No it's not. He sometimes uses a simple bassline, but this is often the duty of the bassist. Bass giants like Geezer Butler and John Paul Jones stapled their styles on this principle. I bet you wouldn't say the same thing about AC/DC's bassist, even though all he does is root notes - not criticising him, just saying. Go and see Hawkwind and listen to Dibs on 'Lord Of Light', and dont tell me that isn't complex and tight!

I said they stapled their styles on this. Perhaps JPJ was a poor example, but often he was very simple! 'Whole Lotta Love'? You wanna buy Hawkwind's new album (should be out in shops tommorow), and come back and tell me it's 'just very basic'. It's quite awesome indeed sir, and he's written some brilliant songs on there too! Dibs is far from basic, sir. He's increasingly adding his own little bits into older songs too, and it's great! As was Mr Davey, as is Mr Dibs!

Hmmm. Most people I've spoken too, from either camp agrees that Dibs is doing pretty well! But yes, it's down to opinion, and I'd love to see AD friends with Hawkwind again, but this may not happen! I think Dibs is a fantastic bassist and songwriter, and having been roadie for so many years, deserves his position. Far from terrible, and a really nice decent bloke! I'd like to stress that I'm a major fan of both AD and Dibs, I just disagree with the statement 'Dibs is shit'".

@Julian123123123 most people?? don't talk shite....all the gigs i've been to have been sold out, went to hawklords in frome, and there was about 150 people there, mostly on the guestlist by the look of all the laminates..get real julian...haven't seen hawklords in any magazines, or getting any awards, you can't even find them on torrent sites, and the recent vids on here, well, if you think that's better than the current Hawkwind line-up, you need yer hearing testing,,shambles at best

I don't get how ya can say he's shit? He really holds his own in Hawkwind. They're all good players. What would you do now if Alan all of a sudden rejoined Hawkwind? Still say they are all shit, or would it change because of him?

I'm a massive Alan Davey fan too, really, not just in Hawkwind too. Bedouin is fantastic. Man, Alan knows his stuff on bass, but, times change man, times change - especially in Hawkwind!

Mr Dibs isn't 'shit' at all. Alan left, and Dibs is a longstanding crew member. He's a decent player. I saw him in Dec 08, and he was pretty damn good. I saw him the other day and he was absolutely owning it! They are different bass players, but Dibs is taking care of things pretty damn well!
