  • great clip, reminded me of playing it when it came out in the 80s there was a little window in the side of the machine where you could look in and see the massive 12 inch disc ;]

  • I can hear Space Ace in the background!

  • and no the game was never forgotten you fool ,it has been ported to every system every made , they just cam out with a ds version this year infact ,and it is great,

it was supposed to have voice control ,but as far as i know it didnt make it in to the final version ,unless you have to beat the game to unlock it or something, but the ds version is exactly like the arcard version ,& it is tiny, its like one tenth the size of other ds games

  • i can not figure out what you need to do beat the original game on the daphne emulator

the levels seem to just keep on repeating indefinitly, do you need a certain score or something?i used to have the 3do version ,i liked that one cause the levels went in a certain order and you only had to play them once, with the arcade ,the levels are in random order and you could end up playing the same level 12 times,i cant figure out how to beat the arcade vewrsion

  • no the game was NOT made by disney animators ,it has nothing to do with disney, it was made by don bluth ,the same guy that made the animated movie "the secret of nimh"back in the 80's ,not disney,if you want to play this on a pc you need to download the daphne emulator it can emulate many laserdisc games, like this one and space ace and dragons lair 2, ,but it is a pain in the ass to set up,and get working, you need to configure the frame flle and its a bitch

  • the grunts were hilarious

  • Brilliant scene painters!

  • i heard "space ace" in the backround

  • i find it funny that although it is cartoonic, there are so many ways to die. XD

  • Thumbs up if you heard Kimberly's "GET ME OUT OF HERE!" from Space Ace at 0:50 !

  • Great graphics and such for its time but God it was unplayable. What awful gameplay!

  • @huxleypig69 yeah i could never get very far

  • try the gamecube version it is much more fun real cool game

  • lmao I just seen the family guy scene when peter is in dragon lair, on the floating horse, dodging the fire, and hits a wall :P Wierd finding the same scene in this video

  • Ah, what a money sink that was. But it was a good money sink, for sure.

  • LOL I looked this up after I saw it on family guy.

  • 1:39 Ouch!

  • this was a shite of a game when i was a kid and its still a shite of video to watch nearly 30 years later

  • This machine must have been modified to retrieve the video from a hard disk. The game originally had long blackout periods when the laser disk had to do a seek. However, back in '83, hard disks were too expensive and computers didn't have the power to render full-motion video, so controlling a laser disk was all they could do back then.

  • @jeopardy60611

    no it is from laserdisc

If you watch the video you can see the blackout during seek time, some short some long depending on how far it is from one scene to another.

  • WHEN I WAS A KID I NEVER LEART TO PLAY IT was so difficult

  • Ha, must have pumped about 500 bucks in this machine before I made it to the end. Great game. Easy once you memorized the joystick moves.

  • Google 'Daphne emulator'. I got this on 6 DVDs (it contained other laser disc games too)

My mate had to show me how to correctly install but after that I had Dragons Lair in my house withouit having to put a quid in each play :)

  • I remember being 12 or 13 and going to a friend's party at Chuckie Cheese (or something similar) back when Dragon Lair first came out. All of us kids wanted to play the game SO badly. Unfortunately, a couple of twenty-something losers put lines of tokens on top of the machine and monopolized it for the entire night.

  • Ah childhood... So many memories...! I loved this game!!

  • I was so disappointed when I put a quarter in this thing after waiting in line. I didn't know that you couldn't really control the guy like Mario. Maybe at home an RPB works, but in the arcade it SUCKED! I gave Mappy, Frogger, and Pole Position my quarters.

  • Man, I stunk at this game and wished I was good at it.

  • When this game out in 1983, it was the bomb!

  • they just put this on dsiware

  • I have this on my Iphone now.... exactly like the arcade from back in the day....

If you have an IPhone... get the game..

  • I can hear Time Warp and Space Ace in the background. How I wish I was there.

  • We all do, my friend.

  • there is a Blu Ray version of this that will play on a PS3 or any BluRay player. This game was ahead of its time....a little too ahead. by the time technology caught up with the game, it was almost forgotten

  • i completely agree. Another game like this in some ways, I used to play in the old "dream machine" arcades was a attack helicoptor called Cobra command. I think that was name it came out either a little before this and space ace.

  • Don't forget Cliff Hangers and Dragon's Lair 2.Space Ace was hard.

  • I seen in the back of one of the machine.

It has multi VHS cassettes. Im surprised they haven't done more with this technology.

  • WRONG!!!!!! it was played on a BIG 12 inch (or so ) disc put out and played on a disc player. your movements simply controlled the direction that the

" next "chapter took you too.

  • Wow. Sprites would have been much not-uglier. As a result, the action looks incredibly choppy.

  • so retarded

  • Seriously, it's spastic and looks unplayable.

  • Wow. Dirk looked pissed right before he died.

