I don't get it..I thought compulsories the music was the same. This music is different from Shaposhnikova an Illenko from same competition. Same in 80 Olympics, the Romanian compulsory music was different than Soviets, but the choreography was the same
This compulsory routine is incredibly beautiful: I love the music too:) Its the same music for the 1980 Moscow Olympics compulsory routines. I wish compulsories were still competed today: so many gymnasts now lack even the most basic fundamentals such as amplitude in things like split leaps(are you listening Shawn Johnson???).
of course its the same music, because this was the lead up to the 1980 Olympics. They did this same routine from 1977-1980 until the new Olympic quad came in 1981.
Umm don't dis Shawn Johnson. She is a great gymnast who works really hard. Just because she doesn't act like a ballerina as well as a gymnast doesn't mean she is not good it just means she is focused on the sport she is doing.
She's doing this still with a leg injury. It's quite obvious she's hurting. I wished that salto injury did not happen to her. She deserves to live a happier life.
No, she is not "doing this still with a leg injury." The1979 Spartakiade was held in August, 3 MONTHS BEFORE Elena broke her leg training for the World Championships . But anyway, you think you see that "she's doing this still with a leg injury" ? You do her memory and talent no favours or respect with your ill-informed imaginings.
Did anyone else notice that the sequence from 0:31 to about 0:37 is very similar to a section of the '93-'96 compulsory floor?
Words cannot express how sublimley graceful this routine is. Mukhina is a GODDESS!
Who is the lady who pops up on the bottom right corner of the screen at 0:19? I wondered this years ago, whenever I was watching my tape of Spartakiade. She pops up during several gymnasts' routines, IIRC.
Mukhina was so incredibly sexy and beautiful! She was one of the most incredible gymansts who ever lived. She was every young man's dream girlfriend in the late 1970's. What happened to her was one of the worst tragedies in the history of sports. I am sure that she is in a better place now.
everytime i see one of those 3/4 saltos, it really makes me cringe! can't help but think of mukhina landing on her neck, breaking it and being paralysed from the neck down, and recently died before her time. RIP
thank god they are banned! HATE THEM WITH A PASSION!
Never forget her!!

Why did she have different compulsory music than the other gymnasts?

I love this floor music. So old fashioned and classic! So is Elena's compulsory (classical).

Elena-queen of gymnastics. Her routines so airy, anxious, tender. Love her forever!

What a perfomer! Besides Silivas' and Podkopayeva's floor this is the best compulsory floor I've ever seen.

Have you seen Mostepanova's 1983 compulsory floor? Just as beautiful!

She died on the very night there was a celebration honoring the great Soviet Hockey Dynasty on Red Square.

It's 1979. I'm pretty sure it was before Europeans when she competed with a broken leg.

I've never seen a tumbling routine this graceful. My favorite part had to be :20-:29 -- it's like her body can't even be bothered to obey gravity.

KDJY4, her accident happened RIGHT before the 1980 olympic games, so I'm guessing somewhere around a year.
