  • Not really sure if I much care if the casino scene were staged or real. The true gold (or perhaps sterling would the more appropriate descriptor here...) of the episode is the look on Ben's face when he realizes that the excitement and hope of 180K just got crushed, and he'd just lost 5K. Priceless :)

  • lol @ the croupier saying 16 red @ 1:23 when the ball is clearly on black 13 @ 1:38

  • Derren Brown was using a computer! The Real Hustle Casino Gambling Devices will show you how it was done!!!

  • ya seriously that was probably the most obvious cheat ive seen derren do in a while. Right when the ball goes into place not only is the left camera fuzzed up at that exact time but right side has no angle on the roulette table.

  • He sets his bet after the ball is set in - he's just watching where it goes. That's the only trick. (Most casinos forbid this nowadays ^^)

  • The whole scenario was staged by brown in a mock up casino. You don't see the roulette ball ''fall'' into its slot , it was probably put there by hand out of frame....I used to love him but now his works a litte tired ..

  • he was si unlucky, but atleast ppl wnt think he cheats

  • That guy holding large check at the end look alot like derren!!

  • i dont think derren said ben gets the winnings, he just said his 5k can be turned into 175k, which is 180k gross playout. betting 5k in euros or any other currency doesnt matter as long as derren gave either 5k or 180k to ben in sterling

  • Do you *really* think he had any of Ben's money? All he needed to have was footage of Ben entering the bank, so it would make absolutely no sense to ask for money he was never going to use, since the roulette bit was prerecorded.

  • when Ben got to the end of the truck and started walking up the steps,Brown said "There you go".He then realised his mistake and asked " are you there Ben?Are you there? He must have been able to see him else he would not have known he had got to the end of the truck

  • if u look closely at the end part where the bloke says don't worry we will get your money back, next the van on the left, there was man holding a big cheque of 175k LOL thats how confident that derren was gonna do it

  • it obviously says 180k. logically and visually you fail

  • That IS Derren. It's a JOKE.

  • here's the thing, in england, you need to communicate to the bank, letting them know that you wish to withdraw such a large sum of money, you also need to have multiple forms of identification(incuding a passport) so that they can be sure that you are who you say you are. Also, certain banks only let you withdraw 1000 pounds at a time, so you need a certain type of bank.

  • Still not been taken down...

  • Lol?

  • Pretty amazing to get it one off though. Even a computer would have trouble doing that on a consistent basis.

Also where would he be in Europe where betting 5000 would equal £5000? It would be different in euros.

  • That clearly wasn't him at the end with the cheque. If it was then it wasn't live, the guy at the end has a hundred pounds on derren, is wearing completely different clothes, look at his shoes.

That guy was just there to present the cheque to 'Ben' when Derren won the money as he had expected, to give a happy ending with him receiving his money. When he didn't win, the guy wasn't needed & so stayed where he was

  • Why would he have a camera up his sleeve? He could have had one in the middle of his tie.Cameras can be miniscule these days.

  • xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

derren did not fail, YOU LOT FAILED!!!!

haha didnt you see who was holding the big novelty cheque at the end of the show on the left outside the van ben was in????? nice pose derren ;)

  • How to beat a Casino = FAIL

  • even though i sorta feel sorry for him ilaughed out loud when he failed dunno why

  • Comment removed

  • it was not a fail. all of it was meant to go exactly as planned untill next week when he will reveal the rest of the story.

There is no way under the earth(with his big ego) that he is going to finish his season with a chance to fail. Remember his show was a 4 part series with a twist.

he is giving everyone a chance to call him a fail, then he will come out with what he has been up to and then, egg on everyones face

  • Some of the camera distortion and the way the guy said "don'y worry, we'll get your money back" looked really, really fake.

  • I actually feel sorry for Derren! If he didn't do it on purpose that is. We all expected it to go well, and when it went wrong the whole room was like, "LOL! FAIL! PWND!" It was funny but poor derren xD

  • how can you be 100% sure it was that same guy who wentt to the bank, and even sat down with derren brown? I'm going to watch it back, but i think the guy was definitely in on the joke, he would have remembered if he had met derren brown before, they must have filmed him walking in the street and then filmed a double being hypnotised or something. He woul dhave realised he had £5000 missing too, they tricked him and in turn the viewers

  • Lol. =D

  • It says 180k

  • isn't that £175 grand plus the original £5000 back? Thta's derren brown with the cheque, he was in the 1st van!

  • Yeah it is. He probably was.