  • When I first played this arcade game, this was around 1992. I was impressed and thought it was impressive new technology. I was surprised later when I learned that the game came out in 1983! I would have never guessed it was that old. Oh, and also there was a space cowboy game that used 3D holograms, but I forgot the name.

  • yeah that hologram game is called Time Traveler. I have a video of it.

    watch?v=-lyTasMAYic

  • I can't remember if it was 50 cents or a dollar at my arcade, but I'm sure I saved a fortune and much grief by not giving in to temptation. Besides, it was entertaining enough watching other people play it instead.

  • I think a new version of this and Space Ace will be on PS3

  • You can get this on your computer now..in fact I had it a few years ago and there was a glitch in the game, and I did the wrong move on the last level 30 times and still never completed the game..wtf???

  • this is were they got the concept for heavyrain.

  • love the face at the end.... "Ahhh, shit!"

  • that game must have gotten at least six or seven dollars in tokens from me in my lifetime, and i never got past the first screen. and that was at 80's prices!! you prosper so hard for getting that far

  • controlling a cartoon must have been quite amazing back then

  • I can hear Space Ace in the background. Another great Laserdisc game.

  • OMG I dropped a small fortune into this arcade game when it first came out!!! It was the first of its kind and I was completely hooked. I actually got good and got to the end and saved Daphne. Good times!!! Thanks for the memories.

  • looks like a disney game

  • maybe that's because the people who made this game used to work for Disney.

  • its cuz its from former disney animator Don Bluth

  • @xenocide8 Actually it was made by Disney animators.

  • I was pretty bad at this game. That room with the tentacles in it always annoyed me. I don't ever remember successfully getting through it. I also hated that horse.

  • To hell with Daphne, check out my vid on this game. It works great, but I can't get it to work on a 64 bit platform.

  • since 1983

  • i clocked that game when i was 11,it must have cost me 1000s over the years lol & it was expencive @ 0.50 a pop.but it paid off when people would put $ in the game to watch me play.

  • This game has made a comeback in video arcades that have one of those mutli-game machines in it. I found one of those machines in my local Dave & Busters recently, and like an idiot I played Dragon's Lair. Sure enough, I was just as bad at it now as I was all those years ago. But did I let that stop me from spending two hours and a couple hundred credits from playing it?

    What do you think? *sigh*

  • In my neighborhood arcade " the gold mine" this was the first video game that cost $.50

  • This game was single-handedly responsible for taking half of my allowance between the ages of 10-13. It was amazingly hard. I mean, when the light was flashing halfway between the right and lower-right hand corner, which direction were you supposed to go? Up? To the Right? With only 3 lives, I eventually learned to watch other suckers play and save my money.

  • ah, takes me back. That game frustrated the hell out of me. The reaction timing was just a little off and that always bugged me.

  • Funny!!!

At 0:54 it's possible to hear in the background Kimberly screaming to Daxter:"Get me Out of Heeeeeere!!!!". =)

Dragon's Lair is one of the best game i ever played, thank you for this video.

    SMG

  • The worlds most frustrating arcade game.

  • This is so cool to see. I remember how fascinating it was to se this cabionet at Chuck E. Cheeses as a kid. You can even hear Space Ace in the background, making me think this is a really old vid of a vintage 80s arcade. Hearing that satisfying 'thunk' after you complete a successful move... really brings me back.

  • Hard to believe I used to be able to beat that game. I was around 16 or 17 at the time.

  • That was one of my all time favorites. I was the youngest kid to beat it where I lived. I watched at first for several trips to the arcade then started playing. I did not have coins to waste. I miss those old days where black lights were the illumination of choice. I could do without the cig smoke, but it was the times. Young guys drinking beer outside the local arcade on Friday trying to line up some fun for the night. Geesh, where is the flux capacitator? :>)

  • Thanks for the memories. Back then when I had plenty of time and no bills to pay I could max this out by just doing the sequences right up until killing the dragon. Then deliberate miss and start the level over, miss again, etc. until the last life when you can slay the dragon and get the lady.

The *real* problem is that the lady is worse than the dragon. But that's another story.

  • lol at 1:39!!!

  • Did pretty good for one hand. The Smithee room gets me all the time even with two.

  • we didnt even c the princesses ass u dum asses

  • If you work REALLY hard though you can beat the game a couple of times without even losing a life.

  • No princess is worth this lol.

  • not worthy this? WTF? that princess has nice ass. BAM!

  • Well I guess so, but that voice..... and hey look at how she's dressed! How is this an E rated game if Dirk dies horrible deaths or princesses arew skantily clad? I love this game, but think of the impact this could make on kids who imitate video games lol.

  • This game never was intended for kids but for all the people who went to the arcades in the 80's, most of whom were in his late teens and/or young adults or even adults, also no kid could pay one credit in this game, it was really expensive to play.

