  • I was only 5 when this all happened, but I remember asking my dad 'what time is it'? and him replying 'only lunchtime'. I didn't believe him.

  • its spinny to think that this was filmed at about 1 oclock in the afternoon

  • My Dad is a contract fire fighter for Transfield out of HMAS Cerberus on the Mornington peninsular, VIC and even they were on standby for this. All the way down there.

  • i love watching videos like this, its great to see what ill probably doing once i pass my assessment day

  • what happens at 4:26? is it the heat of the fire?

  • yes your right thats how intense the heat is from the fire even through insulated glass it has a real sting about it an if they where exposed to it for a few more seconds the vechile would have started to catch fire an suffer burns through the glass, Ive fought simular fires in the bush. I cant imaging how devestating it would be to witness first hand an entire suburb go like that, the fire chief to keep is mind on task in such an event is pure professionalism at its finest

  • Hail to all people who placed their lives on the front lines to put out all the fires...unfortunately this is one of nature's ways of renewing it self,so there will be collateral damage done....it doesn't help that we have 2 legged fire bugs walking around either

  • true heros

  • Wow this looks like the apocalypse or some shit

  • Christ, I remember riding through the Farrer ridge national park a few days after this. Black and White, the whole forest.

  • When he was passing those engines at 1:40 I knew it was a matter of time before something bad happened. It looked like they were in hell. You can only do so much, and your engine can only take so much. Comes a point when you gotta pack it up and run. You'd need an act of god to put that fire out WOW. They have serious balls though. Though, looking at it though (I'm crazy) I'd stand out there with them trying to defend the houses.

  • At 0105 in this video was when my great auntie Dolly passed away horribly in the flames when it crossed Eucumbene drive into the settlement, Rest in peace Auntie Dolly, you were always very lovely to me and you made me the best home grown tomato sandwiches i have ever eaten. also at this time All of my neighbours/ many friends lost their homes and were in great danger. I was at Uriarra trying to battle the blaze to save our homes with no effect. We all lost so much. I will never forget this day.

  • 2003..... The same year the Cedar fire burned in San Diego County (my hometown).

This bushfire of Canberra was the worst in Australia.

  • this video brings up raw emotions as they are heading down warragamba dr 2 the left is the pine forest where the Stromlo Forestry Settlement was i lived in there & luckily got out moments b4 the fire roared through the pines My entire house burnt to the ground in minutes 1 of my neighbours died in Stromlo Im so greatful 4 this film it shows a brief climps of the hell that was that day Thank u 2 all those fire fighters & residents who went into action & saved as many homes & lives as they could

  • where do you get a copy of this in full

  • is this during the day or night? cuz i can't tell of the light is from the fire or sky very brave and intense work

  • during the day. Most of this would have been around 1:00pm-4:00pm

  • Thanks for posting this.

Thanks also to those that looked after us in Canberra that day and to those that backed up recently and went to help in Victoria.

Paid or unpaid..... If you put on the suit, jump in a truck and risk your ass to fight a fire to protect other people and/or their property...You are all absolute heroes in my book !!!

    THANK YOU !!

  • i remember this day. so freaky. we tried going to the pool where it was still relativly safe, but it was closed due to the water being used for the fires. the fires started on the opposite side of canberra from where we lived and they still managed to get 2 km's from our house. lucky the wind direction changed. When you looked up into the sky all you could see was black, with the large ball of fire imprinted in the sky. very strange and scary sight to see.

  • Hard to believe that was mid-afternoon...

  • That was an incredible amount of fire and it was everywhere. I dont see how the rig ran through some of those fire areas without stalling because the fire must have been sucking up all the oxygen. Anyway, thanks for posting this so we could see what it really was like.

  • I'm so sorry for all of you, that have lost Life or houses, pets and ya what ever,it's so horrible to watch, and ya thank GOD for all those brave people, that almost died helping others from there pain.Sad sad stuff, but also very important to watch, because of the Huge amount of help from brothers and sisters in the fight for a save life for every one

Please believe in the Hope for a better future, because that's not burned by the fire, but could be lost in the horrible situation

    Love

    Flagmo-T

  • This is probably the craziest thing I've ever seen on YouTube! Balls of steel indeed...

  • these guys have serious balls! theyre the bravest men and women alive! they put their lives on risk, unbelievable

  • I can't help feeling sick that they left the dog inside.

  • @ProlongedSunlight

She had to make a decision. The dog's instincts killed it; at the same time, what are you to do? I'd save the dog, cat, sheep or goat if I could; still, people first. If I were in a crew sent in there with no guarantee I'd be saying WTF; So would anyone. Remember- if the dog came, they would have taken him as well.
