women's rights abuses must not be looked at as an Arab problem, or a Muslim problem or an African problem or an Asian Problem or a Christian problem- it is a GLOBAL problem. When one woman suffers in one part of the world, all women suffer.
The underlying law of nature may be the world's most useful, profitable and encouraging knowledge.
e.g., It is the most effective and efficient means to improve the performance of any process.
Great personal, economic and societal advantages exist to identifying the underlying law of nature first hand, for oneself, and to understanding and applying its principles.
Japan is the second most powerful economy in the world; it has a HUGE gender gap. True enough, many women in Japan are in the work force, but they get crap pay, and, American women complain about the glass ceiling?
Good luck finding women in corporate boardrooms over there.
Food for thought; gender gaps have nothign to do with a country's economy, when you consider Japan. Let me guess though; "comment pending approval."
I want to warn you about a trap women in the US have fallen into. That is the idea that it's good to work full time and raise children.
It's enough to kill a person. You can be politically active, raise children, take care of a household, and work 40 to 60 hours per week as most women in the US do. It really sucks.
It might be better to plan for political activism while children are young and aim for the career later.
Trying to do it all has been the biggest mistake of my life.
does it imply that man and women are exactly the same and do exactly the same
you play with fire if you think so, Islam is the most advance social structure in the world where equality is not judged as similarity unlike in the west
Islam recognizes the participation of women in the socio eco political scenario but deals with individuals as having a specific roles all these areas, were they are capable of balancing all their duties properly unlike the west.
I'm a westerner and while I agree that men and women are indeed fundamentally different in their natures, I can't justify *restricting* either gender into "specific roles", if that's what you are advocating. If a woman is capable of performing any given job, she should be free to and be paid the same amount as a man as well.
due to capitalism, industrialization, globalization, etc. women are definitely a resource. women have been subjected to becoming breeders & consumers but, they're also producers of various forms of labor. for example, i do research on sex trafficking. these women are DEFINITELY being used as a resource...it's sad but, true. =/
As a msulim man, I am so pleased to hear you talking about closing the gaps and building bridges between east and west communities. I do believe that there's still a long way to go but thanks to people like you, stereotypes can be broken down. Now, when people refer to the arab world, talking about women with their usual opinion, I just want them to see what arab women are doing now, especially on youtube because that's historic: there's a new day for women, towards equality.
just like u i am an pakistani american muslim woman and amazed to see u and ur work it's just absloutely stunning, and a huge motivator to see what women and specially muslim women can do.... u and the queen rania are the proof of the change.....ur work gave me a new direction....huge impact to what can be achieved......
they have a set of parameters (like access to health care, education, literacy but also completion of education of primary, secondary, tertiarys degree, employment, legal equality etc), collect information (or rather draw on information by international organsiations like ILO, WHO etc) and estimate the degree of completion on each parameter, calculating overall closure of the gap between women and men in education, public life etc.
Reports on the gender gap will give details I guess.
I live in Sweden and as you said we have not got very big gaps, however women still get paid less than men for the same work and we still have to continue to make this country equal.
When I was in Pakistan I was surprised to see very big contrast between women, some very modern, independent and equal but some with a very long way to go. I think that the solution is both education, but also overthrowing some tradition that keeps the mentality the way it's been for a very long time.
Sweetie, this "global speak" is a facade for "global citizenship" or "world order".

Gender gap? There is none. Men have brawn, women have brains. This is a fact. If everyone works together, the gap will close period

Extremely interesting. However, how do you define "gender gap". I mean, when you talk about 40% or 80% what does it really mean?