  • Yeah that's true. My disk has some sort of special feaure that mentjions it was made around the time of Secret of Nim or something and alot of people just seemed to go to the arcade instead. But I'm wondering what was the better use of oney? A REALLY hard for the first 20 times game, or a movie like that?

  • this was the first arcade game i ever played and I died in like 20 seconds.

  • Dirk had it so so rough....always had it so tough.

  • I always loved the little tune after Dirk makes it past the flaming ropes onto the platform (just barely)

My fav scene was the one with the pool that seems to have the most moves ya need to finish one scene and the spider was always cool

  • Is that the scene where you do a forward roll past the flying daggers? That was awesome.

  • yep that was it exactly. That scene has the most moves in the game to finish. I think its over 5

  • I remember that part. I always got a chuckle out of Dirk screaming when he sees the spider.

  • this game was ahead of its time, and it was hard as shit

  • Holly Shit!!!!

I remember I saw this game on a TV show called "That's Incredible" !!! I was shock then... hahahaha !!!

(Yeah, I'm pretty old now.. and still don't have that game.. )

  • Holly EATS Shit!!!!

  • pwned

  • i remember playin this when i was really really young (like 6)

man, now i really wanna play it lol

  • hehe its kinda fun to play this game, fun to see what happens

  • Does anyone know of an arcade in Michigan that has this game?

  • I'm hearing the game "Space Ace" in the background!!!

  • like the king of 25 cents it's almost like one would would like to see the ending of "Ultima" but there is no real ending...just a pass of youth hoping there would be. I admit endings are far fetched and small at times, but sometimes there ought to be one."Bionic Commando" had a great ending for me as a youth, way over "Strider" or "Karnov" for god's sake...even "Rygar"...I wanna know what happened to my quarters...did they all save the woman..or what? Final Fantasy 2 even tied the knot...

  • someone needs to find a full run thru. I doubt one exists. I haven't seen this game in damn decades and would just like to watch it rather than play it. Unless I had an original s'pose.

  • Why Not Just Get A Sega CD Emu,Bios,Rom And Just Put The Code In To See The Whole Game Without Playing?

  • Since I am not as savvy as you I would like to know how to do so...please do not make fun of me

since I am not as savvy as yourself. I do not wish to load my comp with unnecessary crud. If you have any links to such an option I would be greatfull. Also on a side track would you know how to find "River City Madness"? That old nes game? I'm in a fever for old school. ATM.

Since you respondid I would hope U could help...

    =)

    Carci/bryan

  • I will see if I can find my old coppy.

    =)

It might be to long for youtube to post a half decent quality movie of the entire thing...

  • lmao, if you have a copy of this that would rule...the full I mean. And there is some way to get past the limit cause I've seen enormously long posts on you tube.

  • I found my copy of Dragons layer DVD. I recorded the entire game, ending and all, minus all the levels that are mirrored because it would have been to long. Unfortunately, its not the greatest quality, but not bad. I am no pro..

Check it out if you like, its on my videos.

Hope you enjoy the movie..I mean arcade game..I mean cartoon..

    =)

  • bastards removed it for copywrite. how LAME.

  • Dragon's Lair DVD? Isn't that one played in sequences? Also, aren't you suppose to hit the button before you're suppose to on the DVD version?

  • I'll do it when I get Daphne to work.

  • I used to get about as far as that checkered floor room before i would die, practically every time. Sometimes i would die before that. I really sucked at Dragon's Lair, sadly. I haven't saw the game in almost 25 years. Thanx for sharing the memories.

  • bad player...

  • so sad a lot of people don't know about this game...i just saw a parody of it on robot Chicken and none of my friends got it...sad

  • That's always the difference between kids and yourself these days, they never shared the same experience and quite fankly don't give a shit considering the market does whatever it takes to cater everything in their interest.

  • uh?

  • so sad a lot of people don't know about this game...i just saw a parody of it on robot Chicken and none of my friends got it...sad

  • Dude thanks for the memories of this badass game. I dont even know if I wanna know how much money I put into DL back in the day.

  • This game was the Sh#T back in the day. Good times.

  • the game looks just like an animated movie how do u like control it

  • well you have to make correct moves. like for example at 0:23 during flying horse scene you have to move joystick left or right to make him go left or right or he will die in the fire or crash into the wall.

  • well you have to make correct moves. like for example at 0:23 during flying horse scene you have to move joystick left or right to make him go left or right or he will die in the fire or crash into the wall.

  • I remember this. it was SWEET

  • i remember playing this in a HUGE arcade i had NO idea how to play so i just mashed buttons and stuff and i got far some how

  • man this brings back memories. i remember draining my entire weeks worth of allowance into this game as a kid

  • omg i think i heard Space Ace in the background at 0:50

  • your face is so horrible it gave me aids

  • your balls are so horrible they gave me rummy bum.

