Oh lord, I remember waiting for boats to come and it was such a rewarding experience to level up when it meant something. Nothing was more satisfying than memorizing beautiful zones and going through Kithicor forest without being scared half to death by 1 shot casting spells. Haha! Memories...
lets just say that EQ was the foot in the door to all MMORPG game... the game is totally different now days and will never be the same as it was for us old timers but it will always be the best MMORPG game ever played if you played through the classic days and really got into it... WoW, Vanguard etc. etc. wouldnt be what it is if not for EQ period.
@ANTvith True that. I been playing EQ Since Phase 3. Now I moved above playing to helping players out in game. You are right it does not have the same feel. Sony got what they wanted and kicked Brad to the curve so to speak. He went on to do Star Wars Online. I used to remember SOON(tm) and Gm-Fippy (Fippy rules) It was quite a thing to hang out in chat. Now no one chats and almost all of the PCs are mules/merchants. Ahh the days of wolf forming all in Oasis on Xegony. 100 wolves killing! Epic.
EQ, for the first few years, had a sense of scale yet to be duplicated in any mmorpg. I know, because I've played all of them.
EQ just had a special feeling. It was less the culmination of game mechanics and players, and more the culmination of the perfect place and time for such a game to be released. It was a truly living, breathing, and tangible game world. Anyone who truly got into EQ didn't just play it, they lived it.
Anyone remember The Realm?

LoN and Micro Transactions and SoL, GoD, and OOW ruined EQ IMO... besides the fact that SOE doesn't listen to the playerbase

Can't agree more. But WoW, Vanguard, etc, lack one thing that EQ created for it's players (When it was in it's prime of course) and that's emotion.

true, same feeling here, just hearing the EQ theme midi or the Qeynos music brings tears to my eyes, no other game has ever done that to me...

Not too often does a game with such bad graphics leave such good memories for people.
I miss that game so bad.

Eh for that time those graphics were wonderful

True. To think that was only 10 years ago.. imagine what games will be like in 20 years.. yikes.

Heh, at the rate we are going?
Pong with MASSIVE paddles and cartoony graphics.
Why does this sound like a game that is already out? :D

That's Brad McQuaid's paladin, and no it wasn't the epic. There are two swords that have fire on them.

Soulfire was the mini Pre-Kunark epic I believe...Soul something anyway. O_o Somethin' like that.

I saw a paladin with an Epic.. How can this be 1998 ? I believe Epics came out only with Kunark, no ?

there was a proto type epic called the fiery avenger. Consider it an Epic .5 (instead of 1.0)