  • No, the guy was only 5k down. Derren didn't win so he didn't owe him anymore than 5k. And that was not Derren with the cheque.

  • People are too ready to believe the things that Brown tells them. There is no proof that it was live for a start. The whole thing could have been pre- recorded.Secondly, there is no proof that he is banned from every casino in Britain.I think that it just something he made up just to give himself an aura of mystery.I think he asked for the 5000 to be changed into 500s so we could hear a voice say "euros" ,to give the idea he was abroad. But the English roulette table is a give away.

  • I didn't know there was an English style table - but I don't know much about roulette. I checked on Wikipedia, and is it the same as the American one?

  • in american there are 2 Zeros instead of 1

  • So is an English board a European wheel with an American table layout?

  • Sounds pretty dodgy to me.

  • I meant that the writing on the table was in English. If,as he claimed,he was in Europe then the writing would have been from the country he was supposedly in.Strange that there was not a slight delay in the transmission. There usually is when people are in two different countries.Maybe he was just in a studio next door.I missed a part of it.Why did he have to go in the back of a wagon ?

  • right clive, i hate to be the one who tells you this; England is somewhere in europe...

  • but did he not say he'd been in mainland europe?

  • lol, exactly

  • I know England is in Europe, but the casino was using Euros :)

  • They'd be in English seeing as it is the most universal language for Europe. People playing from different countries around Europe would likely have more of an understanding of English than say.. French, which is how the worker sounded. Plus, it seemed like a nice casino, the crowd it would draw would surely be well educated. Agree with the transmission part though

  • I thought Ben was going to stroke out when he saw Derren had missed! Look at his eyes!

  • i think he knew it was gonna land on thirty as there were subliminal messages all through the show!!

  • @05lineh Where?

  • People who are saying he deliberately lost to avoid paying the guy: he would have given the guy all his winnings! He wouldn't have made or lost anything!

I think he got it wrong, but was damn close

  • how do you think this will make him more money? You can't say that it will raise his popularity because he is already at the height of his fame.

Are you saying that I'm gullible by the way?

  • LOL@the guys face

  • It is a trick. He couldn't have won else he would have had to pay hundreds of thousands of pounds. Instead he does the next best thing. This does 3 things: avoids having to find lots of money, still makes it seem like he gets close, and gives the illusion of reality (for this and other tricks). Finally, he asks for "ten 500s" - it's in pounds when it should be in Euros (remember he's banned from UK casinos).

  • Good point.

    I don't expect he want's to pay out 175k

  • It couldn't have been a real loss, because he was only one off. His trajectory thing would obviously never have worked because there are FAR too many variables. So this means that it must have been staged and/or pre-recorded. If it was pre-recorded then it is definitely fake, and if it was staged there would be no reason for it to be one off other than coincidence or deliberate decision. I'm still hoping he's going to reveal that he painted the number 30 under every london bus or something :)

  • Hmm.

Well he obviously didn't want to give someone 175k.

    LOL.

  • nah its gotta be genuine or he wouldnt try it on live tv... think he practiced it a LOT but as you said too many variables for it to be right every time, not impossible to get it majority of times though

  • It probably wasn't actually on live TV, and if it was he wouldn't actually have tried the genuine idea. It's just too risky. But I also think that no matter how much he practised, he wouldn't be able to go further than guessing

  • biggest anticlimax ever, shame though reviews will knock him for messing it up but lets face it 1 off is still stupidly good, but still LOL man waiting round the corner with the cheque and everything

  • Yeah.

That's funny, they're definite that he's gonna win it, and he doesn't. xD

  • To be fair to him he was only one number out. He is also returning the 5k. If he did really work out where the ball was roughly going to land then that is a phemonal skill. He should take himself and a couple of friends down to any casino and just work the table.

  • Yeah. That's a nice gesture as well. It is a good skill.

That would work apart from the fact that he's banned in every casino in the world. Lol.

  • mega fail!!

however i have a tiny feeling like derren brown meant that for some reason???

    but why? lol

  • Yup.

Lol. Read the earlier comments =D

  • haha have done now!!

  • =D.

  • I am going before I get obsessed with this crap :)

  • Lol. Cya then.

  • Notice the really dramatic camera losing signal at 3:28

    Looks staged!

  • Yeah, agreed.

  • Just a thought........If he was going to put 5 grand on one number, why did he ask for ten 500s ? It is puzzling me. Any ideas ?

  • Dunno, maybe he preferred it or something?

  • thx 4 the upload man!

  • No problem.

