Peak oil already will destroy 5 billion of the world's population by simple mathematics and the law of thermodynamics. All the other talk of "the economy" is moot. The economy=energy. Not money, gold, nor products, etc. Without sufficient hydrocarbon energy our planet must go back to the amount of sunlight that humans can capture per year to support our species. What is really developed that can realistically do that at this time?
And I notice that "investors" don't think about the environment, or the future beyond money, or any thought about our children's stake on this planet. Typical rape the earth and pretend we are somehow separate from nature and immune to its laws. Hoarding a ton of money will not help the world at all. If our taxes aren't being put to work on the energy problem first and foremost, a lot of us must die. The rich will just die later in a more unpleasant world.
They planned on raising taxes in the beginning. They've taxed alcohol, tobacco and several other things with more to come. Now they are going to raise taxes on everyone regardless of class. They keep spending and the expanding Government. This a paid for by the taxpayers. But the balance is off. Unemployment is way up so they are out that much more in taxes. They are building an economic crisis.
Some facts about Oil. A 55 gal. barrel of oil yields about half in gasoline. then the rest is by products such as heating oil, diesel, etc. So take your price per gallon and multiply times 23 then look at what it is going for per barrel. Most of the profit is on diesel since it was cleared with the sell of gas. I have a good friend that works on a tanker. Most of the time they are sitting out in the water waiting to get the call to go in and unload. Supply and demand. Keep up the good work.
I enjoy catching your thoughts. I don't agree with all of what you say but thats what makes us American. But regardless of what race gender or political party we are ,we are American first. Hi! Cool video! Seeing this from the oil nation of norway where i live, high standard of living means high oil consumption, and india and china is moving up the latter with a sharp increase in oil consumption. Peak oil is a long term phenomena, what happens in a week, month or year means nothing. I know we're there soon, norways oil production peaked in 2001. Long term trends point one way: Oil prices are going up and theyre finding less and less, most we have now was found in the 60s!
Oil prices are by and large driven by speculators. Peak oil is a questionable conceit, since many oil reserves are not being exploited, due to environmental concerns. Yes, the "low-hanging fruit" of oil reserves are substantially depleted, but further exploration continues to reveal new, previously unknown reserves. We'll have oil for a long time to come, and the price ought to depend on the cost of extracting it, not speculators parking tankers full of oil offshore until prices rise. ='[.]'=
Wealth is about more effective and less costly production, machinery run on oil replacing manual labour is what created wealth. If the cost of producing something, like the price of oil going up, it means there will be less wealth and less consumption. Here in Holland we've found for a thousand year supplie of gas with the newest technology.. now that's connected to the oilprice.. it doesnt make the oil cheaper. A war would.
So.. do oilcompanies causes wars ones in a while to get that price skyhigh? Look at Afghanistan.. there's a pipeline involved.
When a lot of business goin on.. people need to transport things. and for that you need oil. Now.. not only you but in other countries they also need it. Because products don't come from USA only.. that's what we call import.

Isn't it unbelievable? The same scenario is unfolding here in the US. People have been told that the only way to have opportunities in life was to go to college, and of course acquire massive debt, while the high-school drop out with a skilled trade gets a promotion. My advice to anyone: go for a skilled-trade program and unless you want to become a doctor, bypass the 4 year college scene altogether.
Sadly you have way too many HR departments that look for the degree first and then experience (if they get that far). My late mother say things from both sides of the employment issue and she knew that most positions have their requirements wildly inflated.

