  • This are the leaders who stands to be remembered as they had both lead the country and equally believing in something and never pulled any punches towards that, if a leader cannot have anything in writting, then his/ her leadership is fruitless and will soon be forgtten, or be speculated about, ask King Moshweshwe, and others before and durring his time, TM(Thabo Mbheki) you are the ANC's finnest

" A loving heart is the beginning of all knowledge." Thomas Carlyle

  • Thank you bro!!! may god make more Eritreans like you, smart and quick enough to deferential the reality from the lies.. I know you understand what I am trying to say.

  • my sisther wint Africa

  • I agree

My ancestors told me that the rivers and the lakes and the mountains and stones and trees and animals and all of nature are sacred!

    They were right

look at what destroying the environment has done to the world.

When Africa becomes the center of the world again and the maps are turned right side up again then let us remember the science of our ancestors.

  • nice speech, it's just such a pity that he was such an ineffective leader. BEE means 'jobs for the boys (and girls)' it damages the economy and benefits a very small group of people from 'the struggle, he has blood on his hands fro all the millions of South Africans dead from Aids, he did nothing to tackle crime, he is racially obsessed and no one did more to re-racialise SA politics. His intellectual aloofness left me cold.

  • I AM SOMALI ! but as most I AM AN AFRICAN first !!

    beautiful !!!!!

  • a visionary.

It was a sad day for SA when he was forces by a group of less 100 people to resign

  • A sad day?...in what respect?

  • He was voted to the Presidency by millions of people. But only the few forced him to resign. >100 ANC NEC Members

  • No.. it is as a result of the implications of the court ruling and rightly so he was recalled

and he was not voted for..the ANC was

  • My Good friend, A normal person does not vote for a party that is led by a person you dont think he'll make a good president. Please dont talk of the court ruling that was based on nothing.

  • sorry..but if that is your opinion then you are very ignorant and trust me when i tell that Mr Mbeki is not the man you think he is

  • Ayyyyysh i wanna go home lol, i like this

  • Bump this fool. Some one decorated the begining of his speech with beatiful things. Who ever did that should have let the video play a little longer then you'll had the crap he said later. crap such as "there are no problems in Zimbabwe" F'N fool.

  • what have Zimbabweans done for their country? still vote for Mugabe? south africans had to fight for their freedom and many people died. i don't understand why should some people blame other presidents for their problems. Zims should stand together and fight the good fight!

  • Let me school you. Zimbabweans also fought for their freedom and got it in 1980. Many died too. Mugabe has since taken away that freedom killing many. I blame Mbeki for taking Mugabes side.

  • well we all know they were decolonised. i'm talking about their freedom now.

  • Mbeki wrote a letter to Mugabe criticizing him and warning him of his implications. Mugabe is an old crank who needs to resign. His time is up. I understand African presidents who don't want the Europeans and Americans telling them what to do (I am an American.) so if he did refuse to constantly berate Mugabe. let him make his own decision. Once people stop interfering with Africa's problems, that includes China raping the country too, Africa will get better.

  • Wonderful i saw this video at google earth

  • me too. hail the queen(random)

  • I am an african, although i am from european desent, the colour of my skin and where my mother and father were born does not make me any less african! i am proud of what my country has achieved and am proud to be apart of this inspirational nation! we must never forget the past, and we should never dwell on it! The past is history, the future is a mystery, but today is a gift, thats why it is called the present! I look forward to 2010, and so should all africans! This is our time to shine!!!

  • Amen. Thank you

  • @THEROOKIE77 you are a true African and no one can dare challage that. Am proud to call you my brother/ sister

  • @THEROOKIE77 true dat brother love from sierra leone

  • @THEROOKIE77 Yeah your time to shine went well...You do know that Africa is a continent right?

  • I do, maybe i should have been a little more clear and said I was South African. I thought that was implied.

  • i does feel good to be an african... nkosi sikelele africa

  • I am an African too living in america

  • I love this video... Even though I'm like only 3rd generation African, it feels Awesome to be African. I hope things turn out great for our country and continent and world. I know we have problems but it wont be bad forever... I AM AN AFRICAN

  • I feel and will always feel great to be an African...

Wat a beautiful sleeping Giant that when awaken, it shall shake every single corner of this World..

    I AM AN AFRICAN...

  • I feel good to be an African too...

  • This is just great,...

    God bless Africa forever..

  • Shame. Sorry Thabo.

  • Glad you left Grubnub - One less tosser here to deal with. If you're not part of the solution, you're definatly part of the problem.

