More government control over our lives. Less about health. You went bankrupt. The current policies of the health care bill, along with many other policies of the president will bankrupt us all. Socialism is about making us equal. Equally poor.
That was a very good point. As a kid from the city of New York that has been hurt with no insurance I can tell you a system in place is needed. Now that there is a system in place people could have supplemental insurance to cover the grey area's. this could make cost's cheaper. Oh, oh that is why insurance companies are complaining!
@ubercomrade This country isn't ready for that because they believe in American exceptionalism and don't want to be like Europe. He should have stuck with the public option, but he caved in and didn't fight for it.
If we Americans pushed our government to end these pointless oil wars in the middle east and reduce our military spending, then maybe we could save up enough money to implement a National Healthcare system.
Works fine in most of europe.. if it started to not work then politicians would get crucified =) We dont even charge people on vacation if they get hurt or sick, Never really thought about it til i discovered that some ppl dont have that.
The govorment uses Private hospitals for alot of things too and get good prices on treatments because of volume and negotiation clout.
60-70% of people support universal healthcare, hawaii already has gov. mandated healthcare, it pays for itself, its worked in every other country its been used in. there is no downside
At 50, with no health ins., I got a job which provided health coverage. The first 6 months, I would have to pay if i wanted it. After that, largely free. Had never been a day in hospital, but decided to pay.
Two weeks later, got Gharidia, and was hospitalized for a week. Total cost covered. Universal Health care is the most pro-American proposal to come down the pike in years.
We are no different then the slaves of biblical time... we have not what those above chose to give. It is time for our voices to be heard and let freedom ring once again.
I've come to the conclusion that the majority of persons against universal health-care are ignorant hicks that have never left Podunk City USA. Anyone with friends and family in Europe knows the societal benefits of universal heath care.
you sir, are a badass, and someone who's awful experience is a great example of why reform in this area of our great country is very much needed. 200, 000 dollars? good god. The private sector of the healthcare industry has let this happen (and much worse) to too many Americans for way too long. A public insurance sector would be great. When FDR proposed the New Deal i'm sure it didn't have the same amount of backlash and propaganda as the health care issue of today has.
I agree with having affordable health care available to everyone, but I think it would be better in the long run to do that by keeping it private while making it more affordable by getting the government out of the industry entirely.
That is a good argument for the health care. I agree! But i think the people who don't want it are the people with money or who have a health care program already. So they feel they shouldn't have to pay for other, they have seen welfare go out of control and they don't want another system that to do the same. Be sure to visit my page and check out the trailers for my new movie dealing with race relations in america
A Government Option regarding health care is very bad for Americans because all roads lead to Socialized medical system. Obama supports a "Single Payer System" like they have in Canada, the health care in Canada is sub par and imploding says top Canadian health care officials. If you want to give all Americans HC you will need to make Insurance companies compete state to state you will need tort reform to stop frivolous lawsuits against Docs that will drop HC costs dramatically. NO GOVERNMENT OP
Reps The Obama plan hopes to offer a public option, it's called competition, the thing Republicans claim to support. It's what you have in a truly free market, you have choices, and if the people choose the public option the private Insurance companies will have to lower their prices to compete, or they go out of business. That's called a free market: what part of that do you not understand?
I feel for you. I'm sorry you had to go through that.
Sure, health care shouldn't be so doggone expensive. I'm poor, I understand what it's like.
My brother was in a terrible accident a couple years back. He didn't have health care and they threw him out of the hospital after checking him over once. He's still suffering from complications.
-But I can't support universal healthcare. I'm not going to put my health care in the hands of the people who built the slums and destroyed the SS fund.
ALL Americans are now paying in HIDDEN TAXES the cost for medical care for the "UNINSURED" who must use the Emergency Room.
With President Obama's Health Plan ALL AMERICANS will be covered. These HIDDEN TAXES will disappear.
WHY is a ... "PUBLIC GOVERNMENT PLAN" ... good enough for all REPUBLICAN SENATORS in Congress ... but NOT good enough for ALL AMERICANS who choose this option over a Private Plan??
AGAIN we see the blatant REPUBLICAN LIES & HYPROCRISY !!
Places the INSURANCE COMPANY between YOU & YOUR DOCTOR. The Insurance Company DECIDES what treatment they will authorize & pay for ... or what claim they will deny & cancel the policy.
PUBLIC:
Your DOCTOR is the one who DECIDES what treatment YOU require. NO profit involved. NO more red tape. NO begging with Insurance Company for approval.
All SENATORS in Congress have a GOVERNMENT run PUBLIC PLAN !!
I agree with the comment below me, America would not accept a model based on canada or the uk, in fact most european countries universal care involves a two tier system,, the answer is perhaps what switzerland, netherlands, and germany have done.... they regulate their private insurance providers like public utilities and that includes no cherry picking client & sliding scales for low income,,,, very little if any public funding.... just a set of laws....
The US is the last industrialized nation not to have Universal Health Insurance. I don't think we should model it on the Canadian or UK systems. Obama has it right. It should be low cost, affordable with options for plans.
Sorry to hear about all that you went through with that fire and the financial disaster it caused for you. Had to be rough.
What you experienced from all your employers is exactly why all Americans need affordable health insurance. No magic formulas but a new system.
The entire healthcare sytem needs to be fixed. There is a video on Youtube called most astonishing healthcare disaster of the 20th century.I suggest you watch this it has lots of great info. Also we now have alternative healthcare that an individual can do and most times it costs little to nothing. Also by simply changing the way you think you can have a GREAT effect as to what happens in your life.Your attitude has alot to do with it.Positive attitude brings positive results.Learn about the secret
thankyou so much for sending me this video.you like a bullet pierce through all of the inane bullshit people spout as reasons to block our inalienable right as civilized human beings to recieve equal and full medical coverage.
There are improvements that could be made in our health care system. But using tax dollars to pay for health care for illegal aliens always seems to be included in most plans being presented and that's just not acceptable to most Americans. The numbers they always use when they tell how many "Americans" have no health insurance usually include illegal aliens, in order to inflate the number.
You're absolutely right. The argument about paying more taxes etc. well, in France and England they have it (I mention the 2 countries where I have personal experience), so why can't the US have it too???
I feel for all the people who can't afford health care but there is simply no way for america to afford something like universal healthcare. I don't know the feeling personally but universal healthcare just seems like one step closer to total government control/communism.
I think if Americans really want universal healthcare they are probably going to need to pay more tax. That means paying for people that may or may not be pulling their fair share of the weight in society. Is it the responsibility of everyone to take care of everyone else or is it more like survival of the fittest?
I think healthy financially secure people have a better chance of being productive than people that are sick and in debt.
THE PATIENT WAR is a film in production about how this system really works and how people get screwed by the insurance companies. Buy USED AUTOMATICS on itunes, I'm funding the film with this record.
I would have left my job a long time ago if we had universal healthcare. I have a chronic disease lupus and my job gives me health insurance. I am stuck with this company. I think we should be free to get any job we want with out feeling scared that we will lose our health coverage.