    Happy to help.

  • If some bloke had hypnotised me and lost 5 grand of my cash i would be waiting at the airport with a big stick waiting for him..Oh ,I forgot. He was in a room next door to Ben. His camera had loads of static and interference on it,but the picture on Ben's screen was perfect

  • Yeah. More like a massive Baton.

Yeah, you could do a better job in Sony Vegas.

  • yeh he took about 4 calls on that stick to your chair crap and then the next event weas onlt texting in what a fag derren brown is looser

  • LMAO.

I don't think they appreciated that. xD

  • i think these posts just move about by themselves

  • Yeah, they've got a mind of their own. -_-

  • if he can "ppredict" 6 lottery numbers with the odds of about 14,000,000 - 1 ,then choosing one ball at odds of about 35 - 1 would be as easy as falling off a log.

  • xD.

  • It was a completely different method he was using, or if you dont beleive him claiming to be using.

  • who is deleting and reposting ?

  • I thought it was you, I commented, moments later both posts had disappeared and it was above another post...

  • the guy is stuck to his chair at the end..a week late :)

  • Lol. You mean two weeks? xD.

The week before the casino was the psychic spy one, the three concentric circles.

  • the guy should have taken more than £5,000 out of the bank so he could get a decent haircut.

  • Lol, agreed.

  • Was shocked when I saw it first, but I think its Derren's attempt to shpw the world he is not a fake and sometimes gets things wrong - ironic really as he faked trying to not be fake lol

  • Lol.

    Yeah, it's just a tad ironic.xD

  • Umm. Why are you deleting and reposting?

  • It was clearly a set up because you can't just go into a bank and take out £5000 at once without prior permission. I also think it would be illegal for Derren Brown to do so. He probably took nothing out and then Derren Brown made it look like he did. He is an illusionist after all

  • Hmm. Maybe.

  • Well scripted and acted. But that is all it was.

  • Yeah. There wasn't exactly many other people anyway.

  • yeah same

  • ben was the biggest stooge ive ever seen... derren browns a great guy and produced some good videos but these last 4 have been dreadful... all so fake, please derren, we miss the real you

  • Yeah, but I think the whole point was to show that he was human and didn't have superpowers and stuff.

  • i felt really sorry for the guy lol, i'd have thought i was in safe hands if i was in his posittion...ah well nobody wins 'em all

  • Yeah, same.

    Yeah, life is life.

  • ive noticed one rather big mistake, Derren bets £5,000 sterling, he then asked the croupier for "5 100's" the croupier then says "change €5000" but £5,000 sterling is a little under €5500.... any thoughts?

  • yeah i thought that aswell. Oh well, all abit redundant now considering it didn't work.

  • Hmmm.

Well, it sort of worked. He was one out.

  • i think most people have noticed he meant to get it wrong

  • Yeah, basically everyone knows that now.

  • what do you mean he meant to get it wrong? I don't agree with this idea that he deliberately picked the wrong number to show people that he can fail or as a guy said early, so that people 'people stop thinking he has supernatural powers'.

I think it was a genuine fail.

  • Hmm.

    Good sides of arguements..

  • yeah. But seriously though, I don't understand, do people think that he meant to get it wrong? I don't mean to be condescending but I just can't imagine that they would use up money, time and effort just to get something deliberately wrong.

  • I can

pay a penny to make a pound

Getting it a bit wrong is an attempt to make us think it more likely to be true. This makes him more money.

    "It's a trick"??????

Oh, I thought it was magic or, even funnier "deep maths"

Gullibility will be the end of us all.

  • Obviously a fake and it was all set up! What sort of casino has no music, no atmosphere and from what I could tell about four customers!

  • A fake one?

  • cheque even

  • erm the guy holding the check.. full screen it on high quality

    the person look familiar???

you decide lol, wouldnt surprise me if he was sitting in the next truck the whole time

  • Lol.

    Yah.

  • who do u fink the guy is?

  • derren.

  • who is the person?

    cant work it out

  • Most people think Derren or the producer.

  • he fucked up

  • Guy with life sized cheque sayin 180,000 at 3:44

  • Loooooool.

  • Yeah, it's so obvious =D.

  • I felt sorry for him

  • Same.

  • I feel sorry for Derren and That guy

  • Yeah - Same.

  • Its the trying that counts =]

  • Yup.

  • :O I watched this last night so I wasted basically a whole hour just to end up seeing him fail. I feel sorry for that guy who just lost £5,000 of his money really. He tries to cover it up at 3:34. :S

  • Lol.

