  • Glory, Hallelujah ... Glory to God in the highest !

  • I couldn't find lyrics that matched this version...someone help me?

  • Can't get much more "Yankee" than being a New Yorker...God bless this beautiful land.

  • And yet even though he/she told you not to, people still ignore Texpaco and decide to post Their views on something or other...

  • America was the most beautful country from our revolutionary war to WW2, then the gulf war started and our country is going down the drain with economic problems and the corruption of the government. I just keep wishing our country will be beautuful once more, GOD BLESS AMERICA, EVEN WITH OUR FAULTS I AM A PROUD AMERICAN!!

  • Found this after first watching Whitney Houston totally butchering it. Great rendition !

  • I live in the USA but was born in New Zealand. Yet this song makes me feel increibly patriotic towards the USA.

  • Very good arrangement of this classic but the part from 2:38-3:00 wasn't necessary. That's just MY opinion.

  • @isukaman I think it's more from 3:09-4:27

  • @isukaman I thought so too. But if this is a "marching song" type, than the more repetition the easier it would be for soldiers to remember.

  • interesting arrangement. mixed bag for me as I have sung this many times but I like the Robert Shaw Chorale

  • I love Robert Shaw's arrangement so much !!!

  • So long, Iraq!

  • Nothing better to get the hairs on your arms standing up. Especially when you think of the trials and tribulations that those brave souls endured during this time of war when brother was fighting brother!

God Bless America and may we wake up and realize that what we have is good and get back to personal responsibility and the Golden Rule!

  • Wonderful! I finally found a true version of this great song. I can't stand the "dolled up" politically correct Mormon version!!

  • To the people who complain:

It's a song. Don't get caught up in the lyrics of it. Get caught up in the beauty of it. The politics it refers to, eventually, slavery, and the death of John Brown, a man who advocated with a great passion the abolition of slavery. Yeah, he was controversial, but it's not about that. It's about a better life in this great country of ours and always being hopeful of the better times ahead.

  • When i was in Marine bootcamp we would sing this, it still brings chills to my spine when i hear this song.

  • My God! This is so beautiful! I have chills!!! Thank you!!

  • Gooooseeebymps?? Researchers would pay me to see em. I don't need better speakers ;p

  • From a Canadian - I'd like to say You wouldn't be anywhere without us being a great neighbour, but we in Canada would be nothing like we are without our great patriotic neighbours to the South.

God Bless All Americans, and God Bless your Wonderful Country!

I played America the Beautiful and Battle Hymn of the Republic on the Organ at Church during the processional to mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11

Through bad comes good though. Our two wonderful Nations became even closer than we ever were.

  • This great song is on the GREAT! cd "Battle Cry Of Freedom" Robert Shaw Chorale.

With out a doubt it is the best patriotic CD out their. Columbia, the Gem of the Ocean and the Service Songs Medley. Along with The Battle Cry Of Freedom are my favorites. Buy it you'll like it!

  • My church always sings this song around July 4th and 9/11. For some reason, during 9/11 it gives us...hope? That's the best way I can describe it. Some people give a quick testimonies about 9/11, and we're all sobbing. But then we sing this song and we cheer up.

I was 3 when 9/11 happened. I would turn 4 October 9th. I saw the second plane fly into the towers. I watched them fall. But it wasn't until I was about 6 or 7 that I would realize that it was attack on my country and people died.

  • AMERICA!!! FREEDOM!!!!

  • PLEASE NOTE! This video, as with all my videos, is posted for the beauty of the music itself and for that reason only. Those who are looking for a soapbox to expound their views or to debate about religion, race, politics or any other issue are reminded that there are several million other channels available on YouTube.

  • @texpaco Well said.

  • For those that wish to spark the debate of Religion and Politics are likely going to be pissing a long time. It is a never ending debate, and if you measure you research carefully it may seem that many forget 17 of the 33 members were Free Mason which believe in a version of a higher power beyond their own measures. It may not be founded on simply Christian values but that of a belief in mankind can pursue their own values and beliefs in a New World.

  • I'm a Yankee! Thanks for this!

  • seal team 6 will be back at full strengthby Saturday noon

  • seal team 6 will be back at full strengthby Sarurday noon

  • I'm in goosebumps city when i listen to this!

  • US bond rating lowered. 31 members of Seal Team 6 killed in helicopter crash in Afghanistan. I need to hear this song.

  • THIS SHOULD BE OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM, not that old British bar song that Congress decided in the 1920s to call our national anthem!!! This is soooooo American, and so monumental....

