It's been going since the 70's when Flash started out in The Bronx. He was the innovator of the whole back to back thing (Not Scratching). It's a Hip Hop culture thing!! The DJ's played for the communities at the Block Parties and primarily they play for the B Boys or BreakDancers. Flash has always used his turntables like samplers...the principle is essentially the same. Cutting back and forth between loops, creating musical collages on the spot. Flash's early productions were mainly synth based though, from what I've hard. Needless to say, samples or synths...flash is a musical genius.

Several of Flashs first recordings that were pressed to wax by the sugarhill label were SYNTH BASED, not all..but some.
And yes, of course searching for breakbeats and making loops out of them was and is the foundation of what samplists do.

Flash has always used his turntables like samplers...the principle is essentially the same. Cutting back and forth between loops, creating musical collages on the spot. Flash's early productions were mainly synth based though, from what I've hard. Needless to say, samples or synths...flash is a musical genius.

wow, okay guys, this is my opinion. DJ is anyone who is able to play music from a DJ equipment, some are good some are bad. there is NOTHING to compare, Tiesto is much much different from Grand Master Flash, Grand Master Flash is one of the BEST DJs in the world and is well known for hip-hop music, scratching, producing and INTRODUCING.. without him turntablism wouldnt stand the same way as it does now. Tiesto, well known DJ for his solo performances and techno music mixing, nothing to compare