according to the latest iea report (the world's authority on oil data) the world's oil fields are depleting at a rate of approx 7% per year. we still have approx 13 years till we use it all but from now until then its all up hill.
The oil price was manipulated and kept low as a strategy to bankrupt the middle east but it will now return back to where it should be and that is over $100 per barrel. Hope this helps.
sneak in to demcads house while he's at work .. squeeze some tooth paste on a parsnip ..leave it by his tooth brush .
fill the bath tub up and float a few parsnips there ,,along with his rubber ducky ..leave a pair of parsnips in his slippers ..one in the pocket of his robe ..fill the freezer with as many as will fit ..leave a few in his milk jug ..put parsanips in all his glass in the cupboards ..leave one in his coffee pot ..lastly glue a few on his computer screen and the door handle too
Peak Oil is NOT running out of petroleum; it is reaching the maximum extraction rate for the world, when about half the conventional oil has been extracted. Most oil producing countries extract decreasing amounts, like the United States. Some OPEC countries may increase oil flow, but OPEC countries do not permit their fields to be audited. Fatih Birol said that oil producers are not investing enough money to prevent an energy crisis, not that he believes Peak Oil is near.
nothing like peak oil..oil is still there...still more to be found. what natural resources has depleted since beginning of time...tin, copper, gold, aluminum, silver, coal? We just need to found more oil, as long as the world exist, oil will exist so will other resources. Peak OIL IS JUST A POLITICALLY NONSENSE statement. We are blessed with abundance in this world,,,the only thing that runs scarce is FIAT MONEY..AND that is becuase it is not natural...it's man made.
most of the factories still producing in mich. are producing war materials.without the war the economy would really suck.americas theory, one war good for the economy, two wars will be better.next iran.libs back obama, they will compromise beliefs to suppout him and another war.with his speaking abilitys he will sell it to the public.(bush did it,and he is an ass)
look demcad, lets just call a spade a spade...oblaba is nothing but a slimey snake oil salesman.....a weasely little house nigger for the elite that never did prove his citizenship.
you must be a headcase...why are you asking demcad if architecture is a good field and if will find a job? how about asking the people that specialize in architecture LIKE ARCHITECTS! HEY THERE'S A LIGHT BULB MOMENT! SOME PEOPLE ARE SUCH DUMBASSES.
Where did you get information concerning oil running out? I know a former Shell Oil consultant. He told me that oil will last another thousand years (that was back in 1989). The only reason anyone is saying oil is running out is because of charcing more money for products via "carbon tax" and "cash for clunkers". Nothing could be further from the truth that oil is running out in our life time. I'm all for changing to solar/ green power, but totally against more taxation! Energy should be free!
I live in england. It was all go university and your life will be complete. The clever students went uni, the working classes got trades, and now its the ones with the trades who are doing well and everyone with degrees are either jobless, or doing a job they could of got with just a high school education.
Agreed. When I gradudated in high school, you were taught going to college is better. In fact, going to college is great and if you didn't you were stupid. Clearly its not the case
Hey Demcad, you gave me a good laugh buddy!. I appreciated your answer on the question about prostitution in Alaska. I was surprised that you answered, but that answer was pretty damn good. Thanks for your work. Cheers! Mike, London, On.
the only reason I plan to finish college is because if I chose to write some books...I don't want people to discredit me just because I didn't graduate
otherwise college is bullshit (for the most part and for most people)
Do you wher eye linner? Aren't you one of Obama"s Citizen Soldiers that he was talking about during his run for office. I noticed your a Americorps member are you also asso. with ACORN.
Liberal types just commit to whatever seems to be politically correct at the moment, but eventually it will be hip to disapprove of Obama and they will come around for a short while
the constitution was set up to allow states to regulate themselves.....we definately need to stay local and each state needs to start being self sufficient.
I think the solution will be go go local again. Individuals in local communities will have to start solving their job, manufacturing and sales problems locally again. We will have to cut off all support for imports from a local point of view. The economy that we knew is dying and it will not be back. The current government is not trying to bring it back and I think it is deliberate,IMHO.
I dont think peak oil is a con, if it was Texas would still be pumping big time, but its not, many fields have run out, plus they wouldnt be looking into getting oil out of shale oil if there was any other way.
One things for sure, I would rather make the energy here then give my money to the f%#king Arabs.
as with any group of voters, there always seems to be a significant # of them in denial when the politician breaks promises. they justify actions in their head so all they had invested in the politician (donations, volunteering) doesn't feel in vain.
also, like many markets, oil price is often not reflective of true supply and demand. there's lots of manipulation. Matt Taibbi's latest piece on Goldman Sachs talked @ how they blew a $4+ oil bubble last year. i still believe in peak oil tho.
Demcad, why so caught up in labels? Who cares?! Trying to fit people into categories and then pointing out when they don't behave like others in that category should prove that it doesn't work. Everybody has their political opinions and only the broadest labels really matter, imo.
Personally I think the divide is between the constitutional libertarians, and the status quo mainstream sheep.
Peak Oil isn't BS. Peak Oil refers to the point where the amount of oil being taken out of the Earth's crust starts to decrease. So to say it's BS makes no sense. That's basically saying we'll always find more and more oil, and keep taking it out and burning it on an increasing basis, for eternity. So no, it's not BS.
The only debate is if it's happened already, or if it's going to happen soon.
But I agree with you, they are using the problem to control prices and create fear.
It is bullshit because it is based solely on oil feilds currently producing . It does take into account oil feilds not in production or feilds not yet discovered.

