@crashtestdummy87 AAD = automatic activation device. It will deploy your reserve below a predetermined altitude if you are above a certain vertical speed (40 mph often for students and often over 70-80 mph for experienced jumpers)
RSL = Reserve Static Line (i think) and its purpose is to mechanically pull your reserve in the event that you cut away your main. This is merely a secondary device and proper training teaches that you go ahead and pull your reserve line as well.
The pull was ok, plenty of room underneath. The judgment of the landing area was bad. I'd have aimed for the road instead and saved my jumpsuit from being soiled like a pig.

@captainhook666 - An AAD is the Automatic Activation Device that is supposed to deploy your chute if you haven't done so by a certain altitude, normally between 750 and 1000'. It is only required on tandem and students in the United States so not everyone uses them.

@viper19861986 Alti2 is huge, can snag handles easier than low profile altimeters, and is not really cheaper than a smaller alti if you look around. Sorry, but after 13 years of freeflying all around the country I have yet to see anyone wearing a student alti2, freefly, with any proficiency. Sure, there are maybe 1 or 2 out there doing it. Protec + Alti2 = newbie; Even though Protec is the safest helmet one can use, and the alti2 reads altitude just as good as any other altimeter.

@captainhook666 - An AAD is the Automatic Activation Device that is supposed to deploy your chute if you haven't done so by a certain altitude, normally between 750 and 1000'. It is only required on tandem and students in the United States so not everyone uses them.

As a skydiver, i wish they both now have an AAD !
In Canada we need to use AAD on Solo and A licence.
As a "C" instructor and Tandem master, i will always use an AAD.

You took the words right out of my mouth!! I am very glad that you had some altitude to land in that cleared area though - which had some tire tracks which appeared wet or muddy - thank God again for that. I tried to read your altimiter there when you looked at it...what did it say (right before you landed)? Probably around 250 ft maybe?? Just guessing by the distance. Was also why you checked altimeter this low!!?? Seriously.

Have you ever jumped with those military vets? Most of them are insane and hate the USPA. I jumped with an oldie and we had a low pull competition. That crazy fucker.
I highly doubt someone deciding to pull low has any impact on your life.

Not really freeflying...more like freeflailing. Someone with those poor freeflying skills should not be going out and trying at 3500. I mean, look at the guys altimeter, it's a freakin full size student alti2. They were pouring from the luck bucket, def not the experience bucket. I've gone out freeflying at 3500 myself, but with people who could actually freefly

@viper19861986 Alti2 is huge, can snag handles easier than low profile altimeters, and is not really cheaper than a smaller alti if you look around. Sorry, but after 13 years of freeflying all around the country I have yet to see anyone wearing a student alti2, freefly, with any proficiency. Sure, there are maybe 1 or 2 out there doing it. Protec + Alti2 = newbie; Even though Protec is the safest helmet one can use, and the alti2 reads altitude just as good as any other altimeter.