Socialized healthcare is probably a good idea in theory, but I don't think it will be efficient in practice. I am very weary of the idea of combining the often exigent nature of healthcare with the inextricable bureaucracy inherent in every government agency that has ever existed. I often have trouble getting through the red tape of my small, private insurance company; and I don't even want to imagine what's going to happen when I have to ask the federal government to cover a new prescription.
Is it true that only corporations can go bankrupt anymore? How is it owners did it on their own. Where would they be without workers? I deninitely think that we should have a safety net when we have put in a lifetime of work. Who are they kidding/defrauding? And not only health care, but a hand up with a comprehenisve worthwhile education system for adults. Like how to run a business successfully. Anyone who can't see both sides of the coin, just can't, that's all. lol
healthcare should be a right, not a privilege. I am fortune I choose to join the military when I was younger so I can go to the VA. Health care is a serious issue in this country. It is ignored until someone actually needs it. Liberals talk about how bad Company CEOs are. I talk about what rip offs all the doctors and hospitals are. A life should always be more important then money. Families are ruined over health issues and paying hospital bills. This needs to stop
Who's "sponging" off the government? I lived in Canada for twenty years. I paid into Medicare the whole time , but for 17 years I didn't need it. Then I did. I presented my Medicare card to my doctor. He said I needed to go to the hospital. I presented the card again. I was treated, and got well. Nothing was different there, I just didn't ever see a bill.
In the U.S., ten years later, I had a heart attack. I got a bill for $15,000. They were on the phone every day, "When will I pay?"
Hey Super(burning)man, this is a video that more people would benefit from seeing. Particularly those who are born into wealth and have never had to concern themselves with the costs of healthcare.
Soooner or later it's going to have to happen. I have friends in Europe who tell me the big difference in our political systems is: here, the people are afraid of the government. There, the government is afraid of the people. How did we get it so backwards?
I'm happy to be living in Canada, many Americans moved over here or Britain just because they don't have to open their wallets everytime they have to see a doctor, the USA is the only country in the Western World that does not provide Universal Healthcare for its people, in the words of G.W.Bush it is too expensive, now spending almost a trillion dollars in a misguided war and another trillion to save the fat cats of Wall Street does no seem to be a problem. Disgusting really!
honastly it was pretty good but right now in my life health care isnt very important i am only 15 but i will deffinently think about what you said and try to apply it to my life in the future
I work in healthcare...universal is not the answer...I admit our system is broken, but it will be worse if we go Obama's way. When the Clinton's induced their medicare reform, it got worse...patients in nursing homes who were getting out of bed 2x a day, are no longer getting treated unless they are getting better...meaning...if they are only maintaining their strength and ability, they no longer get physical or occupational therapy. Obama's plan will be worse.
It sucks that I'm scared to get sick, not to mention diagnosed with something serious. The part that really scares me isn't the getting sick, though. I feel I could fight that... but the financial ruin, credit dealing and debt is like a disease that will last far longer than surviving it.
Why am I being advertised drugs on every other commercial? Why is airtime bought for this? I'd rather have cures, not recreational pills makin $ for stock
I don't care which party wins as far as this whole subject is concerned - I just need help paying the bill if I have something happen and can't afford the hospital stay.
Right now those who need medical treatment go right to the ER and get it. The rest pay through higher insurance premeums and treatment costs.
That's the reality. We are making a major turn in our nation toward a more progressive agenda. America has been moving left for 100 years, and President Obama will connect the remainging dots.
The party the rich have had off the backs of the poor is just about over. Fuck 'em ALL!
The major problem I saw the last election was that many young adults complained and complained about Bush, but at the time of voting, a small percentage voted. We are already paying tons of taxes, without getting anything good but a war that only keeps dividing us. I think it's time to focus our taxes for something that will helps us all like Universal HealthCare.
Where I am from we take it for granted - if we have a major accident my government pays some of your rent, gives you a few quid for food, and never even mentions money when you leave the hospital.
Will Obama give America free healthcare? I don't know, but I do know McCain WON'T!
PUBLIC insurance companies control the medical and vehicle industries. PUBLIC meaning insurance companies who have stockholders and prioritize profit and shareholder profits.
THAT IS NOT INSURANCE. It is not in the best interest of their customers. Customers that may pay out $50k/year (in small business case) and get their rates hiked up by 20% for a $2000 bill after putting 20x times into the company.
It's bullshit and unamerican. I will NOT use a PUBLIC insurance company. EVER!
OMG That is horrible how our government wasn't there for you or anyone that has gone through what you did.
I have insurance and I went to the doctor and I got a bill for $200...wtf kind of insurance is blue cross???? It is totally expensive. My sister use to have insurance for $400 a month. Rediculous!
I think all jobs need to offer health insurance for full-time and part-time employees.
I couldn't be more against universal health care. Yea, it sucks that there are people in America who can't afford health care, but wake up people! That's what Capitalism is all about. Eb and flow. The fortunate and the less fortunate. We are not a socialized system. If universal health care is passed, I'll be needlessly paying for the people who can't pull their weight, and that's just not fair. At least with the war I'm getting something out of it; protection. What am I getting out of this?
You aren't getting protection out of the war. You're getting oil inflation and government spending on a MASSIVE scale. A1 Abrahm Tanks get 13g/mile and we have over 2000 of them in Iraq alone that must get 1 hours of drive time every day. Our war only increased our dependence on the region and IS a contributor to the current financial crisis
Capitalism is about funneling more and more money from those who have the least into fewer and fewer who already have more than they could ever spend.
I'm sorry you feel that way. It's a very cynical view on our system, but maybe you're right. Capitalism was and is supposed to be about competition.
And freedom is supposed to be about being able to walk down the street and not have to worry about whether I'm going to get blown up by some extremist. If that's what I wanted, I'd move to the Middle East. Unfortunately, the trade off is taxes are a bit higher. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I prefer higher taxes to the alternative.
Queeny I very much doubt you'd get blown up by an extremist whilst casually walking down the street regardless of if USA went to war with Iraq, but if you did I'm sure your insurance company would screw you over.
Maybe I was exaggerating a bit to prove a point. But whether I'm walking on the street or inside the World Trade Center is irrelevant. The point I'm trying to make is, as U.S. citizens we should not be forced to live in fear of attack from orginizations who harbor hate toward us, be they Iraqi terrorists or whoever.
But regardless, I don't trust the governments judgment as is, why would I want to give them more control over my personal well fare and moreover raise my taxes even higher?
People who can't pull their weight? You must be some dumb naive moron. Let's see how you feel if you get cancer that eats away at your tiny brain whilst getting medical bills for thousands of dollars. Thousands of hard working Americans face the reality of never ending medical bills due to health costs. Once you are one of them, you will think differently. But by then, it will be too late for you.
That's an unfortunate reality. However, I don't believe in a system in which I sponge off of the gov't just because I'm personally in need. I do not live my life under the supposition that I will contract an incurable disease.
In the event that that happens I suppose I'll have to rely on my insurance company and hope for the best because I live in a Capitalist society.
I have views and so do you, and I would appreciate that you not insult me regardless of your stance on this issue.