Heyyyy nice intro! ;) (and you got your volume well leveled!! nice!) aww except the outro was kind of loud (just letting you know)
You cracked me up on the prostituion answer. I read that question and LOL'd but your answer was hilarious.
Even if they raise taxes, no one is going to do anything about it.
Peak oil has been forecasted for some time. The OPEC numbers are so clearly false, no one can really know for sure. If you research OPEC numbers at all, you will see what I mean immediately.
Click on the google finance page in the results. Click on the 5 year chart, and noticed how the US Dollar has been going WAY WAY down for years, but jumped up late last year. Now it's heading back down.
That push up in the value of the dollar is why gas(oil) prices came down.
Do you know why the dollar increased its value so drastically during such a rough time last year? I don't understand that at all??? Thanks for your response, too.
From what I understand, although we're having a hard time, the rest of the world is having a far worse time. Our government sells Treasury Bonds and other countries want to buy them because they think they're safer than anything else.
Now the trick is, what happens when the world recovers and 1, doesn't want to buy any more bonds, and 2, wants to sell the ones they currently have? Could end up being a MESS.
What's happening in Jefferson county is going to start happening in multiple states. I think the next 3 to 5 years are going to be more hellish than anyone can actually conceive at this moment. This is really really sad.
i agree with sewing the college... My college promised and guaranteed they would find me a job when I graduated and it took me 3 years to find a job and they didnt lift a finger.,, they just put me in debt and destroyed my credit because i couldnt pay them 1000 dollars a month for my student loans... how could I with no job...
you can thank govt school loans for flooding the college industry with cheap money, no wonder tuition keeps going up in price. When students have access to super cheap loans, there's no incentive to lower tuition prices.
I wouldn't call them cheap. I have some friends owe $85k or more for about 4-5 years of education at a public school.
But I understand what you mean. In the past 20 years, the cost of an education and the cost of medicine has been astronomically high even when factoring in inflation....
when i mentioned cheap I was referring the interest rates. When students are armed with these 1-3% interest huge school loans, why lower prices if I ran a college?
I see u brought back ur short music vid intro. Good for u. I like it. Do what makes u feel good about what ur doing. U can't please everyone. Nice vid. thnx for sharing Dem.
College is big business...yes they are in business to make money. Some offer a better service than others.
Tell your friend in NY to check out government jobs. The goverment is highering in different in many different job categories. My office is getting ready to higher 200 people at the end of September with interviews starting today.
I told you Dem, their is NOTHING black about Obama!! Obama doesn't even have a BBQ grill sittin on the lawn of the whitehouse! That's pathetic! Obama and Bush are both serving the same power elites!
Morgan Stanley was screwing with the oil market before the collapse, that was one of a few reasons it went up. A collapse of the dollar also didn't help.
Professor Kenneth Deffeyes of Princeton (Geology) said in a lecture (Nov. 2005) that the data he collected led him to conclude that peak oil happened in May of 2005.
Professor Colin Campbell of Oxford (UK, Geology) agreed that peak oil would happen in 2005. He said that price spikes and oil shortages would affect industry and production, which depends heavily on cheap energy. He said the result could be an economic depression.
Geologists have been predicting the coming of peak oil since the 1950s. Some don't believe because of the oil companies' & Wall Street's manipulations of oil prices. But they were taking full advantage of a natural upcoming crisis.
There are other sources of oil (like oil shale) in huge supply. But they will be extremely more expensive & toxic to produce than conventional oil.
Oil will soon be part of an energy mix, but never a primary energy source again.
Then, as the discussion goes, as oil declines, so does industrial production. In other words, we are entering an economic great depression that we will never rise out of.
Some argue that a substitute for oil will be found, but substitutes, not including coal, make up only 0.5% of energy consumption, so it has not happened yet.
As I have told my parents, society is leaving nothing for the grandchildren.
Oil prices collapsed for a number of reasons. First, expected future demand went way down during the financial meltdown. Second, many investors invest on margin and got margin calls. Thsi is forced selling. Third, the dollar appreciated around 30%, lower the cost of oil to Americans, and fourth, some of the oil market manipulators took a beating.
If you're smart, you'll forget about buying food and weapons for the depression that will never come. You're better off putting your money in some commodiy and foreign currency EFTs instead, and maybe some foreign and domestic index funds.
Damn....a reasonable person swimming in the middle of the cess pool...I check in here about once a week to see what kind of rumors and garbage DEMCAD elaborates on...what's funny is the same agencies he and others mock for reporting, he uses to base his facts upon for these videos. I don't fault him, I think he's a good guy, just lost in the winds of dis-info and paranoia like most here
Who can be trusted to give the story on any given news item as it really is without twisting the facts to support their own views? I take everything I see in the mainstream media with a grain of salt. I get most of my news from the net but then again I'm very weary of the source. I see the frustation in DEMCAD and I have to say I agree with most of what he says in that he is voicing the frustration I think we are all feeling right now. He does a good job. I can't knock him.
Good point about career centers in colleges. I graduated from UF and the career center was useless. It was staffed by young college students who seemed know nothing about getting jobs and there was no help infrastructure-wise anyway.
Richard Nixon won 49 states in 72, but a few years later you couldnt find anyone who would admit voting for him.
