  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! I have been looking for this everywhere until I thought 'maybe... just maybe... someone uploaded it to youtube'

    THANK YOU :D

  • I Susan a time lord?

  • @amasingfatass yes but she only has one heart.

  • @amasingfatass yes, but how she fits into the story is often debated. Some argue that she wasn't really even the doctor's grandaughter. People keep expecting her to return to the series, regenerated and answering questions, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

  • @FishWRabies Thanks

  • @FishWRabies Yeah it wouldn't really make sense for her to return to the series, all the time lords died in the war. That includes her.

  • @Gman308877 wasn't she living on earth in 2164+?

  • @FishWRabies Well she was a time traveler :/

But yeah, it's pretty unlikely she survived the Time War. In "The Empty Child" the 9th Doctor kind of makes a reference that implies he lost her in the war.

  • @Gman308877 You're right. But that implies that the Doctor brought her back to Gallifrey at some point.

  • @FishWRabies I'm guessing he did, the 9th Doctor's comment in that episode strongly implied that he knew she was dead.

The doctor at the hospital said something along the lines of "I used to be a father and a grandfather, then the war came and now I'm neither but I'm still a doctor" and the Doctor says "I know the feeling".

  • @Gman308877 well then he probably did. I'm hoping Moffat answers some questions. He does like classic series callbacks, and the 11th doctor has been uncomfortable to the question "Do you have children" twice. But, like I said before, I wouldn't hold my breath.

  • Finally! The First episode of Doctor Who! The oldest episode of Doctor Who I've seen is the first episode with the tenth Doctor in it. Thanks for posting this!!!

  • Does anyone else think Susan is hot?

  • Bowties were cool even in 1963.

  • Thank you for posting these! Sadly, i've just recently come into an appreciation for the doctor and knowing i have more than 900 years of catching up to do it's proven to be a bit difficult without a TARDIS of my own (or find all the episodes in stores for... and the prices they want for one disc!!!). Thanks again!!

  • Whoever disliked this is not from Gallifrey. lol (and is a moron)

  • If you want to watch classic series, start from 5th, he's the most easy to love from classic Doctors.

  • The end of this newest season tore my heart out and put it back in after the commercial break. xD

  • Carole Ann Ford was hot.

  • Bah. The first question was "Not gone yet?" asked by Ian to Barbara.

  • 00:15--The oldest question, the first question: Doctor Who?

  • the quality is AWSOME. ty!

  • Well, good for me I started watching Doctor Who when I was 7, and am still watching 20 years later, (until the BBC cut off our connection in 1995 :( but it's good I get to watch it again, the classics, and am enjoying series "6".

  • It's always nice to see the tardis ! :)

  • I'm so glad they kept the theme song pretty much the same. A little different but the same basic sounds

  • Ian: "Oh you got the address wrong."

Barbra: "I got it from the secretary."

Ian: "Well then the secretary got it wrong. You know how you women get."

  • How fucking awesome is this, wow. <3 I've only started to watch Doctor Who (from Eccleston to Smith) in the past year (whyyy didn't I start sooner, it is AMAZING), and I've become such a fan, so I rly want to watch the classics now. So. Excited.

  • I always thought Susan was creepy.

  • Oh my god. that opening sequence and first few seconds when we see the TARDIS. it was so epic and treated with such reverence it was almost like they KNEW they were making something to last the ages

  • Thank you SO much for posting this! Been looking everywhere for it :P it didn't even occur to me that it would be here!

  • hey um do you know how i can get to the first episode ever?

  • @MnSStudio23 You are looking at it.

  • The awkward moment when your student's grandfather is the Doctor.

  • I kinda wish the theme song didn't end sometimes :D

  • this is the first of 778 episodes

  • Seriously, if you're new to Who, start with Eccleson(9th Doctor). You need to start there and work your way up if you're going to understand who's important to the current Doctor Who storyline(Rose, River, etc.). THEN come back and go from the beginning.

  • I'd start with Eccleson if your new to Doctor Who. Then once your addicted go back and start with the first Doctor.

  • i actually looked at the update date to know when this was made...

  • first episode ever?

  • And so it begins.

  • I think they should do remakes of these old episodes.

  • Thank you so much *-*

  • there's so much magic in this very first episode ,1963! the beatles! the profumo scandal! Kennedy! and in glorious black and white ,if you dont' like this your not a romantic Dr Who fan

  • 8:16, did she almost forget her line?