That's your solution if you get some serious disease? Just hope for the best?! Just hope you won't go bankrupt? Just hope that your profit motivated insurance company won't screw you over? Well, good luck with that. A lot of Americans who became bankrupt from medical bills also just "hoped for the best." You are probably some naive youngster who hasn't experienced the reality of health care costs when you start getting older. But reality will give you a very rude awakening.
This system isn't perfect, but Universal Healthcare is not a solution. It's an unfortunate truth but money motivates people. Having the gov't control your wage does not motivate a person to work harder. Not to mention the horror stories I've heard of people waiting in lines to receive medical care in the E.R. no less. That is truly absurd!
Lastly, stop making broad assumptions about my life. You don't know me from a hole in the ground. I have not insulted you, please show me the same respect.
Do you know that many catholic hospitals, as well as others, will not charge you if you tell them you have no insurance before you begin treatment, and that you have no way of paying for this...its called a "write off" and it happens in the city where I live all the time. You just have to be proactive and know where to go before you get sick.
The Dems and Socialists don't want to be proactive. They want the Gov't to mandate a health care plan and set a limit on how much they earn.
We have too many lazy people in this country with their hand out waiting for the Gov't to fill it with goodies. If they put half the energy they use into feeling sorry for themselves toward creating a better future for themselves, perhaps they wouldn't be poor.
Obama 08! He's going to fucking change the shit out of America!
Queen. I am a Republican. I am not one for giving welfare to an able bodied adult, But I am all for universal health care. Everyone rich, poor, lazy, hard working, stupid and smart has the right to live a pain free existence. Health care providers and insurance companies make way too much money off of something that should be a right and not a privilege
Don't kid yourself. Average hard working citizens will be taxed to pay for this system.
The money has to come from somewhere and right now we are in a recession. Now is not the time to be toying with an idea like this. And although everyone should have health care, it should not be at the expense of others.
Where is this money going to come from? Out of our pockets. Wake up guys, this is Socialism.
This current situation is really scaring the crap out of me...I really worry about Obama's plans...I agree our HC system needs work, but UH will be horrible...people don't see the costs the hosp and healthcare providers incur...the manufacturer's are making tons! Sure the Doc's do pretty well, but many are retiring early because it isn't worth it as much as malpractice insurance costs. UH won't fix a thing in this country...just make it worse for all! I'm seriously worried!!
Here in the UK we have the NHS where everybody regardless of any situation gets free healthcare. This is paid by a national insurance contribution paid by both companies and employees. Its like an extra bit of income tax BUT IT IS WORTH IT! Without it thousands of people would die each year. A small price to pay I think.
I have always had decent healthcare but tire of the insurance company digging deeper each year into my pocket and providing less. The insurance companies take too much out of the system. Eventhough, I have good healthcare, I think we need to socialize our healthcare system the same way we have done our schools & public libraries.
Sorry man, but I've not answered this earlier. Universal Health Care is sold to Americans as some sort of extreme left-wing, almost communist way of taking care of people where, in this vision, doctors don't get their fair cut, insurance companies get screwed, and the sky will fall in if it is adopted. If you can't afford insurance, you government does not care about you, IT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU!!! All these scare tactics brought to you by, who else, the insurance lobby!
Universal health care in theory is nice, but the reality is, it will require higher taxes which puts more money and power in the hands of the U.S. government and we've seen what they can do with money and power. I think I would rather just have affordable health care. The medical industry as a whole, they are robbing us all. Please Explain why I have to pay nearly $300 to have a doctor listen to my chest for two seconds, then refer me to specialists who then cannot properly diagnose? We R Cattle.
Since the beginning of medicine, doctors have practiced on people. The sum of all of their knowledge has been acquired this way. So competent and affordable healthcare should be available for everyone. They owe it to us
Dont be fooled even with coverage you can potentially end up bankrupt when you have inadecuate insurance. My son suffered a traumatic brain injury at age 12 and due the round the clock personal care he needed I was forced to leave my job and care for him. He is now 20 and will never have coverage for his pre-existing condition, We have paid in excess of 1.5 million dollars in health related costs for his care
Obama's healthcare plan seems to be a good step, and could, in addition to the healthcare itself, put the stock market back on track. As we all know, the stock market is controlled by how the media tells us to feel about the stock market. It is a wonderful system, use it.
Universal health care is an end goal to reach in steps. We can't get there from here all at once. that is politically not possible and economically not possible.
Barack Obama's plan is a very good long step toward that goal.
Too bad the world economy is totally deep-sixing right now. We'll be very blessed if our local state and county health facilities for the elderly can stay open, with tax income down so much, let alone much-needed Universal Health Care taking off.
Good, you are right there needs to be something done. Unfortunately I don't have an answer to the Health Care Dilemna. NObody does, too many people lack health insurance but many can afford it and don't purchase it. There are rampant abuses of the system, not sure that Socialization of the Enterprise would make things better, the government screws up everything it touches and what it doesn't screw up it ends up stealing so the answer must lay elsewhere....
I am not an expert on insurance, nor do I work in the insurance industry. I majored in insurance and risk management in college. I do know that socialized insurance is not the answer simply based on how poorly the government runs the other programs under its control. There are no easy answers or solutions to our healthcare system, but socialized medicine isn't feasable. I do belive that healthcare can be obtained at reasonable costs if made available using sound ideas and public education.
I don't advocate not going to the doctor, but a yearly check up should be sufficient, but by all means go if you need to. If shopping for individual health coverage, seek out policies that pay wellness benefits. Also seek out suplemental coverage that will pay you for wellness, but also for bill pay, cost of living, travel and hotel expense for family if hospitalized (I know you've seen the Aflac commercials). These supplemental policies are not expensive, some less than $10 per week.
Another idea that would drive down the cost of medical treatment through competition and education of the public on how to use free market competion to shop out the best deal for medical service. If more people did this, the price would start dropping dramatically. Health savings accounts could also be an alternative to the high cost of health insurance. Most of the time, people will go years without having to even see a doctor, much less have specialized health treatment. In the meantime, save.
Our current free market healthcare system isn't perfect and has many pratfalls, but it does work. No person can ever be denied healthcare in an emergency room based on their ability to pay and in most cases, cannot be forced to pay for that treatment. It is in fact against the law to refuse treatment in an ER. There are programs for people to get help in paying for ER visits through MedAssist (one entity among others). Many hospitals will also set up interest free payback schedules as well. CONT
I am gonna lay it out for you. Socialized medicine will not work in the U.S. We spend $10000 per yer per child on education and yet we have the lowest test scores among industrialized nations. Social Security funds have been raided by politicians and will be insolvent by 2042 or before. The VA hospitals are NOTORIOUS for their bad service. And you want our government to manage healthcare for 300 million people? It would be a disaster.
Ugh. It IS NOT socialized medicine, Kevdogg. It's FREE medicine. ALL OF IT. ALL THE TIME. With NO CONDITIONS. And the only result of it on the people is that we're all very healthy and happy.
yes it is...then where does that money come from to pay for all that medicine? U canadians, (this is not meant to be offensive, just informative) pay higher sales tax to pay for that free medicine...u are probaly so accustome to it you dont even notice it...which is fine it works for you, will it work for America....who knows?