  • Wow. What an unresponsive piece of shit that game was now looking back at it. You are a prick, too. Just answer questions. Kids nowadays don't do research. They want instant gratification. While I am not like that, if you have someone who likes your vid and asks questions on it, be glad and answer it you douchebag.

  • This game was awesome. I would go to the movies at Parmatown Mall in Parma, Ohio. They had about five video games in the concession area. If I got there early enough, I would watch people play this game. I coulnd never master this game, but it seemed cool as shit.

  • Where did you play this?

  • please read description before asking thank you.

  • No need to be an asshole. Geez.

  • I guess people are assholes if they answer questions and say thank you. He provided all information. Some people would rather get an instant answer than seek information for themselves.

  • There's so many pricks in the video game community! A bunch of elitest bastards quick to bash anyone whos asks questions! Im sure it was necessary for Sulhas and bossyman to double team gordo and nlitenment! Sorry he didn't read your nerdy description!

  • You, my friend have no idea. That is the way of the world sadly. Time to harden up bud.

  • you tried your best at least

  • WOW! That really brings back the memories! Thanks so much for filming it... I feel like a kid again! Great job!

  • good gameplay LOL I LOVE WHEN YOU PLAY DRAGONS LAIR and in the background i hearded "GET ME OUTA HERE" from space ace and more but thats the funniest

  • Dirk is hilarious

  • dude i was playing the game with only one hand because i had to hold the camera! FUCK OFF!

  • ROFL! No tripod? No film transfer technology? Apparently not, cuz I can't see or hear a blasted thing. Congratulations.

  • awesome. where did you find this game at??I remember it like it was yesterday. The graphics were awesome for that time.

  • this game was at arcade event called California extreme see info in Description

  • where did u find this

  • this game was at arcade event called California extreme see info in Description

  • Loved this game. Listen to the sounds of the arcade in the background! The sound of my 80's youth!

  • long long time ago.......amazing

  • che pariamiento!!!!

  • i remember playing this game at disneyquest years ago!

  • how did this game work? you just make descisions and it plays out in animation?

  • You hit a direction button every time it's neccesary. Thing is, they wouldn't tell you which one to hit and when so the only way to figure out the game was to play it and die over and over until you memorized the entire game and that was the only way to win. Pretty much.

  • When I asked for screenshots, I didn't mean to take pictures of the screen. LOL. Although, judging by the sounds in the background, you must have been playing the game in an arcade. So that's what the game looks like. Interesting. I assume the beeping is a cue for you to hit a button.

  • is that space ace i hear?! WORD!

  • yes that's space ace you heard

  • Oh shit where's this place? I can hear SpaceAce behind !!!

  • Is Dragon's Lair Full Motion Video?

  • yes it is full motion video

  • There's a sound clip in the background that sounds like it's from Bully.

  • Not bad for someone playing with one hand. The camera's pretty steady too. In fact, that's pretty amazing.

  • Awsome game i wish i could play.

  • I remember the game was like 2 quarters, lol!

  • That is awesome. If I could time travel, I'd go back to 1983 to play a DL arcade machine. Dragon's Lair is one of the most innovative and most important games in history

  • is that Space Ace I hear in the background?

     hehe..

  • yes space ace machine is right next to it.

  • you are my hero.

    Very cool game playing

  • Awesome stuff...I remember playing this back in the day. I like that you can hear "space ace" in the background...

  • My bad, man. This comment was meant for the following video posted by "bpbrother":

    Craptastic Games: Dragon's Lair (SNES/SegaCD/Amstrad)

Check it out if you have a chance, then you'll know what I mean.

  • This review rocks, man. Your commentary is fucking hilarious. No offense, but it sounds like a cross between William Hung and Arnold Schwartznegger narrating this film. Where are you from?

    Keep up the good work.

  • what are you talking about?

  • lucky bashtard, i never played Dragon's Lair on the arcade T_T

  • Ragazzi che bei ricordi! certo che era davvero difficile!!!

  • Question, if you press the button early before you really need to, will it still work, because, in the sega cd if you don't press the button at the EXACT time, you will die, and it's really annoying.

  • Dirk the Daring is the man

  • Cool ass fukcin vid by the way...

  • anyone who wants to talk shit about Don Bluth I suggest you check out The Secret of NIMH and An American Tail... I won't even mention all the shit he did with Disney

  • Anastasia was the Bluth film that really struck me in all the right places. One of my favorite parts has to be when Rasputin invades Anastasia's dreams and tries to beguile her into walking off the ship. The juxtaposition between the warm, loving dream and the cold, frightening reality she was in was masterfully depicted like only Bluth could. :-)

  • I dont understand how you play this game how do you controll it.

  • How the hell did you get THAT far?
