I have a 2008 2.4l.....I tried the Optima Yellow top battery fix. It helps A LITTLE, but is not a complete cure, escpecially with the A/C running. I tried HID's, but had issues with them..not to mention the light pattern sucks in a reflector housing. I am going to check back on this post for hopefully a recall, lawsuit, fix.
Honda will not fix the car because there is no fix. It was built into the car on purpose to act work this way. Even though the CRV has the exact drivetrain it does not do it. You are past the lemon law rules and a recall is out of the question. A lawsuit is iffy because honda finally figured out a defense against the issue. In other words instead of trying to appease the customer they lawyered up. By the way the 6 cylinder accords don't do it ..only the 4 cylinder accords
@IAMGOD712007 The defense worked out by honda was that the car met all federal guidlines for lighting and it does. My complaint was a safety issue that people in front would think you were flashing your lights at them and people in the rear thought you were brake checking them. The state examined the car in broad daylight and agreed with me that's how noticeable it was. I even offered to honda to take a 6 cylinder and pay the difference in the minus mileage. Of course they said NO.
Assuming this was the 2.4L, this is due to the smaller than average battery honda puts in the car from the factory. Upgrade the battery to the V6 accord 24F size and it will have enough extra capacity to eliminate this
@Viper989 Its not a matter of capacity its a matter of voltage which all batteries have the same amount of. I cant upgrade the battery because honda was forced to buy it back three years ago. Remember honda is not your friend!
well lilrennagade..you have no idea what you are talking about. As mentioned in the other posts the car did this at all speeds. After owning 31 cars so far I think I know what I am talking about as did the arbitration board consisting of one judge, two lawyers, and an aeronautical electrical engineer. Honda lost their case on at least three occasions that I personally know of based on headlights and headlights only. Honda was also lost the class action suit on these vehicles about thebrakes
Thats definitely normal. Almost every car does that when the a/c compressor engages. My Chevy truck and Acura TL both do it. My neighbors 2000 Accord and 2010 Accord both do it. When the compressor clutch engages it takes a lot of power from the engine suddenly and that's why the lights dim slightly but the car senses the drop in power and adjusts its engine speed. You didn't have a lemon but high five for wasting time seeing as how almost every car does it whether its noticeable or not.
The car was bought back by honda under the lemon law rules based solely on the headlight flickering problem. It took me 17 months of fighting with them but in the end I prevailed. They wrote me a check for 25750 back in february of 2009. They refused to work with me in a fair settlement so I took them to arbitration and won. Honda should be ashamed of the way they treated a 28 year customer.
@PeterGriffin4200 the car is long gone....honda bought it back for 25750...bought a 2006 lexus pre certified es 330...fantastic car compared to the EXL honda with a 5 year bumper to bumper warranty up to 100000 miles. Honda motor company is not your friend. I had the car and fought honda for 17 months and 15000 miles. Oh by the way that was my fifth honda car and I have had three honda motorcycles.
@honeygge2 I drove a friend's 2009 Honda Accord LX-P with 48K miles and to be honest with you my 1994 Toyota Camry V6 with over 300K miles(all original no major issues) is a whole lot quieter and smoother to drive then that new Accord and on top of that the 2009 Accord had no automatic on/off lights and my 17 year old Camry has it. Toyota is light years ahead of Honda in terms of quality and comfort.
@PeterGriffin4200 You arte absolutely correct. Honda quality and engineering of their cars has sunk lower and lower. The best car I ever had from them was a 99 accord ex. The new ones are not up to honda quality standards. I forsee Kia and Hyindai overtaking them in sales in about 5 years.
@MrDavidvsGoliath Well I don't own a Honda but i drove a friends 2009 Honda Accord that I didn't like but my advise to you is that get rid of your Honda and buy a Toyota. My 1994 Toyota Camry has 305K miles with no major issues at all; this Camry is still my primary driving car.
That was the least of my problems with this car. I had the 08 Accord and I put so many brakes on it they knew me by name at the Honda dealership not to mention the car starting when it was cold and sounding like the engine is coming through the hood or the fact that the cheap insides had the carpet coming loose from the side. I hated this car. I now own a 11 Altima and it is so much quieter and has a much smoother ride. I love it!
Guard 1346 FYI..the car did it at all speeds. I dont have to defend myself because a three member arbitration board decided in my favor. Honda to this day has no fix for it and never will. It would still be news except the brake problem on the accord has taken over with the class action suit against honda.
Its a voltage drop problem and no battery or alternator will help. Its engineered into the car on purpose.
Yah so what's the big deal? First of all they are not " Flickering" they go dim a little bit because the a/c is on max, fan is on high, headlights are on and it's at an idle. It's not that much difference and if you were driving it would not do this. Put a new alternator and a battery in it. If Honda did not spend so much time on other things like a dipstick for the washer fluid (LMAO), how hard can we make it to change a headlight and how big can we make the key, mabye it would not do this.
What I don't understand is why the a/c recycles so often and so strongly; my 06 Altima which is the bare bones model is very subtle compared to my wife's Accord
We bought one. An EX-L NAV 5MT. And it does it too. Not so bad that we hate the car, but worse than our 04 EX-L that we traded for it, and it surely doesn't happen in my IS250. If this is something you won't be able to stand, you better not buy this car.
After 17 months Honda has bought back my car based solely on the headlights flickering.. I am the third person in a few months in the state of Georgia to have the cars repurchased based on headlights only.
I've never had a Honda that didn't do it. But then again, never had a Toyota that didn't do either. Not a big deal. I don't see how you can get a car bought back with something like that. Go figure. Good luck?
It only affects 2008 and 2009 HONDA ACCORD 4 CYLIDER cars..nothing else anywhere in the honda or acura line is affected. Honda still calls this "A normal Characteristic".
I had the same problem with a '93 Integra, but only when it was in idle. If it happens while driving, I would be as pissed as you and KP are/were.
My only complaint with my '08 is it has developed a rattling noise coming from the rear deck plastic hitting the back window, and it's driving me crazy. Very un-Honda like, and will be making a trip to the dealer soon or find a fix myself.
I tried to do this a long time ago but couldn't figure it out. Now that honda has rejected my repurchase deal I am going to arbitration in Georgia. As you probably know katana pilot did the same thing and won his case. I expect the same results from my case.