George Bush had an approval rating of about 90% in 2001, Yes really I couldnt believe it either.
The masses now follow Obama,
Obamas popularity will fade, and the so called liberals, will shift their support to the next politician who promises to save them. Thats just the way things are.
Oil fell dramatically from $147 b/c the increase from about $105-115 to $147 was completely due to speculation by hedge funds, Merrill, Bear Sterns, Goldman, Morgan, etc... It wasn't due to ACTUAL supply/demand meaning s/d based on consumption. When these companies started to report losses due to things like sub-prime loans and other avenues, they had to cover their losses and did so by selling their assets in oil. It was a mass liquidation to raise cash that they desperately needed at the time.
All the Obama Hate speech is drowning out anything else on the news. We went from "it's Obama's economy", to "we don't need the stimulus", and now "he's going to crush free enterprise with Insurance Reform". Throw in the redoric and conspiracies, who can get through and be loud enough to draw attention? There is still Code Pink at every military type hearing. There are still pressure to close Getmo and bring the troops home. There is no good wars.
The rising price of gas is due to the value of the dollar, the dollar is losing value, and fast. Their is no oil shortage at all, believe me. Their is plenty of oil all over the world for hundreds of years to come, most people just don't know the truth. They want us to think that their is an oil shortage, so they can raise the price, to collect more income from us so that they can continue doing what they want to do. They need us to finance their agenda.
I had finacail aid so i didn't owe anything but i have a degree in auto body repair and currently still work as a salesmean i could not find a job in this field.
Obama = Bush - on steroids - pick any subject the liberals hated - (war, deficit, spending, spying, secrecy, corruption, etc) and they are completely quiet about the subjects - even while the things they hated are now even worse - and accelerating faster than ever.
if you think about the situation with oil, we're in a deep recession where people are not spending money, including traveling as much. so if we're not using as much gasoline (esp. in summer--a high travel season), then there should be no shortage for demand. that doesn't explain the rising prices of gas within the past few weeks.
The problem isn't running out of oil, the problem is running out of "cheap" oil. You could have a trillion barrels of oil under your house, but if it costs 1.5 barrels of oil worth of energy to extract 1 barrel, the oil is useless.
Demcad - Not all opponents of the war wanted out of Iraq. Some of us wanted to fight a SMART and EFFECTIVE war. Not the 7 years of not securing the IED materials, lack of body armor and the slow pace of up-armoring Humvees. The questionable decisions that were made are well documented. Are you going to defend Abu Ghraib, Haliburton and Blackwater as a models of superior management and responsibility? You seem to have forgotten how badly this was executed until Gen Petraeus took control.
Buy Oil. It will go up. Even if it goes down (for awhile... meh.) And Silver and Gold (especially Silver) While you still can. Obama is a Voodoo Hypnotist controlled by those behind the curtain. The Ones we never see. The Wizards of Oz .
I don't subscribe to conspiracy theory but if I did ... Oil is the Achilles Heel of the world economy - Ireland produces none so we'd be shagged - we'll have to try to start producing juice from electricity or something.
I am wondering how Anarchic and local home-produced algae oil or electricity could turn this sector. Their power would vanish ... pff
hehe...we're ALL shagged, my friend! some local municipalies are offering financing of solar power in exchange for savings obtained over a period of time. in that regard, i wonder if solar energy would definitely be a good investment without being similarly chained to the powers that be....
I see Anarchy up ahead - the Good kind of Anarchy. But people have to pull their head out of the curtains where they're doing their neighbour's car watching. Communities producing their own energy is what I see - I don't believe in the powers that be but if there are any then it's they who should be shagged.
We've all got to get together and chop Gulliver up and eat his organs first though.
That's why I have a car that runs on natural gas. I suggest you get one while the prices are low - look on ebay after making sure your area has stations that dispense the gas ... or you install a home dispenser. It will help you avoid the shortages, the rationing, and the long lines.
i believe humans have barely scratched the earths surface and there is plenty of oil for all. most politicians are in the oil business from what i have read. they want it at a solid price and set restrictions on drilling
yes actually, theres several oil wells in the United states alone, plus more in Canada. Its all control of money flow. But soon enough they will capitalize on the "green energy" source and that shit will be just as expensive for all us sheeple.
im pretty sure solar will be massive. think about a computer 50 years ago compared to one now in terms of price and performance. we will see the same advances in solar. eventually it will be dirt cheap and super powerful. i look foward to these wonderful days!
Hank Paulson, former Treasury Secretary received an "golden parachute" from Goldman Sachs of 200 million dollars of stocks. Went straight from GS to gov job and sold them, paid exactly zero in taxes. Saved him approx. 30 million, but they have no problem taxing the common people.
Peak oil already will destroy 5 billion of the world's population by simple mathematics and the law of thermodynamics. All the other talk of "the economy" is moot. The economy=energy. The nice thing of forthfilling a duty in the army is that you can choose for yourself why your there.
Or .. your help people and help the oil companies. Your doing both things at the same time.
I think only the WO's were wars where oil did not was the big issue. Just .. status, greed and now Islam wants to win with fear.
(terrorism). You can't see the enemy, than there is non. Still we allow them as.. immigrants.
Islam is easy to beat.. just use alternative energy. The fear is over

