'war was just a legend, and hate was never known.' god neil young is such a fucking tard when it comes to history. the aztecs were an empire which forcefully integrated other societies and forced them to send human sacrifices to them. the reason cortes was able to conquer them so easily [besides of course, disease] was that he was able to 'ally' himself with tribes which had grown tired of aztec rule.

@cominroitover80 First of all, you misquoted, it's "hate was just a legend, war was never known," so you're an idiot. Second of all, the song is not meant to be a history textbook, this is music. He's capturing the ruthless trek of the Europeans across the Americas, killing and robbing the natives of their custom of being in tune with nature and the earth. Cortez himself is just an illustration of this...
