Ikaruga is brutally hard if you're playing for score because it taxes every skill you use when playing a shooter--memorization, pattern recognition, reflexes, and even some puzzle solving.

But if you're just playing to finish the game, it's a little easier than average as far as shooters go.

As utterly, absurdly close to perfection as this is, it didn't make my brain short out like some of RNA's other hard mode boss runs in this game, reason being that this one has a rhythm to it. The other bosses are more chaotic and require you to move around a lot, yet he raeped them anyway.

He has to shift his aura in rhythm with the homing lasers that come from the arms, while pulsing forward through the spray fire keeping in mind that his movements are SEVERELY limited by his color shifts. im thinking about getting this game. ive looked it up on wikipedia, and the way it works is you can change between a light or dark ship, and there's, as you can see, light and dark bullets. you absorb bullets that are the same color of your ship, and that's what this guy's doing. when the rows of light bullets come, he goes into light mode, and when the dark bullets come, he switches to dark. all he really has to dodge are the ones coming at him diagonally, it seems.

Nope. The dreamcast's hardware is used up so much that the game slowls down to prevent framerate skips.

this is actually pretty easy. watch carefully the color switch happens to a predictable rhythm, just watch for those odd dissimilar bullets in the waves.

LOL try it for yourself then come back and say it's easy. The way you do it is to switch polarities and release your enerygy at the same time while avoiding the bullets of the opposite color. Unless you put switch polarity and fire on the same button, it is very difficult. I can do it for a while but I can't last all the way up to 1 second left.

In Ikaruga you can chane your polarity from black to white or vice versa. When you are white, you absorb white bullets for their energy and do extra damage to black enemies while the opposite is true for being of black polarity.

He turns white at the white bullets and black at the black bullets to shoot his laser over and over again.

When RNA did this without firing, he managed to get to 24 seconds before losing it. To see that video, search for "Ikaruga - Tageri Hardcore" by pbsaffran or look in the Related Videos window.

This brings him on par with SWY-Yusemi when it comes to finishing Chapter 5 on Hard difficulty. :)

unfortunately, yes it is; and the mid-boss of Chapter 3 is mirrored.

and then the hitbox of the giants enemies at the start of chapter 5 is larger.

the Dreamcast version is the perfect arcade port, but i admit that the gamecube version is very good too, replays and you can select a specific zone to practice each chapter.

Today i tried to play in TATE mode, and because of the higher resolution, there are MORE slowdowns than before
