shakespeare makes alot more sense if you understand sir henry neville really wrote those works. he was talking about his wife and it fits her and their life, it doesn't fit shakespeare who doesn't look like he could have written that poem !
well "poetry of that age was often not autobiographical" is a crackpot theory. i don't think you know anything about literature at all, let alone being able to judge the merits of wether sir henry neville wrote what is ascribed to shakespeare!
Let me formulate more precisely. Poems should not be taken as descriptions of the authors life. If you insist on the point, I will admit that all literature is in some sense autobiographical -- as is all art -- but events, scenes, and characters are not automatically autobiographical in the naive sense. It does not matter much to me who the author of Shakespeare is, but I like to see real evidence before I believe a conspiracy theory.
@gr0mithtimon it took me about a week of full time research on sir henry neville to be convinced that he is the real author of shakeapears plays, that's what it takes !
do a search on google on sir henry neville and brenda james as she is the discoverer of this astounding new development!
Right. But I do not feel like reading a book co-authored by a man who thinks the theory of evolution is false, and thinks his training in the unrelated field of history exempts him from the quite general prohibition against offering fantastically stupid and long discredited arguments in favor of this position(I am referring to The Theory of Evolution: Just a Theory? by Dr. Rubinstein). Perhaps you can reproduce some of the arguments that convinced you during your full week of research.
@gr0mithtimon the fundamental problem with shakespeare writing shakespeare is humans just don't have the level of imagination for what he supposedly wrote given his life experience, but sir henry neville didn't have to invent too much, it was his life , family history and travelling experience
My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun; Coral is far more red than her lips' red; If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun; If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head. I have seen roses damasked, red and white, But no such roses see I in her cheeks; And in some perfumes is there more delight Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks. I love to hear her speak, yet well I know That music hath a far more pleasing sound; I grant I never saw a goddess go
woah my names colten and you know the movie triple x well thats what i call myself other than KamakazC C is mt first enitial and triple x is good movie so i had no clue that i was such a great sonnet!
Only an ass would say Shakespeare is over-rated. Overly idealized, a la "Bardolatry", YES YES YES, Kindly read up on the real Shake-speare, Edward de Vere, the 17th Earl of Oxford, and you might reverse your opinion, he's fairly rated, and was kind of an ass at times, the kind of person you'd love to share a drink with, but not a house. Thanks for the reading, cheers from the colonies
This is my favorite Shakespearean sonnet as well!
I somewhat agree with your view that Shakespeare is overrated. I definitely agree that while "Shall I Compare Thee" is considered the best, but nothing gets me like sonnet 130. =)
I think you are as drunk as a lord, should I imagine to be a floatin bubble??? But what have you smoked? Anyway I agree with you "My mistress' eyes" is one of my most favourite sonet too
I'm really speechless, you were very good! I'm an Italina student and I've always loved this sonet. Now I can listen to you and improve my pronunciation... Well thank you very much!
Speechless? Wow... Gosh, making me blush. :D Glad you enjoyed it! Yes, and feel free to repeatedly listen to my smooth, vevetty, luxurious voice, again and again, tasting the bubbles as they rise; now imagine you are a bubble yourself, floating, floating, yes, you are getting very sleepy, very very sleepy, you will now hand me your wallet, car keys, and any small valuables you may have on your person, yes....
the sun is more warmer than the cheeks of my dead harlot, the moon pale as her breast is now, unmoving and lifeless ,a stillness that deafens my very soul, let her lie though in the frosty ground. tainted bitch that i put my trust in,oh how foolish we men can be to fall for harlots.
Very well read. May I post this video to a group called ThePoetryCorner? And please accept this invitation to do more readings there. Also welcome are your own poetry, or even doggerel if you are inclined to write such.
i heard a quote by shakespeare a little while ago, and i was dumbstruck by its beauty... so i used it on my front page of my channel... just a bit of it, short and sweet.
As I say, some go OTT in favour of Shakeyboy, and some go OTT belittling him. In reality, he is overrated, but he is great, too. He seems to polarise people (mainly, I guess, cos he is now an "institution figure"). :)
This is one of his most pupular and well known (I thought anyway...) I know it´s one of my favourites, I really am glad someone posted it. It is wonderful.
Thankyou for uploading this. Its one of the few pieces I remember from school and understood lol. I've felt like that too about past loves, its all about inner beauty dont you think?

"Some people say that shakespeare is an arse.... They're right"
Rofl. That had me in stitches.
I love this sonnet. Is a favourite.
And the narrators voice is nice... V.soothing.
Having said that though, I must say, Lauren Cooper's (Catherine Tate) version is pretty rockin' ...

If Shakespeare is over-rated, English literature is dead.