  • @hotboyclarence

Never going to happen. A lot of southerners would complain about it, because of the historical associations. And a lot of non-Christians would complain about all the Christian references in the lyrics.

  • @EuphrasieF A lot of people will complain about everything. The important thing is the majority is mature enough to tolerate the minority, even though they may not be willing to so the same

  • If you wanna read something awesome. Go to your web brouser and type in "Julia Ward Howe." She wrote this as a poem from the Civil War till it became the song "Battle hymn of the Republic."

  • this is absolutely beautiful. thank you for sharing it

  • I love being an American, makes me so proud to live in this great country

  • @REVBia

I know! and that's the best verse, damn it!

  • @freakyflow So true. btw i agree damn bruins... flyers fan :P they deserved to win though

  • Stunning! Totally gave me chills. Love the trumpet parts!

  • Whenever I hear these athiests and antheists rant about using God in the Pledge of Alliegence or God in our society and Government, I wish I could crank this song to drone out their embarassing ranting and raving. We live in a country by the grace of God! Let us honor him for it!

  • @ShawnC15 True the atheists whine about Christianity and smooth-talk up a storm, but their mealy-mouthed talk is drowned by the sound and passion and power of true FAITH IN GOD!! We musn't let their decadent ways ruin America any longer. The love and strength of the Christian Community will stamp out the filth and trash culture that has gripped this nation!

  • @Aresolar690 That an interesting interpretation considering the vast majority of the men who founded this country looked at religion with distrust and contempt. See: Establishment Clause of the Bill of Rights (the FIRST part of the First Amendment) "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" Seems like you slept through government in high school, or perhaps tried to understand but it went over your head.

  • @9873459872134234 the founding fathers didn't distrust or contempt religion, they distrusted unchecked power that religion can have.

  • @Aresolar690 we "smooth talk up a storm" because we are right, the old Judeo-Christian God is an outdated concept which is swiftly fading as humanity progresses, as it should. But that doesn't mean this song isn't awesome all the same.

  • @Aresolar690 What makes you think they're not on your side?

  • thank you to the USA Military and their families... God bless America!!!

  • CORNISH AND WELSH

  • one of my favorite songs and im glad they didn't change the lyric "as he died to make holy let us die to make men free" so many people want to say live but die makes so much more sense to me and many others im sure god bless the USA and those fighting for our rights! you're my true heros not some random celebrity Hallelujah

  • glory glory, man united! :D

  • A Gilbert, AZ High School pulled this song from their graduation ceremony because it was too religious. This country is going to shit. Our founding fathers are rolling over in their grave. We are One Nation under God.

  • @rynousa We are one nation under any god. The constitution never says anything putting christianity above other religions. Our founding fathers put "freedom of religion" in the constitution for a reason.

  • @DictatorDan13 and the freedom of having no religion is also apparent.

  • @godzilla74114 If you're referring to me, I'm a proud Catholic. If you're referring to the constitution then yes, one can choose to practice or not practice any religion and should be safe from being forced to practice a religion that is not their own.

  • @DictatorDan13 I agree totally with your statement concerning ''freedom of religion''.Conversely,I am chagrined thta certain legal groups utilize their versions,or viewpoints of the law, wrap it in legalese and utilize current statutes as a cudgel,so to speak,to deny some groups the right to practice their respective religious faiths....EVERYONE has the right to participate or not participate,as their conscience dictates

  • @rynousa Thanj yu for sharing that. I live in Surprise and do no listen to the news that pertains to that. I think that we nave to make them listen regardless.

  • @rynousa

god is a rather subjective thing, like arbaic speaking chirstians they call the chirsitan god Allah, because in their tounge Allah means God. Its Subjective

  • thank you to all the service men who served our great country. and thank you to those who still show their love and respect for the America. <3 greetings from the USA

  • With this being Memorial Day this song sings vulumes. All I can say is THANK YOU to all the servicemen and woman. Thank you for your service.

  • I love being called a Yankee. Makes me damn proud. God bless the USA

  • @Frostbite720 You may be a Yankee sir and I may be a Confederate but that conflict was 150 years ago. Today I am proud to be a Virginian and proud to be an American. I love this song, even if it was on the wrong side for me.

  • @Frostbite720 I would like to thank my Great Great Grandfather John c. Noll Minnesota 1st

  • @Frostbite720 i thinks its funny when people from the deap south call me a yanke becaus then i can point out who won the civil war

  • God bless those who have died in the wars throughout the ages.

