the 3.5 I-5 straight from the factory will shut off at 98!! the only way it can go 100 plus is if you've installed a power programmer

why would they keep the 4.3L? it got shitty gas mileage and it had less power than the I5. the 4.3 was good while it lasted

The S10 with a 4.3L was rated at 195hp and 250lb-ft

The Colorado with a 3.7L 5 cylinder offers 242hp and 242lb-ft.

So the 5 cylinder provides a little less torque but has more horsepower.

I was always under the impression that the 4.3 was a bit of a monster, seen alot of tough ones in my day. This kinda depresses me, being as the Ranger is now the most out of date vehical in america now that the S-10 is gone. Dont matter, Rangers still hold the title for longest lasting!

yea rangers are ok. Im more of a chevy fan myself though. I here ya though they need to update the ranger BAD!! But think of it this way VW has been putting 5 cylinders in cars for years so its not that uncommon. Plus in my opinion the colorados sound awesome.

My 3.0 V6 is ludicrisly out of date, but its so flippin bullet proof! plenty of torque for its size and age, and is pretty straight foward to service. Sounds great with my exhaust too!

@xWOODYHAYESx the 4.3 are good motors depending if its a vin marker of "z" "y" or "w", the w coded 4.3 is in the later yr astros, like my moms 97 astro van, and that van is not slow, ive raced it off the light against ss camaros and firebird T/A. theres 4 distictive versions of the 4.3 which they still use in the base model silverados up to 2012 model year

I've had it up to 110....runs good at that speed and still has more guts left.....probably does 125 at least, all depending on where the speed shutoff is. It gets about 17 city, 21 highway, and has enough power to have a little fun and smoke some tire.

It may sound like a Viper because a Viper is a V-10, so the inline 5 could be called half a viper, in cylinders of course.