I suppose it is. I guess I just hate the term "Socialized", because of it's negative connotations. And don't worry, we definitely notice the taxes. :)
The whole country pays a 5% sales tax on goods and services. Each province also has a provincial sales tax (for health care, transport, etc.) In Ontario, we pay 8%.
It stings sometimes, but it's worth it.
A lot of people think the Feds would screw it up. Could universal health care succeed in America if it was handled at the State level?
It's mind-boggling how people like John McCain can be so opposed to universal health care when it has been proven to work in so many other countries. This isn't a ground-breaking concept, by any means. Just look to other countries like, Canada and most of Europe and copy them! And when McCain and his kind say things like: "I want every American to have the right to choose their own health care.", like caring for you own people is some kind of socialist concept, he's soooo off the mark.
The only people that decide what kind of health care the average American gets are the drug and insurance companies. I'm Canadian and yes, I pay 15-30% income tax. Yes, I also pay 13% sales tax on the things I buy. But, when I broke my ankle last summer I paid $0 to have it fixed by morning. When my aunt needed a new liver, it cost her $0 and was handled by some of the best doctors in the world. Yes, we pay a little more to our government, but rest assured, they take good care of us.
Now, I am by no means a cliched, internet commenting, America-hatin' Canadian. I love America and actually hope to live there some day. It is a beautiful country. But on this issue, it falters. Don't let dinosaurs like McCain let their Commie-fearin', Cold War havin', Reagan wannabe ways decide the future of your children. There is no reason to fear universal health care. We Canadians and Europeans love it. And we're not socialists. :)
I cant believe how America doesnt take care of its people.
In Europe we have free health care for everyone. It works real well. Equality for all is the only way the world can exist on an even healthy level. Thank you for sending me this. It was a positive pleasure to watch. I will spread the word to all my lovely friends in America. Take care from England.
I think health care s/b generated and disseminated by the free mkt, by far the must efficient and effective means of innovation and organization. Unfortunately the free mkt. must be informed by morality and Christianity and we're a pretty corrupt society now, so we're having horrific problems - imploding economy etal.
If we don't return to God things'll just continue to devolve at an accelerating pace. I hope we get over our apathy and stupidity and learn.
Yikes, the flamewar after such a thoughtful vlog actually. Ultimately the problem lies with (and I was actually just talking to a guy here at work about it today) trying to balance corporate greed in managing healthcare with the ineptitude of government bureaucracies handling it. The sad fact is, the economy is so destroyed by 8 years of insanity, universal healthcare (for it or against it) will be an project for another time.
Anyone else?? For just a small fee I will heal you through this screen,,I can do it. Believe me and live or save your money and die,,it's up to you. I'll take cash in boxes. This is now,,your health care. Do you feel better?
You could've all had health care,,but then we'd have no dead heros to go see at their funerals. We could wave flags and shout we're number one at your injuries AND the bills you recieve. We could all lay hands on you and pray and you will be healed. I saw it on t.v. I bet you could get in the army,,,no,they are fucked on care too. Well,,,let the healings begin. One slap from Benny Hinn and you'll dance like bees are in your pants. Lay your hands on the screen and pray,,,,HEALED!!! Simple!!!
We should also have access to a new house for all Americans. While we are at it, all Americans should have access to a new Chevrolet. Too bad these giveaways will destroy our economy by taxing everybody 90%.
heath care should be available for everyone and affordable.they require car insurance & companies have made it affordable for the average guy,but if the government is in charge of it,you are at their mercy, socialized medicine has not worked in other countries, why do we think it will work here in the corrupt political environment we are in now?if the greedy folks could stop the rising-no skyrockting costs of health care(like $20 Tylenol)maybe we could get affordable insurance.just a thought
your story is too bad and I'm sure there are many others, however I don't think it's the government's responsibilty to pay for the guy who's dying because he won't stop smoking or the woman who's feet are rotting from diabetes but she weighs 400 pounds and eats KFC daily for lunch.
And I truly don't think the government should pay for abortions! which obama is all for killing babies!
I dont care about Obama or McCain. I have One Lord and only that one I serve.
Nazis thought unwanted jews needed prison. Just as you think that I need such. Just as the Obama´s of the world think unwanted babies deserve to be killed in their own wombs...
Thanks for posting this. The US is amazing in being the only supposedly developed nation without some form of universal care that doesn't victimize both workers and the companies that need a workforce. Perhaps given the present financial implosion, Americans will get over the propaganda and finally turn the corner to support what is a necessary solution for anyone not stuck in the 18th century?
that totally sucks about your hospital bills. i HAD insurance and my bills are killing me. i talked to someone from Scotland, they don't have "universal" healthcare, but MANDITORY health care. i think we need to look into that. lower the cost of insurance, they are crooks. i believe that universal healthcare would be great if it was done correctly, and will take YEARS to get it right. but we obviously need SOMETHING. sry about your accident, i'm glad you're better! OBAMA '08
amen to that... and when i say amen i am saying it to the same god that genjuapa seems to claim to know the opinion and intent of personally... and yes genjuapa christians generally believe that everything happens by gods hand and for a reason ... if this belief is true who are you to judge gods ultimate decisions?
Obama fights for the right of mummy-killers (and doctors) to kill their babies, for the "wellfare" of the women.
Hitler fought for the right of nazis to kill jews for the "wellfare" of his pagan nation.
All in all, none of them cared about what the killed ones thought about it. They were less and would never vote in any case.
In Occident, we have killed ten times more babies than jews by the nazis. That certainly makes us responsible of a bigger holocaust than that of Hitler.
i've also notice you're obviously catholic... the same denomination of christianity responsible for multiple abortion clinic bombings murdering doctors just being paid to do their jobs... sound like an eye for an eye situation to me... wait wasnt it jesus christ who said turn the other cheek?
wow so i tell you that you should be spat upon and you tell me i deserve to be murdered in response..... and to think im being compared to a nazi... you sir are sick and i am done rsponding to you as i wish to not have my life threatened by a narrow minded moron
and my last two comments were not directed at you websoulman... they were directed at the sick freak genjuanpa who is spewing his sick right wing agenda in here.
I agree with what you said. Having Universal Healthcare would help a lot of people. But at the same time I don't think that a lot people realize that places like Canada and France (where they have Universal) have their own problems. No matter what type of Healthcare program the government has their will always be some problems with it.
