  • It looked like antony martin was fully extending his hips on all his lifts. Surely all the low hips/high back setup can achieve is reduce the length of the pull in which the lifter would be able to add more momentum?

  • Research...plenty...RA Roman, Medvayev (sp?)...proof in the real world..how about every country in the world kicks the United States in Weightlifting because our technique focus is still triple extension...its not about pulling the bar as high as we can...

  • Then refer back to your original copies.

Essential components of weightlifting technique part 2 p 16 says, " Zakharevitch....while interacting with the barbell with his shoulders and arms allowed him to lift a record weight to the LOWEST possible height which is the essence of technical efficiency." Also on page 13-14. "It is necessary for the lifter to prepare to switch directions before the knee, hip, and ankles have ceased straightening at the end of the pull." so don't triple extend.

  • If you look at the videos, ALL of them shrug at the top of the lift. As for the lack of complete extension, in my opinion this is due to the weights being lifted, though there always appears to be extension. A lifter should always try to bring the bar as high as they can, but there is an optimal range (i.e. the lowest point) in which a lift will be successful.

  • @kpainter93 Very wrong. Robert Roman, alexey medvedev and other famed Russian coaches teach the value of limited bar drop. which means you do not pull the bar as high as possible. YOu know who else says that? Zygmunt Smalcerz our new weightlifting coach at the olympic training center. he has produced numerous world and oylympic champions.

  • uh no, it implies that triple extension only happens when the feet shift to recieve the bar not to apply force. the shoulders are used to shrug under the bar not to raise it further.

  • Don (and I) learned from Shin-Ho Kang former head coach of S. Korea. He has developed several world and olympic champions and studied extensively in Russia and Bulgaria and has coached most notably with David Rigert and Yanko Rusev. This is his system and it has produced many champions. So who are you to disagree? who have you produced? Don has coached some of the best lifters this country has got including Cheryl Haworth. This is how the rest of the world pulls. Canada beats us without drugs.

  • Regardless, technique is not the major factor, hasnt anyone seen Kendrick Farris jerk? Because hes highly successful, should we teach that to everyone? Technique is highly debatable and variable, but the question is how strong is too strong? In America, its rare for any coach to see an athlete through their entire career, so no 1 coach actually produces an athlete, they contribute to their development, mostly.

  • Technique is the major factor why the U.S. is so bad. How do you explain Canada being ahead of us? they don't have a third of our budget can't afford drugs yet Christine Girard and JEan LAssen spank our women because they pull differently. There are numerous third world countries ahead of us. Take away drugs and the lifters with better technique will win.

  • Close but no cigar. I've lifted in Worcester, though.

  • i thought he was from Rhode Island

  • I am from Rhode Island. And I guess ten years in the South hasn't taken my accent away completly. Another tip is that I always ask to get paid (although this talk was a freebie for a friend) with Dunkin Donuts.

  • Great series! I didn't know Don McCauley was from Worcester, Mass. til I heard the accent - good to see some expats from the Boston area are doing some solid coaching!