  • gnubnub well said , the grim reaper is going to come to SA like never before as the fighting will continue to grow within the ranks of the ANC. The future is scary for SA

  • Thabo Mbeki officially resigned today as President of South Africa. In doing so he showed dignity and honour - regardless of whether you agree with the way he has rules or not - but he has shown that the office of President belongs to no man alone. In doing so, he has continued setting the same example as former President nelson Mandela. For this, I salute him.

  • Well said bhuti Rouvanne! Looking forward to reconnect w/ you guys! Cheers from Berlin!

  • I am African

  • would be a great start to the opening ceremony in 2010.

  • President Mbeki is a wonderful and an educated man. he holds a degree in economics from the London School of Economics and a degree from Oxford and Cambridge. People can blame him and tarnish his reputation all they want, the man has done an icredible job during his time AS THE CEO of the Republic. My message to all those drama queens in SA, stop bitching and enjoying living in Africa's richest country.

  • sapride99, Just to clarify, Mbeki holds an economics degree as an external student from the University of London and a Master in Economics from the University of Sussex (not Oxford or Cambridge).

  • he's the greatest

  • he is simply the best. its such a shame that the people and the so called ANC can not see how great he is. he is my hero. they is no man who still lives whos better then him. his retirement would be a great lose to South Africa and Africa.

he hold a masters degree from a great University and know the leaders of this world

  • you are 1 misrable person, sa doesnt need idiots like you, our beloved country needs a lot of optimistic young people who will have the vission to take that country forward.

  • you are right. he is simply the best

  • I think this video speak about us all. I am proud to be associated to this speach as it reflect something out of every nation past. You have to live in the apartheid years to understand what the speech is reflecting on. Proudly South African VV

  • Mbeki is a hero to my heart and the world must know that.

  • nice but naieve

  • i want the music in the background... how can i get it please?

  • inspiring poem, i love thi poem

  • beutifull poem but fooked up people!!

  • this is beautiful, breathtaking. I just wish he would do more in terms of the crime..and now the xenophobia. us South Africans find it a human disgrace this is happening. Have to pray for an end to the violence and that we come together again in one mind to show the world what SA is capable of..beyond amazing rugby!

  • Excuse me while I wipe my tears, wipe my nose whilst waiting for this 'quiet diplomat' to snap out of his reverie, come back to mother earth, and wake up to the murder, misery and devastation of a once beautiful and prosperous Rhodesia/Zimbabwe at the hands of his 'hero and father of Africa' Robert Mugabe!

  • My family arrived on these shores in 1679, and even though my forefathers were part of this countries problems, I feel the words of Mbeki's speech because I know that I am a man of this soil. Now it is my turn to make a difference, in my own way (but learning from the past) to make South Africa a great country - for ALL its people. I will stand up for the future of this land, and I will stand proudly next to any man or woman who fights for her, with me.

  • i must commend you and the positive comment, Africa needs people of your worth.I also join up in fighting for her right place in the world. However, such a battle needs all Africans to join up and face its challanges.

  • wow! nice! (: south africa needs people like you. thanks

  • I must commend your patriotism, however I consider myself an Earthling first and a citizen of a country second. The Darwin awards are seeking contenders in Africa, I ain't gonna be on the list! Sometimes life gives hard lessons, it's better to go get a hiding now (by leaving) than wait for the extinction event. Good luck for those who stay. you're gonna need it!

  • ok shutup everybody...listen black or white and feel the power...

  • my god what a poem!!!!!

  • President Mbeki says "i am an african" he doesnt say i am black or not white, as africans we shold be proud of our rich, deep, powerful heritage, black or white!

  • i love this poem, i Thabo is the great man, long live Mbeki,

  • Oh thats strange, cause the genetesists claim that all people origionaly came from Africa.

  • Genetics conducted by who? genetics conducted by people who wants to claim the origin of Africa, can we reseach on Europe too? maybe we all also coming from Europe

    Indeed Africa for africans

Others are staying there not from Africa

  • The whole history exists of killing and conquering. The Xhosa, Zulu etc are also originally not from South Africa, they come from far far away. Tutsi from Rwanda come from Ithiopia. The spanish people from europe exists of Goths, Romans, Moors etc. If Europe is only for the whites, then there must be an amazing amount of black or whatever people lives there. I would like to refer to the speech of Haile Selassi, an African, to the UN.