We are in trouble.

nothing like peak oil..oil is still there...still more to be found. what natural resources has depleted since beginning of time...tin, copper, gold, aluminum, silver, coal? We just need to found more oil, as long as the world exist, oil will exist so will other resources. Peak OIL IS JUST A POLITICALLY NONSENSE statement. We are blessed with abundance in this world,,,the only thing that runs scarce is FIAT MONEY..AND that is becuase it is not natural...it's man made.

The current government is not trying to bring it back and I think it is deliberate,IMHO.

as with any group of voters, there always seems to be a significant # of them in denial when the politician breaks promises. they justify actions in their head so all they had invested in the politician (donations, volunteering) doesn't feel in vain.
also, like many markets, oil price is often not reflective of true supply and demand. there's lots of manipulation.

Peak Oil is BS... A total myth... Its a lie used to raise prices and fuck us all over.
lighthammer2531 2 years ago
Peak Oil isn't BS. Peak Oil refers to the point where the amount of oil being taken out of the Earth's crust starts to decrease. So to say it's BS makes no sense. That's basically saying we'll always find more and more oil, and keep taking it out and burning it on an increasing basis, for eternity. So no, it's not BS.
The only debate is if it's happened already, or if it's going to happen soon.
But I agree with you, they are using the problem to control prices and create fear.
drutter 2 years ago
Actually that isn't completely true, we can reach peak production and still have a lot of oil. The problem is running out of cheap oil.