A society that kills its own babies in the wombs of its own women, in its own hospitals,... by the millions, is certainlya society that commits Holocaust.
And the figures are well over the 6 million babies.
The only reason why all the Obama´s of the media and politics don´t care about those babies is because they can not be interviewed or vote to any candidate.
Those babies were wanted alive by God their Creator since all eternity.
I'm one of the few Americans that has free health care since birth and until death: IHS (Indian Health Service). Yes, the US does have universal health care, though only universally to those with traceable Native American bloodlines. First, let me say that while the service is sub-par to the average health clinic here, it does beat paying for a doctor (and most hospital fees are covered by IHS, but experimental treatments and new/name brand medications aren't).
That said, we need to get the ball rolling on getting everyone covered. I've seen what it's like when someone isn't covered (my father isn't, and he's in debt because of it), and it's not pretty. And what would it cost us? According to the AMSA, between $34 to $69 billion per year, or less than $200 per person. There is something seriously wrong if we can't achieve this (and get a cheaper energy source , and fix our banks, and the immigration "situation", and...).
I do not live in US. I live in a little shitty place called Panama. Here we have a "Universal healthcare" system that is a real shit. If you go to a hospital, you won't worry about the bill, because the system pays the mess.
Ok, the is the "ugly part": the administrators steal a bit, like mouse eat fucking cheese and the are a lot of black holes in the box.
These holes don't allow paying the hospital, it doesn't allow paying its bills and the shit comes over!
Having been fortunate enough to have been born and raised in Britain and worked in National Health Service Hospitals as a senior ward manager I really appreciate what we have over here and hope that the U.S. government will stop this insane healthcare system which discriminates so immorally between 'the have and have nots'. It's a disgrace. How much money has been wasted on corrupt, morally bankrupt wars to secure oil fields at the cost of healthcare and education for American citizens?
Amen, brother. Unfortunately, after all the money Bush sunk and is still sinking into Iraq, and now with this bail out, where will the money to pay for it come from? It isn't right that 46 million Americans can't afford health insurance. It's just plain wrong
There are a lot of things Government won't help you with financially. This is one of them. They don't think it's logical to help everyone out. Everything revolves around money. It shouldn't be that way, but it's the best system we got right now. They only help when many people are involved. They have to realize not everyone has extra money. Only enough to make it through. They have to get involved more.
I am from holland(the netherlands) and I am so sorry to hear this, united states is not taking care of the people who do not have it.what we see on tv is only the glitter and glammour and the ones who made it.53 states stand up. we only got 16 million you got enough. so stand up for health care all billion something americans at once one voice you can do it. this is the only way to make them listen.
Obama is backing the killing of millions of innocent babies, including partial abortion. Nazy Holocaust was a joke compared to what is happening everyday in Usa (and Europe)`s hospitals.
Genocide.
Defend babies, defend LIFE and then come with brilliant plans about "healthcare".
It is absurd to compare abortions by a woman to correct a "sin," to Hitler's eugenics program. What most "pro-lifers" are arguing is that they want their religious values to become the law of the land again. The First Amendment is about the separation of Church and State.
On a related note, are we good stewards if we overgraze our pastures? No. Well, 2 billion people are malnourished or starving and you want to force more. Now that is a sin.
Defend a woman's choice. Unwanted pregnancies can become unwanted troubled depressed children. Abortion should never be used as a contraceptive but this will never be a 'black and white issue'. I worked on a gynaecology ward in which one of the consultants fitted an IUD whilst his patient was still anaesthetised following her vaginal termination of pregnancy which I thought was very sensible. 'Hard cases' DO NOT make 'bad laws'. Each case should be treated individually depending on circumstance.
"Unwanted pregnancies can become unwanted troubled depressed children"
Unwanted jews can become a problem to all society and trouble a depressed economy. So its good to kill them.
Said the nazis.... In the USA much more than 6 million babies have been killed in the wombs of their own mothers, with the support and encourage of all the Obama´s who care just as much as the Nazis of the wellfare of the "society".
How dare you call the Nazi holocaust a JOKE compared with a woman's right to choose whether to have an unwanted child. Catholicism needs to wake up and adjust to the real world of using condoms to combat AIDS, preventing cervical cancer by vaccinating teenage girls and responsible REALISTIC birth control. You also need to stop protecting your paedophile priests you despicable, homophobic, bigotted hypocrits!
Pro Choicers want a woman to be able to control her own life.
Both arguments sound pretty good. Yet your never, ever going to get anywhere by believing the otherside of the argument are pure evil. Both of you (and all the ones inbetween) have very good points.
Both arguments have merits. Why not take away the theatrics and discuss the issue with logic, compassion and reasoning?
I'm pro choice, because God gave us the power to make too many people
I'm sorry but the moment the 'g' word is used in relation to an individuals attributes or abilities I am left feeling very disheartened, shame -the first half was quite good but then came the parental scolding and reference to an imaginary deity. My passions were inflamed by the sanctimonious hypocricy of Genjuanpa's comments especially after seeing their real agenda on their profile, I find catholicism and all it's gloriously irresponsible and draconian ways particularly repugnant and dangerous.
Aren't your beliefs just as repugnant and dangerous when you are dictating what people should or should not believe?
Religion can keep people going, teach good values to children (IE Don't kill anyone etc) and makes some people very happy. It can guide their beliefs, and that's a perfectly acceptable argument.
Genjuanpa argues there will be more abortions if Obama gets in. More babys will be killed. A valid point, albeit made very badly.
Understand their view, rather than put it in the evilbox
Nazis had the right, according to you, to choose whether or not to have jews "around". I do dare compare it because the argument is exactly the same: you give the right to someone to decide upon the life of a third party.
Just as jews could no vote or demonstrate, babies can not be interviewed or vote, because the Obama´s and Hitler´s of the world have decided that someone has the right to decide upon the life of others.
thats fucking sick... the fact that you would compare adolf hitler, a psychotic mass murderer who ordered the murder of millions (mostly in a violent torturistic and demented way) to Obama a person who is fighting for the rights of someone to choose (and i do undretsnd someone is uffering here) but its a far far far comparison to the holocaust ...
Obama´s fight for the right of mummy-killers (and doctors) to kill their babies, for the "wellfare" of the women.

