  • The album title and band name have an interesting similarity to the Ziggy album. Rise and fall, rats and spiders. I never came across this before.

  • You sure whacked him with that reply Ched - there are people out there who don't reallise how far back you go bud!

    Rock On !

  • How do I get this removed? This track has nothing to do with Mick Ronson and insults his guitar playing. It was recorded in 1964, 2 years before Mick joined the Rats. Ben Marshall and I made this up in the recording studio because we needed a B side for Spoonful. The guitar playing is by ME, Frank Ince.

  • @jalrea54 Subscribe to the guy's page and then write him a note on his own line, it goes to him rather than the system, more like an e-mail....good work incidentally!

  • Ronno's got sick skills, I have this on the compilation "The Rise and Fall of Bernie Gripplestone and the Rats from Hull."

  • thanks ronson

  • lordched, is right. Mick did not play on the early Rats singles. So he is nowhere on this track. Still, it's nice to see The Rats on YT.

  • That is right Mick did not play on the Rats early singles Spoonful and Got My Eyes On You Baby, these were recorded with original guitarist Frank Ince. Mick was not in the band at that time. However the song featured here is from a CD which contains several old Rats songs which Mick does play on.

  • OKAY man!

  • Hey, I went to Wyvern School (albeit about 20 years AFTER Ronno!) and before I emigrated to Australia, I ran several pubs in Hull, and had the pleasure of Ched Cheeseman's various bands playing in them.

Ched, you are a legend...... and as a student of Ronno's past, I can confirm that he did not play on this track.

All of that aside.... a great track, and a much underrated band from a much underrated city!

  • youtube won't allow a web address in here so search myspace hullrats

  • Don't worry Ched, i'm on it mate !!!!

  • My brother Joe Liddle told me he use to be a roadie for The Rats in the 60's, is he bullshitting me. Thanks.

  • I don't remember his name, ask him who was in the band at the time and which part of the 60,s early, mid or late and I will tell you if he is telling you porky pies or not.

  • Mick Ronson does not play on this track it was recorded several years befor he joined The Rats

  • Really....How do you know that dude ? He's credited on the album cover and he's pictured on the inner sleeve playing with the band. But that picture shows them with long hair which would be the later 60's....so i reckon you might be right.

  • I know because I was a member of the Rats, I recommend you search myspace for The Rats

  • FUUUCCCKKK WHAAAAT ?!! (on my knees) That's gotta be the coolest reply i've ever had man !

What years were you in the band and what instrument did you play. The Rats are bloody wicked mate...i'm going to search alright, Cheers !

  • Ha ha! great response from you I had a little chuckle. Although I am normally a guitarist I played bass at that time 1968 - 1969.

  • I have posted a vidio response of a band called the Rats , is it the same as you ??? I know there was more than one band around at the time useing that name and recording . Many thanks Tom

  • Hi Tom,

No, Parchman Farm was recorded by a band from Lancashire who were also called The Rats, that is until a TV show of the time called Thank Your Lucky Stars held a popularity contest between the two sets of Rats (a bit like todays X factor I suppose) with the band voted most popular would get to keep the name. The Lancashire Rats lost the vote while the Hull Rats continued with the name until Mick Ronson left in 1970

  • Thank you so much for the reply as i was bound to get asked at some stage . Also it was unkown if it was the same band as yours as i said

    Tom

  • just looking at at the photograph, you can tell its late 60s not early 60s!

  • God bless mick ronson, great guitarist great showman. Nice to see this and see where it all started, thanks for posting!

  • Woah.....i've just subcribed to you mate, you're a cool dude and dig good music. Your guitar playing is better than mine...but i can live with that !!!!