  • 0:50 I wonder how he felt to be the first ever person to appear on Doctor Who.

  • subscribing from Spain, even through english isn´t my first language!

I had heard about doctor who, but never saw it until a certain channel here passed the last chapters(David Tennant is awesome!)

Now I´m a devotee of the doctor, and have come here searching

thanks for sharing mister...or miss...or whatever could you be ;)

  • I know there's only two dislikes but that's outrageous, this it the very first Dr.who episode ever! Even if you didn't enjoy it that much, still give it the small courtesy of a like because of it's classic-ness. So YEAH!

  • anyone else think its odd there passing a 23 year old as a 15 year old girl? yeah sure she does alright but thats a huge age gap and no girl in my school at 15 looked like that

  • @caonum twas the sixties. No one really noticed back then, since most movies had women over 20 playing girls as young as 14 or 13.

  • Thank you so much for posting :) I am so excited to finally see the original Doctor!

  • FINALLY! IM gonna start watching it from the 1st series! @_@ ..hello, many years to come filled with doctor who!

  • Rum-bum-bum

    Rum-bum-bum

    Rum-bum-bum

    Rum-bum

    BUM-BUM-BUM!

  • 6:05 funny how that sentence from a grown man to a young girl sends alarm bells ringing these days.

  • love doctor who, but now that i've become obbsessed with the new series i don't find the old one as enjoyable :|

  • @Silversumire Same here! I thought that the old one was really cheesy.

  • Anyone else find it funny that in the very first episode, they start talking about a guy named John Smith?

  • @aquagrl63 I KNOW, RIGHT!

  • i feel like me and susan have a connection - we both have teachers who can't mind their own bees wax!

  • Heh. Doctor Who actually predicted the future.

  • I started watching the old series , and i think i'm in love with Susan :)) , she's so lovely and cute

  • Go to sidereel.com they have all the episodes

  • The Opening:: Legit 60's Trippy-ness.

  • its also hard to follow because some early episodes were lost

  • The early Doctor Who's are really annoying to follow. For Every Doctor, there are (x) amount of Seasons, for every Season there are (x) amount of Serials and for every Serial, there are (x) amount of episodes... very confusing :P...

  • In This Clip, From 0:00 To 2:20, It Was "Doctor Who" Video Open From November 23, 1963.

  • thanks so much for the upload! i have been looking for this forever!!!

  • There are 20 shillings in a pound. Of course, they WERE on the decimal system. Just not YET. (cue spooky music)

  • 2 people are members of the Master Race.

  • I love this episode! I've only seen it 3 times so far. Last time I tried to watch it here on You Tube half of it was gone! :( I should just go buy it. Saw it today "The Beginning Collection" for $20! Thanks for putting it up!

  • I promsied myself I would just stick with the revived series but im about six minutes in and i intend on watching from the 1st to the 8th doctor when i get the time

  • Using this to, 'school' a friend whose only seen the (ugh) new stuff.

    Thanks for the post, clubgallifrey2010!

  • When was this aired?

  • This is different than the copy I have. Different camera angles, different movements. Did they recut the episode? For example, on the one I've seen Susan doesn't stand when mentioning the decimal system. When she is dancing it is at a different angle and the teachers stand there watching her for a few moments before they speak, when the teachers leave, instead of messing with the paper and ink she opens the book to look through it and says "That's not right"

  • @Alemond I think, because so much of the early Doctor Who episodes are missing, or destroyed that they tried to recreate some of the missing episodes with leftover footage from the same shoots.

  • @Alemond This is what became known as the'pilot episode'. It was never aired on BBC TV, and it differs in many minor details from the original that was broadcast in Nov 23 1963, although the basic details are the same. There is only one half the original now left on YouTube as the BBC removed all the others.

  • "the fog's getting thicker"

    AND LEON'S GETTING LARRRRRRGGGER!

  • It's amazing that no matter when this episode aired, the theme music still makes my heart leap.

  • i will like to watch doctor who but i don know where to start. Should i start from the begening from this verry episode or can i start from another point of the series?

  • @kunh19 Oh, you just have to watch it from the start to enjoy the beauty of it all!