  • usually you'd see the comments section of US patriotic songs full of hate speeches about the US. im supprised that there's not only little to none of that, but positive comments from people from other countries. Its nice to know we're not hated by everyone.

  • I'm not religious in the slightest, but this is definitely my favorite of my country's patriotic songs. Goosebumps, indeed.

  • love this.

  • Nect to the Mormon Tabernacle's Wilhowsky arrangement, this is my favorite.

  • so i`m not one to get emotional over songs...BUT this one i was gonna cry litterally Oh My God.

  • "I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel: 'As ye deal with my contemners, so with you my grace shall deal; Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel, Since God is marching on.'"

  • @ShoMusical9999 It's a shame that verse isn't used in this version and if it is then I am angry at myself for zoning out each time it occurs -_- because those are brilliant lyrics! I love it :D

  • Beautiful pictures! Glorious song! Where were the pictures taken?

  • Hey yanks , this is bloody magnificent, soul stirring, from a proud aussie.

  • And me too, so much ... from France

  • This makes one stick their chest out and swell with pride.. It was, both, an ugly, and, at the same time, gallant and magnificent page in our history..

  • 8 people don't have loud enough speakers. To the point, this is the greatest song of all time, it captures the American spirit. Gives me the chills every time I listen to it.

  • We haven't been around long enough to amass a large collection of rousing military songs, but this is definitely one.

  • You don't have to like the U.S. ( which i know a lot of people don't) but you gotta love this song

  • This certainly does gives me chills! Wow!!!!

  • Just Ecellent, thanks!!

  • Robert Shaw was a great choral director. He could somehow improve the sound

    of any choir.

My grandfather did not fight in the Civil War, but he was born during it.

One of his daughters is still alive (in her 90s). So in 2 lifetimes we can

    reach back to Lincoln's time.

Julia Ward Howe was still alive when my father was young. History

is, at least sometimes, just around the corner.

  • @rockgor And, you, my friend, are fortunate enough to live it.. As Lincoln said, "We cannot escape HISTORY.."

  • Fantastic song.

    Great Britain

  • God bless America! What a stirring song, the World's a better place because of our American cousins.

    Terry, United Kingdom.

  • @terryirv Thank-you!!!! On behalf of the people of the United States, I salute you,and all the great people in the United Kingdom! Long may we be friends! God Bless America, and God Save the Queen!!!!!

  • @MPP316 True that man, right on!!!

  • As he died to make men holy, let us die to make men free.

  • 7 People jizzed in their pants and missed the like button.

  • I absolutely love this song!

  • Makes sense, I cant say my lifestyle has much in common with New York or the South. Ppl forget how big America is and how different each region can be.

  • WOW he is so missed.. and lives on in the many arrangments and concerts here on youtube. Atlanta was blessed to have such a great man.

    RIP - Robert Shaw (April 30, 1916 – January 25, 1999)

  • After 9/11 we sang this at my Church in Canada. I was only 13 and had no idea that this was an american patriotic song. I do remember seeing a lot of people crying though. I also remember thinking this was the coolest song i ever heard at church. Usually nobody got into it with songs but not that day. To all Americans: you guys are well liked North of the border trust me.

  • @charles597 and Canada is always ok with U.S.

  • @charles597

I can't speak for all of America, but Canadians are well liked here in Upstate California. I feel more connected to you guys than to the east coast or the south.

  • @charles597 really? i thought we r just liked cuz we border each other

  • @charles597 thanks u canadians are liked south of the border a little bit

  • @DrAggie58 A "little" bit? Hey! Go find a better "next door neighbor" anywhere on this planet! They don't always agree with "us', but "WE" don't agree with each other! Whether we choose to "agree" or not; Canada ROCKS!

I wouldn't want ANYONE else on our border!

    Unapologetically,

    FROM THE USA!

  • @charles597 Go Canada and GO AMERICA!!

  • @peteyfuntime Brothers and Sisters FOREVER!

  • @charles597 But they always leave out the fourth verse:

I have read a fiery gospel

Writ in burnished rows of steel.

As ye deal with my condemnors

So with you my grace shall deal.

Let the hero born of woman

Crush the serpent with his heel!

    Our God is marching on!

  • @REVBia Check-out "World War ll America (Battle Hymn Of The Republic") on You Tube and you'll hear that verse at the 1:36 mark.

