That was an interesting documentary, thanks for uploading. My gut feeling is that his first contacts were real, but he later became corrupted (ego, power, saw himself as a prophet or some other reason) and the visits stopped. I also think his later notes (on what they told him) were coming from his own head, but I honestly don't think he made the full story up. Just my thoughts on the case, but I could be wrong.

UFOs are real, but this is hoax. But well done propaganda and the art of professional lying at its best. btw: he is not a swiss farmer. What kind of crop or cattle did he grow? Ha,ha,ha,ha. He went to the swiss mountains from USA a few years before his "contacts". And since long he is the leader of a strange religious cult. Ha,ha,ha,ha. No UFO scientist would take Billy "Hoax" Meier serious.