  • @kunh19 The BBC had an annoying habit of wiping old tapes, so the first few seasons of Dr. Who are kinda patchy.

Personally I started with the newest version of the series, starting with the 9th doctor. Very good stuff.

Watching through again right now, as a matter of fact.

  • @kunh19 I would say from the very beginning...I jumped around watching 10 9 11 then 1 and I couldn't get through the episodes at first because of how different a doctor hartnell is from tennant and I didn't like him but going back to the episodes with a clear mind I found I really enjoyed willy and realized what a marvelous job he did bringing the doctor to life

  • @kunh19 well the new series is also a good start... that's were I started, it just makes these episodes magical and retro (in the good way).

  • @kunh19 Entirely up to you. Its impossible to watch them all as some were destroyed. These ones give a good start and then Tom Baker and then the 1996 film. Thats what I did. But I suppose its a matter of finding your favorite doctors.

  • @kunh19 You can start from anywhere and then come back, I started in the 2006 series and I really like that start, with David Tennant and the episode Girl in the Fireplace. I jumped out around a lot but have enjoyed it all!

  • You don't have to start from the very beginning, and considering how many years this show has been running it's probably a good idea not to even try. Really you can start at pretty much any point.

  • @kunh19 I will advice you start with ROSE...u know like 2005 with Christopher Eccleston as the doctor. Then time and again, you can blend one of these old episodes with it. Starting with 2005 ROSE will help you to really understand it because you will find it hard to start from the very start (this very episode)....Doctor who is great and as for me I started with ROSE with christopher eccleston as the doctor and then when I dont have any episode to watch, I just blend these old episodes.

  • @kunh19 the reason why I said "start with ROSE" is because that is the start of the modern day Doctor who.....most modern doctor who fans started with the 2005 Christopher Eccleston ROSE episode, the first episode of the Doctor WHo since the 1996 TV special.

  • @kunh19 I'd suggest for a new fan, to watch the contemporary series that started in 2005, starring Christopher Eccleston (the Ninth Doctor). The first episode is titled "Rose". The main reason why I suggest the modern series is because the editing is much more palatable to the modern viewer than the stuff from the 60's 70's and 80's. The classic stuff is definitely great, but the stories tend to drag a bit, and some people can't get into the endearingly low-budget special effects.

  • @kunh19 I got into it by watching the first episode of the relaunch in 2005. That was specifically made for people not familiar with the Doctor Who mythos so I would also recommend finding the episode (called Rose) and starting there. I find that some of the older stuff is a bit too cheesy for my tastes and most people who like it liked it as a child and bring the nostalgia factor with them when they watch those episodes now...

  • @kunh19 I know this comment is a bit old, but a good point (and the one that most Whovians I know did) to start at is the 2005 revival series which starts at the 9th Doctor and currently has 5 and a half seasons. Seasons 1-5 are on Netflix, but at the end of season 5 there are some specials that are not in the line-up on the Doctor Who page. Hope this helps if you haven't watched it already!

  • @kunh19 I started half way at the tenth doctor with watching, and I'm now at the same episode as everyone; 'Eleventh Doctor - Lets kill Hitler'. But I understand everything, so it doesn't really matter where you start. If you just keep watching, everything will be explained. ;).

    Goodluck

    Xx

  • @kunh19 You should probably start with the Ninth Doctor. It will clue you in on how most of the show works. Then you could go back and watch the older episodes but I'd recommended also watching the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors' episodes beforehand.

  • @kunh19 I agree with @aquagrl63 about watching the 9th through 11th doctors, and then going back. that's what I'm doing and it's working well. :D

  • @kunh19 Also, a large chunk of the black and white episodes are missing. However, pretty much all the audio exists and someone photographed all the episodes, so fans made reconstructions that people can watch.

  • @kunh19 Start with the new incarnatiion of the series that came out in 2005. Start with The Shakespere Code. It's with Martha and the 10th Doctor. DAVID TENNANT FOREVER!!!!!

  • @kunh19 , I started with the current Eleventh Doctor.

  • @kunh19 Start from the more recent series... with Christopher Eccleston as the doctor, then go back to watch the old stuff... because it'd just take too long to catch up to watch the current series with Matt smith

  • @kunh19 do not start on the classic series you'll be bored start wit the revival of the series in 2005 then watch all those episodes then once your a big fan and only then do you start on the classic series

  • @thedoctoronfacebook SFdebris makes the same recommendation in Doctor Who 101.

