having this in the US would be great. wouldn't have to get that sore ass feeling from sitting in a car for 6 hours. at least you'd be able to get up and do... train stuff haha. better than airplanes too
Actually we do, but it's only in the northeast corridor and is not that state of the art as the ones in Europe and Asia. But hey, once the US get started on high-speed rail, the latest technology would be used and I'm confident that it would be better than the others.
Join the real world......US also does not have any high speed rail system which does not make you laugh or cry. Guess they like their cars too much....the Brits like their buses too much and have been well served by the bus companies until now....In Asia buses are craps and cars...they belch out too much smogs...and smokes....We are also crazy drivers too(so are the Yanks come to think of it)...
they were going to put in more HSR in 2002 but pariently the Terroist strike the World trade center so the war in Afghanastin and Iraq prevented the project int he U.S. thanks to Bush and the Terroist.
@pinkenba55 "High speed train" counts as one going 90 mph+. Our Acela can go 150 in spots so we have a high speed rail. Might I ask what you meant by making you laugh or cry? lol
umm...no we didn't??!? I think you'll find in it's current form, high speed rail was invented by a mixture of the French and the Japanese. The UK's government fucked any hope of ours up in the 1970s when they chose to follow silly projects like the APT.
I am glad to see the fruits of our labor. I am one of those Filipino engineers who contributed to this project. We built the tunnels, the viaducts, the bridges, earthworks, substations, trackworks and the stations itself. Aftwer 5 years I left Taiwan when we completed the civil works and I left Taiwan with sadness coz learned to love Taiwan. Taiwan is a great country with great people and beautiful sceneries. Thanks Taiwan for being a good host to all of us.
Taiwan? Taiwan?!?! Taiwan has this and California (or anywhere in North or South America for that matter) does not have this??? The USA really has fallen behind. Now I think that we are fast becoming the third world nation as China, Taiwan, Singapore, etc. pass us by at 'shinkansen' speed. I think I'm going to be sick......
gr8t piece. 700T series built by Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Wonder how much does it cost Taiwan 2 have a HSR system like this 1? would luv 2 c my country hav 1 of these:(!!
The 1 Hour PBS TV Program "NOVA", highlighted that VERY plan to bring Bullet Trains to California:
"Tracking The Supertrains
While America's passenger-train service deteriorates, trains in Japan and Europe are speeding ahead at over 150 miles per hour. NOVA reports that the super-fast trains are finally coming to America.
Original broadcast date: 12/14/82

Yeah, but back to trains. We do have high speed trains in Britain. Most of our mainline services are 110 - 125 mph.We also now have the 190 mph Eurostar thing.
we can't develop high speed trains because our tracks are the oldest and subsequently most worn tracks in the world, and they wouldn't be able to take high speed trains. would cost a phenomenal amount of money to re-lay all the tracks in britain and because we only have our own taxes to pay for things now, rather than an empire to supplement it, we can't do anything.
Yes maybe but the uk still the greenest place on the planet with the rolling hills of lush in england and the big mountains to the north in scotland and mind you it is much safer that the USA and we invented the ENGLISH LANGUAGE so think what you are saying
It is not economically viable. Unlike in Continental Europe (like Germany and France) where the population is more spread out, a majority of the people in the United Kingdom are in and around southern and central England.
I am japanese. Thank you taiwan. This Shinkansen is equal to M9 earthquake.

Congratulations, Taiwan.
It is only Japan and Taiwan that can operate a bullet train safely in an Asia.