Oil prices go up as the US dollar goes down. Simple as that. No supply/demand issues, no peak oil, none of the media hype.
The people we buy oil from are not American... If our US dollar is worth 20% less than last month, then we have to give them 20% more of them.
Look at the charts of the USD vs other currencies and you'll see if matches perfectly to the price of gas.
jonvssocrates 2 years ago 2
Very true... however I wonder why the prices went down? I never understood that... any idea?
pokerslut530 2 years ago
Yeah google this "USDEUR"
Click on the google finance page in the results. Click on the 5 year chart, and noticed how the US Dollar has been going WAY WAY down for years, but jumped up late last year. Now it's heading back down.
That push up in the value of the dollar is why gas(oil) prices came down.
jonvssocrates 2 years ago
Do you know why the dollar increased its value so drastically during such a rough time last year? I don't understand that at all??? Thanks for your response, too.
pokerslut530 2 years ago
From what I understand, although we're having a hard time, the rest of the world is having a far worse time. Our government sells Treasury Bonds and other countries want to buy them because they think they're safer than anything else.
Now the trick is, what happens when the world recovers and 1, doesn't want to buy any more bonds, and 2, wants to sell the ones they currently have? Could end up being a MESS.

I believe both were right.
A huge economic depression is upon us.
countryhorsefive 2 years ago
Yep. Peak oil is real.
ANewDay2007 2 years ago
Then, as the discussion goes, as oil declines, so does industrial production. In other words, we are entering an economic great depression that we will never rise out of.
Some argue that a substitute for oil will be found, but substitutes, not including coal, make up only 0.5% of energy consumption, so it has not happened yet.
As I have told my parents, society is leaving nothing for the grandchildren.
countryhorsefive 2 years ago
Yep. It's very sad what's about to happen to economies all over the world & to future generations as the oil age dies.
ANewDay2007 2 years ago
maybe this will be a wake up call to colleges to do more for students who are headed out the door. great vid and love that the intro is back.
stshell 2 years ago
Oil prices collapsed for a number of reasons. First, expected future demand went way down during the financial meltdown. Second, many investors invest on margin and got margin calls. Thsi is forced selling. Third, the dollar appreciated around 30%, lower the cost of oil to Americans, and fourth, some of the oil market manipulators took a beating.
Zeldovich 2 years ago
If you're smart, you'll forget about buying food and weapons for the depression that will never come. You're better off putting your money in some commodiy and foreign currency EFTs instead, and maybe some foreign and domestic index funds.

Richard Nixon won 49 states in 72, but a few years later you couldnt find anyone who would admit voting for him.

The rising price of gas is due to the value of the dollar, the dollar is losing value, and fast. Their is no oil shortage at all, believe me. Their is plenty of oil all over the world for hundreds of years to come, most people just don't know the truth. They want us to think that their is an oil shortage, so they can raise the price, to collect more income from us so that they can continue doing what they want to do. if you think about the situation with oil, we're in a deep recession where people are not spending money, including traveling as much. so if we're not using as much gasoline (esp. in summer--a high travel season), then there should be no shortage for demand. that doesn't explain the rising prices of gas within the past few weeks.

I think we are not seeing strong anti-war, gitmo, ect from the liberal camp for three reasons.
1. Their man won, and they're still in the "honeymoon" phase where he can do no wrong (but this is starting to wear off imo).
2. Hatred for Bush was the main galvanizing force, and now that he's gone, they're not as much reason to be as anti war.
3. The economic issues are now outweighing all other concerns. Of course you may see them get fired up for "single payer" healthcare... :(

hehe...we're ALL shagged, my friend! some local municipalies are offering financing of solar power in exchange for savings obtained over a period of time. in that regard, i wonder if solar energy would definitely be a good investment without being similarly chained to the powers that be....

I see Anarchy up ahead - the Good kind of Anarchy. But people have to pull their head out of the curtains where they're doing their neighbour's car watching.