  • That until the philosophy which holds one race superior and another inferior is finally and permanently discredited and abandoned: That until there are no longer first-class and second class citizens of any nation; That until the color of a man's skin is of no more significance than the color of his eyes; That until the basic human rights are equally guaranteed to all without regard to race;

  • That until that day, the dream of lasting peace and world citizenship and the rule of international morality will remain but a fleeting illusion, to be pursued but never attained; And until the ignoble and unhappy regimes that hold our brothers in Angola, in Mozambique and in South Africa in subhuman bondage have been toppled and destroyed; Until bigotry and prejudice and malicious and inhuman self-interest have been replaced by understanding and tolerance and good-will;

  • Until all Africans stand and speak as free beings, equal in the eyes of all men, as they are in the eyes of Heaven; Until that day, the African continent will not know peace. We Africans will fight, if necessary, and we know that we shall win, as we are confident in the victory of good over evil.

  • yeah i would never trade being african fo the world...and i'm sorry to say but mbeki is right...black africans are the only true africans...white south africans were not originally african!

  • When did Mbeki say that ?

  • quote:

"I am the grandchild who lays fresh flowers on the Boer graves at St Helena and the Bahamas, who sees in the mind's eye and suffers the suffering of a simple peasant folk, death, concentration camps, destroyed homesteads, a dream in ruins.

We are assembled here today to mark their victory in acquiring and exercising their right to formulate their own definition of what it means to be African."

  • Mbeki never said that. Google, the full text of the "I am an African speech".

He says the exact opposite. That white South Africans, are just Africans. No different or better than any other African.

    Quote:

    "

I am formed of the migrants who left Europe to find a new home on our native land. Whatever their own actions, they remain still, part of me.

    "

  • The word African, does not refer to color. The continent Africa is neither related to color. So indeed Africa for the Africans. Maybe you guys white or black should start looking at the future instead of fighting out issues from the past (and possibly before you were born).

  • Its so amazing! what does the Europe refer to? why are you discriminating other colours in Europe? is its only for white? since you refer africa as for everyone, whites have payed a lots of attention on the meaning of Africa its will be good to hear the meaning of other continents too!

  • Africa for the Africans.

The African Continent is unquestionably our Land; just like Europe is to the Europeans, and asia to the Asians.

Africa is our tradmark, everyone is welcomed to live with us. But not to claim it as theirs. Just as Europeans allow asians and other people to live in their cities, but at the end of the day it's governed & led by them only. And that is how it is in Africa.

We don't need an X-European trying to take whats ours.

  • What is yours?

You want the land, but the improvements on the land, are not yours. You want the houses, but they too are not yours. You want to rule yourselves and be free, so you put a dictator in charge. You want what is yours, but there is very little. And as history has shown, when it is all taken from the whites the blacks suffer crime, poverty and disease.

  • Gnubnub its just a matter of time. the ancient history is a clear picture of what africans can achieve. African nations are not starting from scratch but from below low below, Aids, bad leadership, and bad climate. But soon come and you might even see shift of power.

  • Zuma is now President of the ANC, a clear step towards the abyss. I do believe the africans can achieve great things, but the culture is so bad that it will take hundreds of years. I do not know of great advances in africa other than the egyptians, the romans and the arabs. the further away yoy get in africa from these influences the less advance you see. When you get to Zimbabwe you find an arab outpost, which it is claimed is african, and when you get to South Africa you find nothing.

  • its such a shame that a man like Zuma can hold a position that used to belong to great peaple like Nelson. Mbeki, Tambo ets

the ANC is full of dam people now

  • Great people like Nelson???? Would that be the same Nelson that was excluded from the USA on the basis that he was a terrorist? Is that the same Nelly who supported the blowing up of train stations like the one my mom missed by five minutes? I am going to watch with much interest as the black people suffer under their own consequenses and then fail to realise where it all went wrong. Anyway, keep praising Nelson if it makes you feel better.

  • what is yours morron! how did you build the so called white development? with whose resoucers land and labour? stop being ignorant, you have nothing all you have was stolen!

  • Even though there were laws and discrimination, the blacks never copied the white mans developments on their own turf. They never developed their own parallel business. They only came running to work for the white man, and now they steal the business instead of developing their own. Yes the white man would rather leave with nothing for the promise of being able to enjoy the fruits of his own labor. The black man chooses to take all and end up with nothing.

  • you are an ignorance and self cetred individual, when your forefathers stole from the Khoi and the San hard work, why did you not comment?as they came here sick and hungry.

  • I wasn't there when BOTH the Black mans ancestors and the white mans ancestors stole from the Khoi san. I am totaly ignorant as to whether I was ignorant at that time as it was in a previous incarnation. Perhaps I was a black man or hey here's a thought perhaps I was khoi San.