  • @REVBia The 5th verse is also left out: He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave, He is wisdom to the mighty, He is honor to the brave; So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of wrong His slave, Our God is marching on!

  • @bluebelly07 Hey! Where can I find a version with that verse included?

  • @onehappydogg I honestly don't know, I've seen it in Methodist Hymnals and kind of memorized it. Powerful and stirring music, isn't it? If I find one, I will let you know...

  • @charles597 It's not really so much an American patriotic song. It's a hymn that was adopted by the Union Army during the Civil War and so the name sounds patriotic. It's much more an anti-slavery anthem.

  • @charles597 Thanks!! We like you all as well. Birmingham AL Paramedic

  • @charles597 Thank you

  • @charles597 Feelings reciprocated!

  • The French national anthem, La Marseillaise, has been compared to The Battle Hymn Of The Republic. But there are no words in La Marseillaise that can compare to "He has sounded forth the trumpet that will never call retreat". Wow!

  • damn this song gives me chills

  • My grandmother chose this as the final song played at her funeral. She loved America and I was honored to carry her body to its final resting place. She was a servant of God first and a true blue first generation American. I miss you Gram Terry and appreciate everything you did to keep our family together. I know God has welcomed you to His warm embrace.

  • @diablosportscreme That is a beautiful testimonial to your grandmother. God Bless You.

  • its the song of the north

  • Love this Song

    - From the State of Texas

  • I love this song!

It just makes me proud to be who I am!

If there are two songs that sum me up in a nutshell: they are the Air Force song and this.

  • what a song!!!! thank u jesus!

  • I want to take this time in my life to say THANK YOU America in particular to the Veterans, of whom there are not many left. My country, Canada and our mother country Great Britain were doing all we could to hold off Hitler but it was the American's who bailed us out...Thankyou and God Bless America.

    Dave the Canadian Capitalist

  • This is how the song should be, a quick, steady, drum-beat like presentation, building up power as one goes on. Mormons do a beautiful song but that is not a version to inspire one to action like this is. This makes you want to stand up and smite something. Mormons make me want to sit down with closed eyes and just smile quietly; hardly a battle hymn.

  • I'm not sure which performance I like better, this one or that of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I know one thing's for sure, however - this is one of the best performances of this incredible hymn that I've heard. It gives me chills whenever I listen to it.

Thank God for music like this. And Julia Ward Howe, of course :)

  • truth is mar-ching... truth is mar-ching...

  • Wow! Stunning.

  • Agreed, sonorra.

Try listening to this while reading the book of Revelation, chapters 14 and onward. In fact, much of the lyrics were taken from images in that book. It makes the whole experience more enjoyable.

  • God Bless Us Everyone. I don't think God cares much for any particular country .. they're very fleeting in the timeline of history and eternity.

  • I have to disagree with DavidWCBLS; I love the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing this much more. Maybe I am partial to the way it is sung because my own choir used that approach, but I believe it is much more likely to give you chills...especially since there is this big buildup at the beginning of this and then one voice is all that you hear.

  • God Bless America, Though I am not American born, I love America. America is the last freedom standing on the globe against all the dictatorship, socialism, which is the transition to communism. America, wake up& be strong, don't ever lose your constitution that was endowed from god. Even all those terrorist countries have one -year -long greencard waiting list come to America, so those who passionately hate America, go to live somewhere in communist country. then u will appreciate & learn

  • I agree, it its an awesome song

but remember that people killed other people while this was playing

  • @aleeex1994

True, but that fact is mitigated somewhat by the fact that this song is originally an abolitionist song.

  • God Bless America and let Her prosper under the banner of God, because without him America would not be here!

  • Fantastic video. I agree... best version EVER. Goosebumps all over right now...

  • god bless you, estonia

  • It's amazing!! GOD BLESS USA!!!!

  • A rousing and passionate musical version of this song - Passionate and patriotic for all Christians around the World!

  • Thank you so much for this great song and video!

  • beautiful landscapes glory to the Lord!

  • Why can't all sopranos sound this fantastic?? Especially on the "Amen, Amen" Version of this song!?!?

  • If this is sung in churches, I would attend simply to sing along to this in a group

even though I'm an atheist. Fantastic!

Hopefully a deep voiced fellow similar to our Robert Shaw Corale, would be present to open the song

  • EXCELLENT

  • I always liked it when they sung this song for the closing of Mass.

  • Aside from the Marine Band, I can't think of very many better versions.

