Well... Assuming their getting shouted at and constantly stressed, I would say that their sympathetic systems are in overdrive, and thus, parasympathetic innervation of gut movement and sphincter relaxation is not active. Having said that, the instructors probably wouldn't let you -- then again, you could always pissed them off by shitting in their pool =P
So how do these instructors become instructors? Do they pass the Pararescue Training Course then opt to become an instructor versus getting out and experiencing what they have trained to do?
@DEUHDCEwh usually in most cases they have to serve for several years and then they get that option, where as SERE Instructors HAVE to Instruct for 2 years after graduating before they can actually get out and do the job they trained for...
At 6:58 that guy is not an Airmen! He is an Army Lieutenant wearing the old camouflage uniform! What's an "Army" Lt. doing at an Air Force Pararescue course?
Pararescuers are the most in demand job in the Air Force, and they turn down people who can put through all that? Tell me when that is supposed to make sense.
no matter how much cardio i train up, i have a really hard time holding breath under water, any suggestions? Should i just try not holding so much oxygen?
What most people don't understand about selection courses is that they are all about your team and the small victories that you guys have together. Shit like yelling "Marine Corp" is just a way of separating your team from the instructors through humor. A team in selection is not a team until they learn how to slack as a team. What I mean is when a team learns how to get stuff over on the instructors, that is when they start pulling each other through and those are the dudes to operate with.
@soccerdude41993 Same here, I've been training my ass off, and will continue to do so for the next year, then it's basic, then PAST, then INDOC. I want this more than the air in my lungs. I want to be a PJ, I NEED to be a PJ. HOOYAH!
@MrJmind Schools tend to use older equipment like helmets, weapons, etc when possible. I had a Vietnam-era M16 (not M16A1, but original M16 with Safe, Semi, Auto) issued to me at one point in AIT.
@CardShark1015 I didn't notice much of a weight difference between the M16 and and the A2 or later models. Now, the M4? Yes, much lighter, but that's because it's a carbine and not a full-sized assault rifle.
@CardShark1015 Nope, I was not a PJ. But I was just saying that old-issue items turn up in military schools. And I didn't personally feel any difference between the 60s-era M16 I was issued at one point and the M16A2 or M4 I used later.
@CardShark1015 Correction...sorry, I'm tired. Yeah, like I said before, the M4 felt lighter, but it's a smaller weapon. I couldn't tell the difference between the M16 and A2, though, other than the 16 having "Auto" instead of "Burst" and the handguards being a different style. There seems to be more metal to the original 16, though, so it could be a few pounds heavier...I didn't really notice.
@fmcc0904 can i ask how did you know that is was from vietnam? I went to basic in 1989 and I had the same type weapon. vietnam era M-16's did not have a flash surpressor, towards the end of the war they did, I also had a weapon that had safe semi and auto also.
@IamMaiC That handguards, lack of flash suppressor, and overall condition of the weapon made it pretty obvious. That and the armorer and his records showed the age of the weapon. It was first issued in 1971.
@1123elemental they only do it to feel good about themsleves on youtube lmao, they can say this looks easy all they want, but we all fucking know this shit is hell
just like anything in the media... don't judge the hardness because of what you see in tv or movie. this is only the "show" version, people wouldn't know how hard exactly this is until you go through it... same with the Seals, same with Combat Control, and the same with any spec ops out there... there's a reason why there's high percentage of drop outs and only very low pass rate. Just appreciate these airmen for what they do, because of them, alot of people are alive today.
@strent1122 Except for the fact that this is only the first nine weeks of PJ training, of which there are two years. Wikipediaing these guys is probably the least you could do; they're fucking rad.
Also there are around three thousand active Navy SEALs. There are only three hundred Pararescuerers.
@PGarcia410 no, i am not a SEAL. But two of my friends are, one lost a leg in Afghanistan. Im Canadian, and a part of CSOR, (Canadian Special Operations Regiment). its a special forces battalion under the command of CANSOFCOM. the best comparison for you Americans in the 75th Ranger Regiment.
@strent1122 god i hate ignorant canadians who think they are the most elite top shit. you cant do this, marine scout sniper, marine recon, green berets, or navy seals. please upload a video of you proving me wrong and doin some of this training.
@PGarcia410 Don't mind him. He fails to realize that even your base-level SOF isn't trained on as many varying specialties as just one PJ. As with any installment of this program, the episode was a tiny snippet of the entire training required by whichever unit was featured. While, yes, any specialized unit can theoretically be called in to perform SAR ops, it is the AF Pararescueman's primary function. And it happens to be one of the most difficult training regimens period.
@strent1122 PJ's literally go through the same difficulty of training as SEALS do, only they also go through a 14 week academic medical course where they become qualified as Emergency Medical Technicians, making their course technically harder than SEALs.
I have the pleasure of working with these fellas. Being a CSAR Loadmaster on the HC-130P I get to kick their asses out of a perfectly good airplane. They're a real trip, trust me.

@TheM1Master Well, PJs can technically say that if they wish...Navy SAR ("Frog Men") are typically slower, as they have to be deployed from a helo launched from a carrier, and the extraction site may be out of range for such an op.