  • Show me an african country where some less advanced europeans came and collonised them and the standards went down, then the europeans left and all was well again. Then you can argue about self centerdness. Otherwise it was merely a case of protecting the rights of a people who had made a future in a place that had none.

  • You are just bitter, you will heal with time and the acceptance of the status quo

  • The status quo is still comming. One can experience it and be bitter, or one can watch from afar. Of course I would like the world to know what is comming, as it is not good, and should be avoided.

  • I can not understand you properly, but we should wait for what the future hold, be ready.

  • All I mean is that SA has finaly joined the other African countries, as a black run country. It is far far too soon and things are not going to end well.

  • hermangu, You have displayed your own IQ rather admirably. You and your 10 best mates together would probably not achieve a total of 70.

Jy my maat is n totale moroon.

  • You are the one who is morron still believe in the old hatred and putting people in boxes, i know a lots of whites who are stupid so intelligent got nothing to do with the colour you ignorant and arrogant!

  • Still, the low African IQ of 70 remains hard for many to accept. One reason for the disbelief: Africans—and African Americans—display high levels of social competence. They are outgoing, talkative, sociable, warm, and friendly. Psychometrically speaking, they score high on the Extraversion personality dimension.

  • Excuse me, but I feel you was racist in this comment.

I disagree that they are low IQ. I think they need opportunities to demonstrate their intelligence and hight IQ.

Though I have white skin, I want to declare that skin color is not proof of intelligence.

    Africans are intelligent and talented.

    Down the racism.

  • Please Mbeki speak for yourself, you are an African, whites will always be South AFrican!!!

  • yeah,it really does, despite the west trying desparately to make us feel otherwise

  • I am satisfied! Viva Africa!!! Indeed, it feels good to be African!

  • The day a leopard changes its spots is the day I'll believe a white man that claims to care abt blk people in South Africa.

  • Maybe he has done some good things but how come under his leadership is crime now so rampant. If the country was in such good shape why are people of all races immigrating in such big numbers

  • Oh yes - you really show your intelligence with constructive comments like this - I can list the hundreds of positive things that have been done by a government that I didn't even vote for, but as for you - your one-liner describes exactly who you are!

I hear the KKK is looking for new recruits - am sure they would love to have you.

  • The KKK no thanks but I say this for a couple of reasons but 1 of them being his strategy over the aids problem. Why has it taken so long for anti retrovirals to reach SOME of the people. A health minister who says eat potatoe and beetroot and let's not get onto his ex president

  • Oh cut the man some slack! He represents those who voted for him. Darker hued peoples. Obviously he can't do shit for y'all cos you're not in the 70% he deals with. Just like your white leaders did back in the day. Except a lot fairer. Chin up now.

  • what has being an african got to do with fighting crime, aids and the falsehood behind ur backyard, Mr Mbeki

  • Mr Mbeki is not a good leader - and I would say this whether he was black, white, green or purple. Under his leadership, 200,000 South Africans now die each year of Aids; 50,000 people a year are murdered and more than 150,000 children and adults raped; many millions are homeless and living in squalor while he lives in luxury.

  • In my opinion there shall be Blacks, also Whites, Hispanics, Europeans, Indians.. and so on, who live wherever they want and with every religion or attitude they have - on condition that they ACCEPT and RESPECT others and their way of living. No one should try to force one's attitude or way of living on somebody else. (Accordingly I don't agree to splab69's comment --> "All be Africans"..) That' it.

  • It is no longer an matter of being a "conservative racist" or not. It is a matter of keeping your life in a country where the government wants you dead.

I don't hate Mbeki because he's black. I hate him because he is racist, I hate him because he pretends crime does not exist, I hate him because he is hostile against Afrikaners and their rights, I hate him because he does nothing about the poverty in the country and I hate him because he has thrown South Africa into absolute anarchy.

  • he was never a racist he was tought to be one, Must i come to your home and beat you up in front of your 6 year old boy, must your teen son skip the country because the same people that beat you up are now after you son, must i destroy your family, must i take you childhood away and you father's love away from

  • must the doctors tell you that you won't have kids because as a young man electricyty put through you private parts so Kopskoot must i do all those thing to you and expect love from me Apartheid didn't just destroy the country it destroyed lives, families, communities, every thing so now tell me what do you want from us

  • crime is a product of apartheid hear me out, take away the only person who can teach me to be a man and make a way for myself (parents) let the streets raise me which ever way they see fit. what did you expect form communities and families that were broke down by your apartheid government they swor a lot of evil in black some of the evil they are now reaping

  • Why you tryna reason with these racist ayholes cuz..? I owe nobody an explanation for my freedom... They owe us an explanation to the shit they done did to us. I would gladly pay double my taxes if that money were used to repatriate all these racist settlers back to wherever thay came from...