ThePrimeSpotcom 2 years ago
you sir, are a badass, and someone who's awful experience is a great example of why reform in this area of our great country is very much needed.

I agree with having affordable health care available to everyone, but I think it would be better in the long run to do that by keeping it private while making it more affordable by getting the government out of the industry entirely.
army103 2 years ago
That is a good argument for the health care. I agree! But i think the people who don't want it are the people with money or who have a health care program already. So they feel they shouldn't have to pay for other, they have seen welfare go out of control and they don't want another system that to do the same.

That's called a free market: what part of that do you not understand?
clusterfacker 2 years ago
I feel for you. I'm sorry you had to go through that.
Sure, health care shouldn't be so doggone expensive. I'm poor, I understand what it's like.
My brother was in a terrible accident a couple years back. He didn't have health care and they threw him out of the hospital after checking him over once. He's still suffering from complications.
-But I can't support universal healthcare. I'm not going to put my health care in the hands of the people who built the slums and destroyed the SS fund.

PUBLIC HEALTH PLAN:
ALL Americans are now paying in HIDDEN TAXES the cost for medical care for the "UNINSURED" who must use the Emergency Room.
With President Obama's Health Plan ALL AMERICANS will be covered. These HIDDEN TAXES will disappear.
WHY is a ... "PUBLIC GOVERNMENT PLAN" ... good enough for all REPUBLICAN SENATORS in Congress ... but NOT good enough for ALL AMERICANS who choose this option over a Private Plan??