  • @thedoctoronfacebook dude what are you talking about this shit is DOPE. and i'm not a connaiseur or anything

  • @phyzak no arguments there i'm just saying for nowadays viewees they like modern music color and storylines that coincede with ach other im not saying dont watch this watch it it's amazing but dont watch it before you watch the new series and fall in love with that

  • @thedoctoronfacebook I started with the classic series and I find it very intresting!

  • @Supercate92 well thats cool i myself would find the show boring at first if i started on the classics i started on the newer then went to the classics and everybody i know did the same so yeah thats pretty awesome if you started on the classics all doctor who is awesome

  • @thedoctoronfacebook Um, fuck you. Don't you dare diss Classic Who. You start with the original or you're not an actual fan, you moron.

  • @JujuJade i am not dissing the classics if you read all the other replies i said then you'd realize that i love classic who i think its amazing BUT in todays day and age people arent so impressed with the budget they had back then so i say start on the revival then watch the classics i never said dont watch the classics at all watch the classics there amazing and sometimes even better than the new stuff and dont dare ever say im not a fan! i love this show and i've seen almost every episode

  • @JujuJade So, wait, you are not a fan if you were not fortunate enough to watch the original? How does when a person is born determine what they can be a fan of?

  • @cutt1974 as in if you haven't watched Doctor Who before and you're of this day&age, you tend to have a much different idea of what is entertaining, so you'd be bored by the old serieses.

  • @kunh19 I'm starting with the new ones.

  • @kunh19 i know this is a little too late but starting from the tenth doctor was awesome for me :3 you can start from 9 and then rewatch the old ones ^^

  • @kunh19 if you want to watch the older ones start with this but if your going to watch the newer episiode start with the 2005 season

  • @mitchrosenbloom damn, dont wanna look like i'am trolling you, escpecially not on the first episode video. But that comment is 3 months old now and like 200 people have been awnsering the same question over and over and over again and all gave the same awnser. I think that "he or "she have been watching some of the episodes now,

  • @kunh19 If I was you I would start from the beginning of Tom Baker then do Peter Davison, then go back and do Jon Pertwee and then whatever.

  • @kunh19 I personally started in the reboot of the show, and watched all the episodes up to the present. Currently going back to the very beginning to see what else there could be about the Doctor that I don't know.

  • @kunh19 Pick a doctor and follow him.

  • @kunh19 You can start at the revival series if you want.

  • @kunh19 i agree with everyone else really you should watch from episode 1 An Unearhtly child but it is possible to get into the show from the 2005 episode Rose as this was made specifically to be a jumping on point for new viewers. the same can sorta be said for the 2010 episode The Eleventh hour. however, to understand the full beauty of the show start from episode 1

  • Where can I see all of the Doctor Who episodes? The only site that had all of them (since the 1st Doctor) is no longer available.

  • @minicaxotinho I'll be posting all I can up as soon as I find them.

  • @clubgallifrey2010 it's impossible to find them all

  • @clubgallifrey2010 I thought that many of them were lost forever; deleted by the BBC before anyone even had VCRs. Can you get them all? I would love to watch them all in order.

  • @minicaxotinho i know, bbc ruined that site... cant believe i hate the people who bring uss doctor who so much...

  • @minicaxotinho Another problem, as I'm sure you know, is the 108 missing episodes from the 27 incomplete serials of the First and Second Doctor's time. They can't be found anywhere, unfortunately.

  • I have found transcripts online from the missing episodes. They were taken from viewers' home audio recordings of the show.

The Doctor Who Scripts Project homepages.bw.edu/~jcurtis/Scripts/scripts_project.htm

  • @minicaxotinho try tv . blinkx . com

  • @minicaxotinho

    sidereel.com

search on doctor who when you get there, then chose if you want to see classic or episodes from 2005 and forward, then chose episode, then click on search links, then click on "direct link" Megavideo.

  • @Peyoutreaux Thanks

  • @minicaxotinho You're wellcome :P it is soooo AWSOME!

  • @minicaxotinho Theres also 108 missing episodes from the 60s, so technically it's impossible.

  • @minicaxotinho try daily motion for classic episodes or Watch doctor who.com for new episodes.

