  • Yet to hear a song by them that I did not like.

  • god damn, how did i forget about this project?!?!?!?! I saw these guys live a few years back, very incredible. I was like 16. Now I'm 19, and I feel like I can actually appreciate the slight shift in genres as opposed to Bright Eyes. This really is incredible.

  • actually it sounds a little like Ry Cooder

  • great song, great band, great album. thanks mystic valley band.

  • My oversized Bob Dylan poster above my head agrees with klkool1, Conor Oberst isn't the new Bob Dylan, Conor Oberst is the first, and only, Conor Oberst. It's like saying that Criss Angel is the new Evel Knievel.

  • @heyjude97 I get what you're doing with the analogy there, but it is a crime to compare Conor Oberst to/with Criss Angel, even in the vaguest way.

  • Great Song, Conor Oberst! The new Dylan

  • @TheREMhq

Conor Oberst isn't the new Bob Dylan, he's the first conor oberst.

  • @klkool1 Very true!

  • Much prefer Conor's version.

  • actaully its beautiful music. very talented

  • its two completely different songs

  • Exactly, its like comparing apples and pears.

  • some people are so lame haha

  • i'd like to hear the other band members' "eagle on pole"s. maybe it just means they will be on the next album(s) ...good song

  • love james boesel's one (this one) by far more

  • Why the fawk should you compare these songs? The only thing they have in common is the titel and the opening line. It's not even the same person who wrote it. It's not even another "version". It's an entirely different song. On an entirely different album. With an entirely different sound.

  • kanyechain is a dumb bitch

  • this is too smooth. the other version screams the passion and pain

  • i kinda miss the original version. the passion was so intense. this sounds awesome but its kinda laid back

  • great observation AND you said something ALMOST worth saying, if you love this band soo fucking much then you would know that this is a new song for the new record with the same name :]

  • no... i remember in the documentary conor says someone i forget who said today i saw an eagle on a pole, i think it was an eagle and he was like "hey thats a good idea for a song" so he wrote it...

  • You can't really compare the two versions of this song, they're just too different...

    They're both great though.

  • they are coming to summerfest on the 25th!

  • This is far catchier than the Conor version..

  • Conor and catchy do not go together. Catchy refers more to the melody and sound, when I get "caught" by Conor's work it is ALWAYS from the lyrics and the sincerity in his voice. The imperfections are good.

  • You're right it is catchier but that doesn't really make it better. I often find myself humming this out of nowhere but I do prefer the other version.

  • The first one was bad..

This one took me a couple listens and i started loving it.

    this album is great

and i'm also one of the biggest Bright Eyes fans ever, so don't go there

  • I love Conor's version of Eagle On A Pole. This version is definitely sub-par but still great.

  • theres nothing wrong with the first one. being critical of other peoples music does not make you any smarter or better at making it prick.

  • I completely agree

  • conor's version is the first one, this is another band member's version

  • when i got the cd and looked on the back and saw it said eagle on a pole i was like wait they made a 2nd song called this?

  • so he's gone from thinking he's bob dylan to thinking he's johnny cash?

  • If your'e talking about Conor Oberst, this isn't him singing.

  • bet

  • the old one is way better then this.

i also want a Bright eyes Return.

  • Agreed.

  • Shoot me, I miss Bright Eyes!

  • i love you jason boesel!

  • SO MUCH BETTER. This was the only song I didn't like on the last album...

It sounded like a leftover from his Bright Eyes days.

I like the new sound muchmuchmuch better.

  • Just fyi, he hasn't left Bright Eyes

  • hmm interesting.

he played this yesterday @ coachella.

  • One last thing, I drank 15 beers that night and I think I was more sober than everyone on stage but the keyboardist. The guitarist to conor's left was straight junked up, the rest looked drunk as hell, maybe more. At least conor is off the coke apparently. Anyway, cheers to anyone else who was there!

  • haha me too I had about half a litre of whiskey and a few beers and it was nothing...the guitarist you mention (Taylor) was introdcued by conor first saying say hello, its not his fault he dropped all that acid before the show...

    he was out of it...

    its good

  • when i saw them touring for the first album last fall conor was very coked out as was the rest of the band and the felice brothers(the opening band)

  • Saw them live the other night in Tempe. All the band members, besides Conor (and maybe one of the guitarists) sang on this song, rotating each verse. It was definitely different. The sound at the venue was mediocre so it was hard to make out the lyrics, I wasn't even sure it was this song. But yeah... live they preform it with all of them singing, minus Conor. Their encore also consisted at least 1-2 songs without Conor singing and other members of the band. Overall, great show.

  • i like it.

  • I agree with Aleexr, I've relistened to this song countless times & it's grown on me. I still can't say I like it as much as I like some of his other songs, but it's not terrible

  • conor didn't write it another band member did

  • wait a second. I have gone from thinking this was terrible to thinking it is insanely good. I can't stop singing it. All the Mystic Valley Band are talented as fuck, this was a great move by Conor. The gamble paid off... this album is just amazing.

  • This song was great live. The drummer is singing here.

  • actually relistening it's pretty good. Infact it is very good. It's just the fact that those opening lyrics you asccosiate with Conor's voice so it makes it weird at the start.

  • None of you guys have any idea what you're talking about.

  • i don't like this at all. Rest of the album is good though

  • I love Conor Oberst & all, but ... This song is kind of terrible.

  • Definitely different... Damn, I hope Conor is not doing a huge mistake with this solo project. Because well, it sounds like it...

  • its the drummer singer, the rest of the album is amazing, i like this tho

  • Well yeah I know it's not Conor singing lol.

Still, this album doesn't sound very good to me...

But I may change my mind !

  • LOL at this point in life Conor can play whatever the hell he wants.

  • Yeah well it shouldn't be that way