STRIKING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN---PRIVATE & PUBLIC---HEALTH CARE:
PRIVATE:
Places the INSURANCE COMPANY between YOU & YOUR DOCTOR. The Insurance Company DECIDES what treatment they will authorize & pay for ... or what claim they will deny & cancel the policy.
PUBLIC:
Your DOCTOR is the one who DECIDES what treatment YOU require. NO profit involved. NO more red tape. NO begging with Insurance Company for approval.
All SENATORS in Congress have a GOVERNMENT run PUBLIC PLAN !!

I agree with the comment below me, America would not accept a model based on canada or the uk, in fact most european countries universal care involves a two tier system,, the answer is perhaps what switzerland, netherlands, and germany have done.... they regulate their private insurance providers like public utilities and that includes no cherry picking client & sliding scales for low income,,,, very little if any public funding.... just a set of laws....
juxtn 2 years ago
The US is the last industrialized nation not to have Universal Health Insurance. I don't think we should model it on the Canadian or UK systems. Obama has it right. It should be low cost, affordable with options for plans.
Sorry to hear about all that you went through with that fire and the financial disaster it caused for you. Had to be rough.
What you experienced from all your employers is exactly why all Americans need affordable health insurance. No magic formulas but a new system.

There are improvements that could be made in our health care system. But using tax dollars to pay for health care for illegal aliens always seems to be included in most plans being presented and that's just not acceptable to most Americans. The numbers they always use when they tell how many "Americans" have no health insurance usually include illegal aliens, in order to inflate the number.
craypoe1 2 years ago
You're absolutely right. The argument about paying more taxes etc. well, in France and England they have it (I mention the 2 countries where I have personal experience), so why can't the US have it too???

I feel for all the people who can't afford health care but there is simply no way for america to afford something like universal healthcare. I don't know the feeling personally but universal healthcare just seems like one step closer to total government control/communism.
hakai124 2 years ago
I think if Americans really want universal healthcare they are probably going to need to pay more tax. That means paying for people that may or may not be pulling their fair share of the weight in society. Is it the responsibility of everyone to take care of everyone else or is it more like survival of the fittest?
I think healthy financially secure people have a better chance of being productive than people that are sick and in debt.

EVER!

QueenyMcfaggot 3 years ago
You aren't getting protection out of the war. You're getting oil inflation and government spending on a MASSIVE scale. A1 Abrahm Tanks get 13g/mile and we have over 2000 of them in Iraq alone that must get 1 hours of drive time every day. Our war only increased our dependence on the region and IS a contributor to the current financial crisis
Capitalism is about funneling more and more money from those who have the least into fewer and fewer who already have more than they could ever spend.
LiveToThink 3 years ago
I'm sorry you feel that way. It's a very cynical view on our system, but maybe you're right. Capitalism was and is supposed to be about competition.
And freedom is supposed to be about being able to walk down the street and not have to worry about whether I'm going to get blown up by some extremist. If that's what I wanted, I'd move to the Middle East. Unfortunately, the trade off is taxes are a bit higher. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying I prefer higher taxes to the alternative.
QueenyMcfaggot 3 years ago
Queeny I very much doubt you'd get blown up by an extremist whilst casually walking down the street regardless of if USA went to war with Iraq, but if you did I'm sure your insurance company would screw you over.
samusd 3 years ago
Maybe I was exaggerating a bit to prove a point. But whether I'm walking on the street or inside the World Trade Center is irrelevant. The point I'm trying to make is, as U.S. citizens we should not be forced to live in fear of attack from orginizations who harbor hate toward us, be they Iraqi terrorists or whoever.
But regardless, I don't trust the governments judgment as is, why would I want to give them more control over my personal well fare and moreover raise my taxes even higher?
QueenyMcfaggot 3 years ago
People who can't pull their weight? You must be some dumb naive moron. Let's see how you feel if you get cancer that eats away at your tiny brain whilst getting medical bills for thousands of dollars. Thousands of hard working Americans face the reality of never ending medical bills due to health costs. Once you are one of them, you will think differently. But by then, it will be too late for you.
traceurjason 3 years ago
That's an unfortunate reality. However, I don't believe in a system in which I sponge off of the gov't just because I'm personally in need. I do not live my life under the supposition that I will contract an incurable disease.
In the event that that happens I suppose I'll have to rely on my insurance company and hope for the best because I live in a Capitalist society.
I have views and so do you, and I would appreciate that you not insult me regardless of your stance on this issue.
Good day.
QueenyMcfaggot 3 years ago
That's your solution if you get some serious disease? Just hope for the best?! Just hope you won't go bankrupt? Just hope that your profit motivated insurance company won't screw you over? Well, good luck with that. A lot of Americans who became bankrupt from medical bills also just "hoped for the best." You are probably some naive youngster who hasn't experienced the reality of health care costs when you start getting older. But reality will give you a very rude awakening.
traceurjason 3 years ago
This system isn't perfect, but Universal Healthcare is not a solution. It's an unfortunate truth but money motivates people. Having the gov't control your wage does not motivate a person to work harder. Not to mention the horror stories I've heard of people waiting in lines to receive medical care in the E.R. no less. That is truly absurd!

