I just looked up a few pages on Frida kahlo and its really disapointing some people dont have all that much sense and classify her under "realism" and "surrealism" (yes both at the same time) then clearly say that she represented her REAL life in her paintings...Just because paintings may be allegorical doesn't necessarily make them surreal. Even Frida Kahlo herself disagreed with Breton saying her paintings were surreal.
This video makes the exhibition look very cold. When you are there, there are hundreds of people watching the painting. Over a dozen of ppl surround a single painting and you are also given an audio headset that helps you analyze the paintings and provides you with the historical background behind it as well. The exhibition was truly an inspirational experience. One cannot say they do not like Frida until you actually see her paintings. I never considered her a surrealist painting & now I do.
I wouldn't consider her a surrealist painter since she isn't representing elements of the unconcious or the residue of her dreams. On the contrary she represents in her paintings the pain she went through in her life, in reality. Her pain wasn't a figment of her imagination but something she endured every day. What may perhaps be considered as surreal, is the way she incorporates deeper meanings into her painting.
Interessantíssimo!!

Frida Kahlo, quote: "I never paint my dreams or nightmares, only my reality"...In one sentence explains why she isn't a surrealist painter.

No... they only allowed the press to do so at the press preview and only with an advance permission... that's when I shot this video.
