Has the minister forgotten that child porn is illegal antway, the police are constantly looking for this illegal stuff. I think he has forgotten about it.
Conroy is a hypocritical arsehole of the highest order and can stick this filter where the sun don't shine.
@ale848 Nah mate please stay and fight. This is fighting for your country, not invading Iraq for oil. We have to be strong and make choices to change. Remember, they are working in our interests, not vice versa.
Pathetic BS excuses, there are DOZENS of internet security programs so there's no need for this. Its just a bullshit excuse to put in this manipulation tool to adjust it to their will, whenever they like.
next it will be "bad" video games then "bad" movies then maybe "bad" music. Then finally we can all live in Conroys utopian peacefull sex free society
Protecting kids from porn? Before the Net, kids pulled off to underwear catalogues shoved indescriminantly in letterboxes. Now they can find some hardcore online. So what? What is the objection? What is happening infront of the kids' eyes or what is going on their minds. I assure you, they aren't making sweet sweet love. They are banging like battleships. This filtering system is like saying that the rustling of leaves creates the wind.
@UberNoodleX And of course, I am talking about teenagers (who are still kids) going through puberty, having natural interests and feelings, and actually depending on their PARENTS/GUARDIANS to drop the puritan pretense and give a little advice and understanding. The gen X and Ys have obvisously forgotten what it was like to be young. Most content is LEGAL in context, but blocking it in way that makes that context impossible to reach, is wrong.
@UberNoodleX I understand that officially, the filter will use the OFLC's rating systems as guides, but in the end, unless EVERY SINGLE SITE is entered by hand, there is no hope that a large percentage of LEGAL content won't be blocked just to save some kids from phantom kiddie porn. Face it, that kind of stuff is found by people who know where to find it - not on Google.
Fuck Internet Censorship, If you've got kids - Download and install Net Nanny software on your PC. Better yet, sit next to your kids when their online or get them the fuck off the computer and send them outside to play. For fucks sake are parents that fucking irresponsible these days that they leave their kids unsupervised. Pay more attention to your kids activities and maybe this wouldn't be a big deal in the first place. Fucking hypocrites.....
As romantic as that sounds, what form of governance would you have us replace them with? That course of action would only lead us down the path of feudalism or dictatorships, or something as equally bad.
It would perhaps be a bit more productive to actually let the pollies know that you are dissatisfied with these decisions through organised (and civilised) rallies.
Some parents are really irresponsible these days. Most that do support this plan know nothing about computers or the internet. They just don't the care about the rest of the population of Australia. In a sense
if a parent "cannot" look after their own child on the internet. Does that not make them an unfit parent?
I am in the IT business and websites like this and many others will be blocked. I would even foresee another popular website like "Ebay" being banned as well.

Can't remember which ISP CEO said this "The very people you are trying to protect are smarter than you".
Internet censorship is going to cost us more money, time and our freedom.