  • Mr Mbeki has no original thoughts of his own - he quotes other writers. He says things he does not mean. That's why I am not impressed with him.

  • you don't have to have you own quotes to be a leader, things he says might mean anything to you but they do to me

  • I posted this video in the hope that the words would inspire people (note: people) as they inspired me - I don't care who you are, or where you come from - i respect you.

Until I realise that you are a backward, close-minded, racist conservative - then I am afraid, I laugh in your face. You are a dying breed.

But show me that you care about your fellow man, and I will exchange ideas freely, and encourage debate - after all, then we are working towards a common goal.

  • According to Buddhism, If you were to harbour unskillful thoughts, such as anger and hatred, it is inevitable that you would turn to unskillful speech, such as malicious gossiping and lying. This would eventually cause hurt and suffering to the object of your hatred. Consedquently this increases your karmic responsibilities. Warning to all racist whites.

  • I'm sure that litle bit of wisdom applies to everyone Cebo. Maybe it would have been a better choice of words to say "all racists" .. unless you presume that all whites are racists or only whites are racists.

  • dudeinwales is a perfect example of a person who's dedicated his life to harbouring unskillful thought. Is it really co-incidental that he was born white, in a country where white was might. His comments reflect someone who angy, and thus lies about the state of affairs in SA at random. This hurts us, we who love South Africa. This tarnishes the country's image elsewhere. His object of hatred is South Africa and Black South Africans in particular.

  • I don't think that hatred drives statements like those. It is critique on people not races. Critique like that on SA's AIDS policy is not aimed at a black government, but at its appointment (and persistance) with someone who is not suited for the role required at that point in time. Manto should have been fired a long time ago. Her deputy, Noziziwe Madlala-Routledge, has done so much more by leading by example in promoting AIDS awareness just by taking a test herself.

  • It is because people love South Africa that they feel the need to point out the wrongs. I agree that this is not always done constructively. Protecting someone like Manto by accusing someone of racism just because they critisise her work (she is a public figure) is the effect of someone harboring 'unskilful' thought.

  • Not even two weeks after Thabo Mbeki addressed the problem of 'perceptions that crime is out of control' a R90 Million revamp of the security was done at the president's home. An extra perimeter wall was built. If I had that around my house I'm sure my perceptions would be changed too!

  • U r an exception rather than the rule. dudeinwales makes derogatory comments about SA, along with many other white south africans. You don't have to look too far to find evidence. Constructive criticism is not only welcome, but should be pursued with vigour. Thank you for daring to be different.

  • It is the view of the United Nations that South Africa's HDI is declining, gatigati6. Not mine.

  • I did not intend to suggest that Manto is directly causing AIDS. However, she is exacerbating the problem, and is responsible for millions of black deaths. Not my opinion, but the opinion of leading AIDS experts.

  • The Human Development Index (developed by the United Nations) is a comparative measure of life expectancy, literacy, education, and standard of living for countries worldwide.

  • AIDS is caused by people like Manto who refuse to give out anti-retrovirals, even at the request of COSATU!

  • Now this is a dull statement if there ever was any - Anti-retrovirals are not a prevention for HIV/AIDS and yes poverty does have a direct association to the high mortality in Africa including that of AIDS.

Don't just read the headlines - read and understand the full statements.

  • black south africans are very very very xenophobic.ANYONE FROM ZIMBABWE AND ABOVE IS DISCRIMINATED AGAINST

  • I agree with pallieesa once an african always an african. I will never stop being drawn back to my homeland.

  • As far as i am concerned, everyone born and raised in africa is an african, you can be black and white but you are an african, you go oversees you realise how afican you are, although you thought i am european or whatever. You realise how different you are from everyone and how those people do things differently than you would do them at home, where back in africa. You learn to appriciate your africanness and the simple things african do everyday.

  • increased sexual behaviour is caused by poverty( which was brought about by white apartheid) sexual behaviour without the use of condoms causes aids. if you do not believe that poverty is a big player in the spread of aids then you need to recheck your thought process.

  • How can you say that, have you ever been to Africa, as your view on this subject is that of a narrow minded naive person, have a look at the following clip and then you will discover one of the major reason for the huge spread of HIV:South African Teens discuss sex & AIDS (Red Hot + Riot)

  • I spent most of my life in Africa, I now live in the UK, but my Heart will always remain in Zimbabwe and South Africa, When I heard this speech I felt real sad if only corruption and extremism could be taken out of the politics, what a place Africa could be.
