No.....It is Actually the same.......its exactly the same...

That douche thought it could top the movie....

thats like no way........the movie made it look best...So did you...Well done

  • Well... thanks

  • aaron, that is flattering, but like omar said, it's still a long way from movie quality. but i appreciate it nonetheless.

  • how did you do it

  • adobe after effects. ryan wieber tutorial (check the video description box)

  • I'ts Qui Qon's saber

  • haha yes it is.

  • nice one

  • thanks thanks

  • That looks really awesome!

I want to try this myself :D

  • thanks a lot, you should!

  • good job.

WILL SOME ONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT PROGRAM TO USE! also where do you get the sounds?

  • its called adobe AFTER EFFECTS and i cant help you with teh sounds sry =] hoped this helped

  • mario, it was adobe after effects (like random warehouse said). the sounds are from the vast reaches of the interwebs.

  • Very good job on the rotoscoping.

  • thanks, i appreciate it.

  • good stuff

  • thank you

  • Nice done^^

  • it was alright, but i appreciate it.

  • nice vid

  • thank ya

  • that was really good for a test xD

  • hey man thanks

  • Good joob, u'r inspirate me :)

    hhihihhi

  • pantic, ryan is where the real inspiration is.

  • yeh, I agree with neoclock. This is an actual good use of the tutorial, unlike 90% of other youtube vids. I'm getting an HD camera soon, and I'm gonna try at lightsabers with AE myself. One thing that you can do better, (and this is like, pro nitpicking) is that at one point I saw the shadow of the dummy blade on your face. In the movies 1,2,3 they took out the shadows.

  • im starting out with lightsaber tests, im using presets but i was thinking about trying out ryan wiebers tutorial, and if their ganna be this good i'd be glad to use this

  • yeah ryan's stuff is pretty pro.

  • Indeed they removed the shadows. But it takes much longer to edit and remove a shadow you know. Just a small blooper in this awesome video.

Star Wars has more then 300 bloopers :P

  • gmazin, yeah hah it was just a basic test. lol if i was ever getting paid for a big budget version, i would pro nitpick the shit out of it too. glad you like it.

  • FINALLY! someone with after affects who can make a good saber other than ryan and the crew.

thank you for your beautifully made saber

  • Why thank you, that's quite a compliment. I haven't done any roto work in a year though, so I am a bit rusty.

  • Really great job man ;)

Look realistic, keep up the good work!

  • Hey, thanks man!

  • Im the sith in "Remnats of evil" here on u tube with 89,000 views and I think this is pretty awsome good job

  • Good job.

  • Thank you.

  • What kind of software and how do you do this? its pretty cool men ^_^ i do wish you're my neighbor really... ^_^

  • did u make a new layer n like go over the stick loads or did u use a preset? i dont kno how people get it so perfect, wen i do it its so wonky

  • From what I think you mean, then I did a new layer and went over the prop blade. I didn't do a preset.

  • Awesome dude nice work!!! thumbs up!

  • Hey, thanks a lot!

  • Nice work! Are you using Adobe After Effects and the Ryan Wieber Method? He has a tutorial here on YouTube. If you are, you can make the ends more round by adding more "pen points" at the edges when you cut out your lightsaber core from the white layer, making the ends less edgy. The more "pen points", the more round your lightsaber end becomes. Hope it helps.

  • Thanks, man. I haven't really made a saber video since this one. And that was almost a year ago. I need to brush up my skillz.

  • it looks very real

    good job

i want to see more videos

  • And I would like to make some more, but they are time very consuming, so maybe in these coming summer months I will be able to make more. But thanks though, I hope that when I start to do more that I won't have forgotten a lot.

  • hey how do you round off the end of the saber? vid looks great

  • theres a tutorial on the side bar that i used to make this. i think you have to apply a median filter for the rounded off look though. although, i still couldn't the roundness i wanted, so to me it still looks a little angly

  • amatuer. good stuff but step it up man.

  • Awesome, that looked great. Do you know if this type of effect could be done in Adobe Premiere Elements?

  • I actually don't know if it can or not.

  • I have premier and It cant

  • And this is coming from a guy whose only video is called "Adventure Quest, Thunder Mountain Ownage!!".

  • so true. nice saber

  • Thanks man

  • oooooohhhhhhhhhh ok

  • at 00:17 u kinda cut yourself

  • no, the saber is going behind me.

  • it's actually more cool when there's no sound.. those light sabers should have been silent from the beginning.

  • lol i have a blue one...with sounds :D LOL! but its good still!

  • how do ppl make these?

  • with the power of awesome

  • ha...ha...

  • and adobe after effects

  • kk ill have to get it soon. I want my own lightsaber now!!! is it hard to make?

  • not really, there are tutorials. it's just time consuming, and it gets kinda mind-numbing after awhile. but when you finish, it's totally worth it

  • yeah it looks it. how long did it take to make that?

  • well i kinda stopped working on it for a month or two when i was halfway through, so it's kind of hard to say

  • so in after effects do you have to do every frame or do you put the points down and then just add rotoscoping to those certain frames

  • you have to put the points down in every frame, but the glow comes at the end.

  • thanks

  • i watched his video but it only did it for one frame and he fanned the light saber -.-

did you do it frame by frame or is there another technique?

  • your pretty good with a lightsaber

  • Hah thanks, banditcar has some saber swing tutorial videos that are pretty cool.

  • dem nice rotoscoping. but if u make round edges while u swing it. it'll be like BOOM. dem nice. i can rotoscop it for u man. just send me ur video without effects.=)

this is my email. assasin_orochinagi @ yahoo. com

    check out my videos too.

  • Pretty good roto work man.

  • Thanks man. It took me a while. I did most of it a couple months ago and I got completely burned out from it, so I stopped for a while and then finished it a few weeks ago.

  • Meaning sometimes with fast movements, theres a strong motion blur, so often times you have to guess as where to rotoscope the saber for a particularly blurred frame. Is this an issue for you or is it fairly easy to tell? I'm unsure because I've been using a Still picture digital camera's recording feature for my videos. Many frames are really blurred and some enough to the point that the saber blade/pole disappears. Wasn't sure if this was for all video cameras or just lower end video quality.

  • Ah, I see. Yeah, I had that. Those ones you always sort of just have to guess and take a risk, but it usually ends up good. But yeah I got those.

  • Looks good. The rotoscoping job is well done, seems to flow evenly between each frame. Did you get much blur when recording this?

  • Not exactly sure what you mean, but if you mean whenever I swing it, or just any other movement, then I think yes, a little. But I'm still not quite sure what you mean.
