I thought something was off at first (having not yet noticed that this wasn't the original until I read the description), but when it hit the transplanted part, it sounds great.
Awesome video, love the song, but I'm confused here... The music for a genesis game came from a ds game? That's what it sounds like when you say "from Portrait of Ruin to Bloodlines." It's confusing the hell out of me, anyone care to explain?
@Wuzzup222 The song is originally from Bloodlines, but the DS version added a section to the song. This is the video poster's version of what it would be like if that added section was in the Bloodlines version, too.
So do I...but I still have the original cartridge for my Genesis, which also still works. Classics never die, bud. Besides, for all the gamers who've gotten used to the current-gen games, retro stuff like this IS news.
I don't care what they come out with next for ANY system...nothing will ever beat old school 8-bit or 16-bit.
@NeverMind0133 I agree 100% The 16-bit era was gamings finest hour IMO. My memories of playing the SNES and Genesis as a kid are extremely precious to me and I still spend my of time playing 16-bit and 8-bit classics on Virtual Console. That's not to say all of the newer stuff is crap, but most it just doesn't do much for me.
This game DID kick mucho ass, but I liked Symphony of the Night best, personally. I don't think this game got enough recognition or that many people even played it, since most Castlevania games are on Nintendo...
Shame that eric died this f***ing early. His theme (IBI) rocks!!! Ah well this epic. I'm never tired of hearing this over 10 times a day NON-STOP. Its cool, so is Eric
The Sega Genesis has got a completly underrated sound chip just because the voices in street fighter sounded really bad compared to the arcade or super nintendo.
No, it actually was inferior to the SNES. It was using FM Synthesis as opposed to the hardware in Sony's chips. If they could do good things with it, then stuff like this happened.
Yeah i know, technically the SPC700 of the super nintendo is farly superior to the genesis and i absolutly love the sound it produce because the SNES was the console of my childhood.
What i was trying to say in my last message was that too many people directly says that the sound of the Genesis sucks just because the voices in sf2 sounds horrible. It's technically inferior to SNES but that doesn't mean you can't make anything better with FM.
Actually the super nintendo could have made the voice on SF2 sound perfect, the only obstacle was the cartridge size which was 2 MegaBytes so they had to compress the voices, that's the reason why the voices on SNES sf2 sound so muffled.
I agree with you the Genesis has a metallic and harsh sound which is not very good to reproduce some type of music like orchestral music. However, some games like Thunder Force 4 is the perfect example of how you can make FM sound awesome.
If you wanted an arcady sound, then you would go for the Genesis, but as a result of the sound chip, then it was almost impossible to make a good RPG with it, unless your name was Phantasy Star.
I think the problem with the Genesis sound chip is that it had a little too much of the same thing. With the exception of the PSG chip and the channel 6's DAC mode, it only relied on frequency modulation. It didn't even let you select between a square or a triangle or a sawtooth wave to be frequency modulated, you were stuck with just sine waves and a whole lot of them.
If it only let you choose between waveforms and let you choose other alternative kinds of modulation such as amplitude modulation and pulse width modulation, developers could've had an easier time finding new creative sounding tones.
BTW, I'm currently working on creating my own synth chip. It will have 3 FM PWM/square channels, 1 noise channel, and 4 PCM channels, all channels can apply reverberation. I'm getting my xgamestation soon, and I might be able to create my chip with it. I'll post it here if I get done.
I think the only three FM synthesizers that allowed use of other types of waveforms (including Square Wave) were the TX-81Z (rackmount 8-voice external), YM-3812 (OPL2, only had four waveforms and two operators), and the YMF-262 (OPL3, 4-op, 20-channel/voice, and had the TX-81Z's eight waveforms, also OPL2 and OPL3 could do Additive and FM synthesis).
Shame that the truly-powerful synths like the OPL2 and OPL3 rarely got full utilization.
i heard the meain charater in bloodlines isnt even a belmont but he has vampirekiller. that whip is only passed down between genrations of the belmont family how did he get it?
All this time I thought they'd had a girl and ended up losing their family name. Where'd you get the info? The game? ( Asking because I haven't played anything after Aria of Sorrow. )
Not bad, but the oringinal is much better. Much more haunting for some reason. This is the music for the first half of the 4th level "Munitions factory, Germany". This game got such little credit for how amazing it was.
Pretty cool, did you make this in the TFM or MVS trackers? I think you could make it even better by lowering the bass slightly and experimenting a bit with that instrument at 2:12 which sounded a bit harsh to me.
it's true what was said earlier bout the sound system on Genesis/MegaDrive. another absolutely stunning soundtrack of the system is w/out a doubt "lightning force(thunderforce4), especially the bosses. if yer lucky 'nuff to hear those...!
The Genesis never had bad sound quality. Primitive, yes, but by that perspective, everything before the Xbox/Ps2/GC age had horrible sound quality because they couldn't have the quality that we have nowadays.
The Genesis just had limitations, and if it were not for these limitations, we wouldn't have memorable songs such as this one, Green Hill in Sonic 1, Flying Battery in Sonic 3K, and so on and so on..
Seriously, Even though the Megadrive had fucking bad sound quality, this version of Iron Blue Intention always catch me up more than the DS PoR version.
Yeah. The only truly great music I heard on the Genesis was the MUSHA soundtrack, and everythying done by Yuzo Koshiro. But wait, who could forget the Skitchin' soundtrack. The actual game fucking sucked, though

It's too bad that both John Morris and Eric Lecarde both end up dying...
John Morris being killed by the whip since he wasn't a full blood Belmont,
and Eric Lecarde was later killed by Brauner...how tragic, huh?

Not even the Super Nintendo could make the voices of SF2 sound good, and that could also just be a result of faulty programming.
However, you do have to admit that the Genesis did sound very metallic and harsh compared to the SNES.
