Very good equipment tour David, the only thing that is left to ask for me is Why wouldn't you need 4 stands rather than 2 since you have 4 flashes, or are the other 2 flashes replacements in case the first 2 brake?
David, thanks again for sharing what you use and how you use it. I have learned a lot from you and it has helped to inform my technique of flash photography. One client called me the lighting genius. I owe that to you, Joe McNally, and Dave Hobby (the strobist).
Just a question for you. With the Pocket Wizard radio triggers do you need a cable to connect them to the Nikon flashguns or not? Also how do you then mount the radio trigger and flash gun to the tripod?
David, I love your style of instruction. If you ever come to Arizona for a workshop, I will be there with about 10 of my photo buddies. I'm emailing links to you blog to them all now.
I really appreciate these videos, just wanted to let you know that. I'm a Canon shooter but your logic caters to everyone, and I am going to make use of your advice for lighting. Thanks!
I stumbled across your video during lunch at work. I am a serious amateur who is constantly looking for ways to better understand my equipment and how to use it. In watching two of your videos I learned more than I have in many months of trial and error.
Please keep up the great work. I recognize that you being a pro are going to have better equipment and such but I also am able to translate many of you concepts to my scale of equipment.
did your SU800 come with your sb-800 for a little extra or did you buy it seperatly, if it didnt why did you buy it if the pocket wiz will do fine? is it for the simple acessibility to change the setting from your flash... is it a good idea to buy one if im getting an sb800 and want wireless???
You can go wireless with the SB-800 by using the pop-up flash of your camera (if it has one, of course), in commander mode. You remain with full TTL control this way, you can even fire multiple flash units.
I'm not a nikoner anymore, but I'm pretty sure there are only select models that provide Commander functions.
Also, pocket wizards (and now more so, radio poppers) have huge and obvious advantages over IR systems, like no line of sight required and a range of up to 1600 feet in BROAD DAYLIGHT.
What kind/brand of bag is that? And please tell me more about the gobo foil. I am interested.

I often use clamps to hold strobes in place. Strobes do not always need to be on a stand.

Could you tell me which Lightware bag you use? I use the same lightstands as you and have been trying to find a bag large enough to fit them.

Hi,
Your "small" lighting kit seems huge to me! 4 SB-800 for a small assignment? I really wonder what you bring for the big ones!
No critic - I'm just surprised!