  • there is another side to this wonderful song besides its beauty and its lyrics: intimidation.

  • @rem45acp Intimidation of whom?

  • @pumkinpimp1 any other country who wants to mess with the USA

  • This should be our (the American) national anthem. So much more inspiring than the Banner, which is not to say the Banner isn't a great song, but it's never made me misty eyed like this song does.

  • @HoomanOfTitus

Tell that to early 19th century baltimore.

  • @HoomanOfTitus Although I prefer hearing this song to hearing the current national anthem, it shouldn't be the national anthem. The lyrics would violate the wall of separation between church and state.

  • @SamHagagaga The Pledge of Allegiance does that already. Speaking as an agnostic, I don't mind if there are Christian overtones in things like the pledge and the anthem, I just don't want it to end up in the governmental system. Which it does. Often.

This song is about abolition, ultimately, which I think is one of our greater achievements as a nation, and would be a good representation of what we stand for. The anthem will never be changed, I'm sure, but I would prefer this song.

  • I wonder what the progressives would think if they heard this.

  • Greeeeeet!!! I love this song!!!

    from Japan.

  • This is a very interesting song, because it alludes to parts of the Book of Revelation.

Yes modern versions have changed the last verse to "let us live to make men free"

This changes the entire meaning. But with the wholesale rejection of God it wouldn't make sense to say "let us die to make men free". So political correctness trumps even our own heritage.

  • @MrHobbes2001 : Its not political correctness. Most civilian and children choirs sing "let us live", while military and traditional choirs STILL sing "let us die". It was written and sung as a military march. Therefore some believe that those who don't or didn't serve should not sing the original verse. Also there are many more lines that choirs leave out. Every version is great.

  • AMERICA!!!! NUMBER 1 !!!!1

  • Absolutely Beautiful God Bless America

  • Absolutely Beautiful

  • they need a grammy....now.

  • Finally, a version with the correct words in the last verse. "As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free." We must be willing to die for others.

  • @moteintheeye

All men owe the world a death, so, yes, you are right, good that it be to some purpose.

Insane cool lyrics to this song, and I don't REMOTELY believe in gods even. Men invented the concept of gods, and THIS purpose which was a call to arms to defeat slavery, is actually WORTH that invention, imho.

If we must be saddled with the idea of "gods" let it always be for a selfless reason.

  • Excellent picture at 3:35 - the water is so smooth! Where is it anyway? Anyone know?

  • What about Dixie?

  • @Bassai we are all one country!!

  • @Bassai : what about it? The Dixie song was written by a New York playwright. As an abolitionist he was appalled at its use as the Confederacy's use of it. It is a beautiful song.

  • Woot!! Go America!

  • This song of couse is the great abolitionsit anthem. When Julia Ward Howe, who was a fervent abolitionist viewed the troops streaming into Washinton in 1861 to defend the capitol it was to her the army of God, his instrumtent his "terrible swift sword", doing God's work of freeing the slaves. it is the most inspiring and beautiful song I have ever heard. She, as well as the rest of the country later came to see the true horrors of war as sons were mangled and buried, she then ebcame a pacifist.

  • @emintey :The tune was written around 1856 by William Steffe. First known lyrics were called "Canaan's Happy Shore" sung as a campfire spiritual. Thomas Bishop, Massachusetts Infantry compiled a popular set of lyrics, circa 1860, titled "John Brown's Body",about the famed abolitionist.

  • @emintey: Early in the Civil War, and Julia Ward Howe heard this song during a public review of the troops outside Washington on Upton's Hill, Virginia. . Howe's companion at the review, the Reverend James Clarke, suggested to Howe that she write new words for the fighting men's song. November 18, 1861, Howe awoke with the words of the song in her mind and in near darkness wrote the verses to the "Battle Hymn of the Republic".

  • @emintey. Pacifism, thought beautiful, is not Godlike. As Jesus said, I come to bring a sword, not peace. But the sword of Christ is the Word of God; the light against the darkness. It pierces the dark as a sword. God has always been a God of war, whether spiritually or physically. It is because we have an enemy, like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. We must be fighters to help those who cannot help themselves. We must fight the enemy daily to preserve our own souls. War, is constant.

  • @emintey It was commonly sung by both sides during the civil war, though.

  • @emintey It was commonly sung by both sides during the civil war, though.

  • @emintey Another very beautiful and inspiring song you might want to check out is Dixieland

  • @emintey Thats awesome. I never knew that. Thanks for that piece of history!
