I was hooked on Descent. I first encountered it in a sampler. D1. It was so long ago. Then came D2 when the game came into it's own. With D3 the designers dropped the ball. The graphics were bumped up but the game play was sacrificed. I now have a new laptop and Windows 7. GOG people say that if I get the game from them, they'll get it going for me.
I still have the origina Descent & the box with everything in it, cd, manual, etc... and another one but never been played on the 2nd box both in new/mint condition. I wish it were worth some money. The box looks pretty badass compare to these new game boxes nowadays cheap n plastic looking.
@Spitfirebird He's not joking. It's an incredible deal. The games are made for play on all modern Windows machines and they even include the original CD based music(the first game contains the redbook audio that was made for the mac/ps1 versions of the game). Be forewarned though, you're going to have problems if your credit/debit card doesn't allow for international charges. The site is based in Europe and sadly I wasn't able to DL the games. It was a huge letdown. :(
@gregoryvn3 me too but i don't want to play this on keyboard since it get's real complicated and your bacicilly supernoob online without joystick - tried once , I was worse than novice -like a consoler meeting a pc-gamer pro
i dont find a download for the full version ... my full version of the game is bronken -.- btw MOST AWESOME GAME EVER MADE not too easy not to hard and awesome gameplay
@CraverSteven Hehe, my cd's completely wrecked, scratched and beaten up too. I always prefared this to the first game too since i loved the bosses and the mines that completely messed with your head and made you get lost more then once, even with guidebot. =P
I almost completely forgot about this game until I went through my box of '95 game software... I also ran across Terminal Velocity in the box too... wow, I need to play this again!
These games really made an impression on me when I was little... I remember building some small wooden sign thing in crafts class, and being told to decorate it and make it personal and etch my name into it... and I was like "Well, what the heck do I put on it? A worm with a rocket launcher.. and... um... some green lasers. There we go. Hey, dude, look! I got green lasers on mine!"
Left Alt - Slide On WSAD - Accelerate, reverse, slide left, slide right, respectively ZX - Slide up/slide down, respectively Arrow Keys - Pitch forward/backward and turn left/right F - Flare B - Bomb Left/Right Ctrl - Primary Weapon Space Bar - Secondary Weapon Right Alt - Bank On QE - Bank left/right, respectively C - Afterburner R - Rear view Tab - Automap Headlight - H Shield transformer - T Above controls are a suitable substitute for a joystick. Hope ya enjoy it, people! :D
I used to work for a Computer shop back in the mid 90's till 2000 and although i was still fully in my Amiga back then i was admittedly very impressed by this when i used to play it in the Showroom on weekends :)
There have been a total of 3 Descent games released in the 90's, not including spinoffs and expansions. Why aren't they making anymore of these games?!
they've cancelled Descent 4 in 200 due to poor sales of descent 3, but have re registered the trademark, and i think they are planning to make a sequel soon.

I've got to go get this game again.
I used to do this in less time on insane while not dying, and saving all hostages. Good times.

Dude the cinematics for this and general script are so incredibly well written and engaging, newer games should learn from this kind of story telling