  • @minicaxotinho netflix has alot

  • THANK YOU FOR THIS <3

  • Amazing that they kept the basic theme for the entire series. Though I like this version best.

  • What a great theme tune, especially for the 1960's.

  • "Well, he's a doctor, inn't he?"

    Oh he's a doctor, alright...

  • when i get children someday i will let them know the legacy of DOCTOR WHO!!!!!!!!!

  • John Smith? hahahhahahah xD

  • Susan is pretty hot.

  • thanks for posting!!

  • i frekin love Susan

  • Comment removed

  • The first episode ever, and it feels just like the current series. :)

They outta bring Susan back one day, hopefully an older version played by the same actress.

  • @XxXLucozadeXLoverXxX isnt Susan a timelady,so if the character of Susan come back she can be played by another actress, since she could have been regenerated a fews times.

  • Am I the only one who thinks Susan is gorgeous?

  • @THEGREATMAX i think that zoe from partrick troughtan is hotter

  • @THEGREATMAX I'm with you on that one! She kind of reminds me of Sarah Silverman.

  • @THEGREATMAX Oh no. Of the 1st, she was by far the hottest.

  • @THEGREATMAX no, she's an elfin beauty

  • Comment removed

  • @THEGREATMAX No, my friend, you are not alone in your thoughts. Even Daleks would want to "exterminate" her.

  • Very good quality - thankyou for this!!!:)

  • I love this episode!!

  • omfreakinggosh!!!! it's so old!!!! <3 DOCTOR WHO!!!

  • ....and lastly Susans tie in to Who was largely forgotten once the producers decided they wanted to disuade people from associating sex with Who and the fact he was a sexual being or once had been to get a grand daughter but if she is indeed what became known as the timelords who lived for hundreds of years then she is infact not 15 but maybe 100 years old

  • ...other thigns to note are she asks for a book on the french revolution because later on they all become involved in the freench revolution so shes checking to see if theyre presence and events have altered time. Its also interesing to note that the Doc in recent years is shown to be able to read a book in two seconds flat simply by flipping pages so Susan must be a well slow reader if she needs a whole night lol

  • I use to have this on video but I got rid with the DVD revolution. if people are interested the events in this are suppoesdly explained by the events in Rememberance of the Daleks where the 7th Doc and Ace return to this school. I'm not sure but Susans hexagonal shape is very much like the dalek ship that lands in Rememberance of the daleks so possibly shes thinking about what her and the Doc are there for, which turns out to be to hide something so the daleks cant get it.

  • i love doctor who and will not be bothered about these monochrome monsters

  • ...right, because following your students home without their knowing isn't creepy at all.

  • Thanks for posting this! its great to be able to watch the classic episodes.

  • She's not an unearthly alien, she's Jewish - WTF? I guess in post-war England that was close enough - ?

  • john smith lol

  • Well I think Anthony Coburn would be feeling pretty pleased with himself. Look what he started! :D

  • I'm just gonna watch it from the beginning. I learned to like The Doctor's 9th, 10th & 11th version. It's time to know about 1st to 8th.

  • @worldends08 You just look like me. Because I stated getting the 9th and 10th Doctor Who DVD's. I watched them . And I told myself I need to start over by scratch getting all the DVD's of 1st threw 8th Doctor Who. To watch and listen to the whole story of them. And then I gotten the 11th Doctor Who DVD. That's what I've been doing getting these DVD's. That's what I've been a real Doctor Who fan ever since in the 90's that's what I saw Tom Baker ones also.

  • @worldends08 I assume that's why most of us are here, lol. I'm with you.

  • Doctor Who started at 5:15pm on BBC1 and then rhis episode got remade and aired on BBC2 in 1991

  • @DWFA100 Technically, what you've said is incorrect. The episode which I have uploaded was made first as a pilot episode, and because the producers didn't think it was good enough, they decided to change it. This upload was the one broadcast in the '90s.

  • @DWFA100 which one was the very first? is this one? I have been hunting.... BBC Dr Who isn't airing here, neither is Being Human or the fall and rise of reginald perin...oove them!

  • @igormishap Reginald Perrin is all uploaded here on Youtube, yes this is the very first dr Who episide ever and the original numero uno Doc, no leather jeckets, converse sneakers or glib trendy language, the proper Doc.

  • @DWFA100 love it