Yeah, he would get it back though.

  • His face at 3:35 lol

  • Yeah, it's priceless.

  • this just proves that everything that derren has done is real and not fake.

  • That's a point towards him doing this purposefully.

  • yep i ttally agree people bad mout him and for what?

  • Bens face, PRICELESS

  • Yeah.

He looks like he'd seen a ghost or something.

    xD

  • hahahahahhahahahaha!!!

what he SHOULD of done is fixed the video, like set up somewhere to look like a casino and him winning it then shown that tape as he didnt show any proof the video was live.. he failed anyway so that doesnt really matter but thats what he should of did

  • Hmm.

    Maybe.

  • his face at 3,03 ouch...there goeas my 5 grand

  • Yeah, I feel sorry for him. xD

  • If you looked up 'close but no cigar' in the video phrasebook this would be the entry. Damn it, he was so close.

  • Yup, that it would. =D

  • I'm a massive fan of Derren's, not so much for his magic or tricks but more for his presentation stlye and entertainment levels.

However, I think that after this series his popularity will start to dwindle somewhat.

  • Hmm.

Yeah, he's put quite a lot of tricks and stuff in this series and people will just think, 'Ahh, he hasn't got anything left'.

    Shame.

  • i think that was the whole idea of the series - that people stop thinking he has supernatural powers

  • Yeah. I agree.

  • This was one of the funniest fails I have ever seen.

I remember at the end of the show after Derren lost the guy was just like dont worry you will get ur 5 grand back and then u see the guy sitting on his own in the van thinkin fuck I didnt get 175k and then the credits just go.

  • Yeah, agreed.

Yeah. He's just frozen there, almost paralysed.

Then, 'Ben, don't worry, we're gonna get your 5 grand back' in such a reassuring voice.

    xD

  • it was meant to fail, read the guardian article for more info

  • Anyone that thinks this was real is a spack.

that ben guy was the worst actor ever...

when the cameras were outside his backdoor and he claimed he couldnt see them... and when after 5 minutes of the camera being on him he goes 'oh im on tv' :|

  • Lol.

    That makes me laugh.

    'Oh I'm on TV?!'.

It's true though, it did happen. XP

  • bad luck! so close to the number 8

  • Yeah :S

  • wait, what is the cheque doing there for 180k?

  • Because they thought that Derren would win the 175k and they were going to present it to Ben.

  • ooh, ouch. does he still get it? i take it he does?

  • Yeah. I'm not sure if he got the 180k, he'd have definitely got the 5k back.

  • UNLUCKYYY.

  • when i first watch this i felt well sad for ben but if u notice at the end on the left is a check for 140k. im relieved now

  • Lol.

    It's 180k actually lol. =D

  • nice one derren, you just got pwnd!

  • xD.

  • i hounestly think it was genuine and derren just got it wrong this time, otherwise why would a guy with a cheque be standing outside of Bens truck, ready to rush in when derren won and present Ben with 175k... sometimes people get things wrong. that trick was extremely hard.

  • Yeah.

Life is life, people make mistakes.

  • if you think it was genuine the jokes on you, he got it one out deliberately, he never intended to win. the joke was that people thought he nearly got it by tapping his feet etc. he's having a laugh, if he got it people would say it was a fix, but one out and people think he really had a chance.

  • h wouldnt hve used that guys money i the acctual thing. He just showd that clip thing as a demonstration. and its not even him because hes banned from all casinos

  • from all uk casinos

  • he obviously lost on purpose. it's a trick that magicians do to add credibility . when derren was gonna predict the lottery, paul daniels said he should get one number wrong to make it more convincing. that's all he has done here. it makes you believe the other stunts were more genuine.

  • Yeah, people would think it was all a setup and that he was a fraud if every time he got it 100% perfect.

  • he didnt lose on purpose, he doesnt want to fail does he? and clearly by him being one out it shows how close he was.

and yes the win may well have been void once they found out he was filming but the whole point was for him to demonstrate that he could do it and if the casino took his money back afterwards, channel 4 wouldve subsidised it for the guy.

and of course they had the cheque ready for when he won it

some people need to stop trying to be so clever, he simply got it wrong this time

  • Just a thought. Is it possible that Derren Brown could've actually lost on purpose because if you think about it... Derren is actually banned from all casinos in the world. If he won that money, despite his good intentions, him and channel 4 would have been facing the high possibility of a very expensive law suit.

  • Good point.

  • thanks for uploading