Do you know that many catholic hospitals, as well as others, will not charge you if you tell them you have no insurance before you begin treatment, and that you have no way of paying for this...its called a "write off" and it happens in the city where I live all the time. You just have to be proactive and know where to go before you get sick.
jwade26 3 years ago

Health care providers and insurance companies make way too much money off of something that should be a right and not a privilege
babbrookkennel 3 years ago

What happened to you is unacceptable in a civilized society. I agree with everything you said. God bless you. We need universal healthcare.
entity3sf 3 years ago
Here in the UK we have the NHS where everybody regardless of any situation gets free healthcare. This is paid by a national insurance contribution paid by both companies and employees. Its like an extra bit of income tax BUT IT IS WORTH IT! Without it thousands of people would die each year. A small price to pay I think.
ssotairian 3 years ago

All these scare tactics brought to you by, who else, the insurance lobby!
ticnatz 3 years ago
Universal health care in theory is nice, but the reality is, it will require higher taxes which puts more money and power in the hands of the U.S. government and we've seen what they can do with money and power. I think I would rather just have affordable health care. The medical industry as a whole, they are robbing us all. Please Explain why I have to pay nearly $300 to have a doctor listen to my chest for two seconds, then refer me to specialists who then cannot properly diagnose? We R Cattle.
DeVrone007 3 years ago

Sorry to hear about your accident and bankruptcy.

There are rampant abuses of the system, not sure that Socialization of the Enterprise would make things better, the government screws up everything it touches and what it doesn't screw up it ends up stealing so the answer must lay elsewhere....
zuutoo 3 years ago
I am not an expert on insurance, nor do I work in the insurance industry. I majored in insurance and risk management in college. I do know that socialized insurance is not the answer simply based on how poorly the government runs the other programs under its control. There are no easy answers or solutions to our healthcare system, but socialized medicine isn't feasable. I do belive that healthcare can be obtained at reasonable costs if made available using sound ideas and public education.
wheelieguy 3 years ago
I don't advocate not going to the doctor, but a yearly check up should be sufficient, but by all means go if you need to. If shopping for individual health coverage, seek out policies that pay wellness benefits. Also seek out suplemental coverage that will pay you for wellness, but also for bill pay, cost of living, travel and hotel expense for family if hospitalized (I know you've seen the Aflac commercials). These supplemental policies are not expensive, some less than $10 per week.
wheelieguy 3 years ago
Another idea that would drive down the cost of medical treatment through competition and education of the public on how to use free market competion to shop out the best deal for medical service. If more people did this, the price would start dropping dramatically. Health savings accounts could also be an alternative to the high cost of health insurance. Most of the time, people will go years without having to even see a doctor, much less have specialized health treatment. In the meantime, save.
wheelieguy 3 years ago
Our current free market healthcare system isn't perfect and has many pratfalls, but it does work. No person can ever be denied healthcare in an emergency room based on their ability to pay and in most cases, cannot be forced to pay for that treatment. It is in fact against the law to refuse treatment in an ER. There are programs for people to get help in paying for ER visits through MedAssist (one entity among others). Many hospitals will also set up interest free payback schedules as well. CONT
wheelieguy 3 years ago
I am gonna lay it out for you. Socialized medicine will not work in the U.S. We spend $10000 per yer per child on education and yet we have the lowest test scores among industrialized nations. Social Security funds have been raided by politicians and will be insolvent by 2042 or before. The VA hospitals are NOTORIOUS for their bad service. And you want our government to manage healthcare for 300 million people? It would be a disaster.

And when McCain and his kind say things like: "I want every American to have the right to choose their own health care.", like caring for you own people is some kind of socialist concept, he's soooo off the mark.
thejbx 3 years ago
The only people that decide what kind of health care the average American gets are the drug and insurance companies. I'm Canadian and yes, I pay 15-30% income tax. Yes, I also pay 13% sales tax on the things I buy. But, when I broke my ankle last summer I paid $0 to have it fixed by morning. When my aunt needed a new liver, it cost her $0 and was handled by some of the best doctors in the world. Yes, we pay a little more to our government, but rest assured, they take good care of us.
thejbx 3 years ago
Now, I am by no means a cliched, internet commenting, America-hatin' Canadian. I love America and actually hope to live there some day. It is a beautiful country. But on this issue, it falters. Don't let dinosaurs like McCain let their Commie-fearin', Cold War havin', Reagan wannabe ways decide the future of your children. There is no reason to fear universal health care. We Canadians and Europeans love it. And we're not socialists. :)
Make us proud, America. Vote Obama.
Love Canada.

I think health care s/b generated and disseminated by the free mkt, by far the must efficient and effective means of innovation and organization. Unfortunately the free mkt. must be informed by morality and Christianity and we're a pretty corrupt society now, so we're having horrific problems - imploding economy etal.

Obama fights for the right of mummy-killers (and doctors) to kill their babies, for the "wellfare" of the women.
Hitler fought for the right of nazis to kill jews for the "wellfare" of his pagan nation.
All in all, none of them cared about what the killed ones thought about it. They were less and would never vote in any case.
In Occident, we have killed ten times more babies than jews by the nazis. That certainly makes us responsible of a bigger holocaust than that of Hitler.

Yes , I dare say it and repeat it.

Truthiness231 3 years ago
That said, we need to get the ball rolling on getting everyone covered. I've seen what it's like when someone isn't covered (my father isn't, and he's in debt because of it), and it's not pretty. And what would it cost us? According to the AMSA, between $34 to $69 billion per year, or less than $200 per person. There is something seriously wrong if we can't achieve this (and get a cheaper energy source , and fix our banks, and the immigration "situation", and...).

Ok, the is the "ugly part": the administrators steal a bit, like mouse eat fucking cheese and the are a lot of black holes in the box.

Universal Healthcare?

Genocide.
Defend babies, defend LIFE and then come with brilliant plans about "healthcare".

Look Genjuanpa.
Pray and be blessed.

Both arguments have merits. Why not take away the theatrics and discuss the issue with logic, compassion and reasoning?

Aren't your beliefs just as repugnant and dangerous when you are dictating what people should or should not believe?
Religion can keep people going, teach good values to children (IE Don't kill anyone etc) and makes some people very happy. It can guide their beliefs, and that's a perfectly acceptable argument.
Genjuanpa argues there will be more abortions if Obama gets in. More babys will be killed. A valid point, albeit made very badly.

I dared compare it again.
