@xOMA1HD no...that is a welsh all the way! if you say because of the tail, I have a welsh with a tail...he is super proud of it and I am now a firm believer in not docking.
@catfan5000 the past owners did not have it docked as they actually thought corgi tails fall off naturally. When we adopted him we thought it looked funny at first, but now we love it.
This isn't a Pembroke Welsh or a Welsh. It's a Cardigan Corgi, those are the breed that have tails. Pembroke Welsh Corgis AKA Welsh, or Pembroke Corgis do not have tails.
@xhunnyxbee Actually, it is a "Welsh". The breed is officially recognized as the "Cardigan Welsh Corgi". Both breeds were very important to poor Welsh farmers, and both were used as herders. Although, Pembrokes are thought to be from Spitz lines, and Cardigans are thought to be from Hound lines.
@CaptainCarthex It's a Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Most Pembrokes are born with no tail or short tails. It's very rare for them to be born with a full tail and if one is it is docked at a young age. This dog is a Cardi though. You can tell by the ears.
@ninetailedfox03 There are two types of welsh corgi, the cardigan which have tails and the pembroke which can be born without a tail or have it docked when they are born
Yay! Pembrokes with undocked tails are great :) Their tails are really unique. They hold them really straight and high when the are alert and yipping :P
BEST DIET for a Corgi is the Following: Live long Shed Less? YES! This lasts 7 days for a 2 yr old and a 10 m old. Ok Ya ready? Boil a batch of Rice and Big Sweet Potatos(in a stick of butter & quarter cup of Log Cabin Syrup. Bake a package of 10 Chicken Thighs in the Oven for 1 1/2 hours on 360.You can get a pack at Krogers for 6 Bucks. Peel meat off bones.Drain, filter broth and use it. Buy a bag of Taste of the Wild Pacific stream smoked salmon. Mix 1/3rd each part. Add xtra broth to hard.
@pitousa13 lucky you! ive been wanting a welsh corgi for ages but i just cant afford one .. theyre just too expensive :( but of course i can afford the upkeep as i have 3 other dogs LOL... buying one still is too much tho... again, LUCKY YOU XD
It's a Pembroke. Like someone else said, they are bred to have bobbed tails but sometimes that long-tailed gene comes through and that's what you get. Also, it's illegal to dock tails and ears in some countries. That's why you'll see Dobermans with ears and tails almost looking like retrievers.
it wasnt clipped it was a pembroke rather than a cardigan. The pembrokes are bred to have a bob tail. it is not docked but natural to the pembroke welsh corgis. the cardigan welsh corgis have tails.
Just to let you know [even if this dog is not full blood corgi, or is a cardigan], not all Pembrokes have no, or tiny stubby tails.
Some Pembrokes are born with stubby tails, but long ones, or a normal length tail. Normally, they are docked if that happens, but sometimes they are not. As a result, some pure bred Pembroke Welsh Corgis have normal length dog tails.
Funny how people seem to thing that magically the term "Welsh Corgi" does not apply to both the Cardigan and the Pembroke. Well people are unsure, they tend to just leave at at Welsh Corgi.
Because ya know what?
It is the Cardigan WELSH Corgi and the Pembroke WELSH Corgi.
Typically corgi tails are banded at a very young age, just a few days. They are rubber banded very tight and the tails fall off without pain. This looks like a corgi mix, because even if the tail wasnt banded it shouldnt be that fluffy at the end. They look ok with tails in my opinion, but I didnt want mine to have one as Im doing agility with him, no sense in tacking on extra weight. And corgis can swim, they have air in their lungs just like us, which makes them float just like us.
Actually there are 2 types of corgies... Cardigans that have tales and pembrokes that dont. Generally the pembroke corgies are born with out tails but if the stub is too long they will band it.
Molly has a stub of a tail which sticks up like a flag, especially as we do not let the groomer cut off the hair at the base of her stub. She is a rescue, so I do not know if she was born with a stub or it was docked. I am personally against docking tails or clipping ears no matter what breed. Would you like it?
i have 2 corgis and one hates water and the other one jumps in the pool over and over! i mean she jumps in gets out then jumps in again, then gets out its so funny!
Sorry, but, your wrong there. In many counties docking is not alowed. Though some Pembrokes are born tailless, almost all are actually born with a tail. So that leaves many Pembrokes with tails... Even in the USA where cropping is still the norm, some breeders choose not to. I could usually be able to tell a Pem from a Cardie, but this vid has very poor quaility, so I will not claim I know for sure.
Its not all about the tail. They are bred different and are different dogs. Like aan american cocker spaniel and english spaniel. differences between the Pembroke and the Cardigan are: the Pembroke usually has straighter legs as it is not quite as long- bodied as a Cardigan; the Pembroke's head is generally more wedge-shaped; the ears are smaller and closer together than the Cardigans; also the Pembroke tends to be lighter than the Cardigan.
Your dog is a sweety. Most corgis I've had have been scared of water. However, I'd be a little concerned about how the jumping affects their backs (corgis are prone to back problems)
i personally dont find a problem with it. he dived on his own, no1 pushed him in or nething. if someone threw him in, then it would have been cruel. but they weren't doing nething cruel, so its fine.
theres nothing wrong with that gosh its a dog its not like they were beeting in plus if the dog dosnt do what the owner wants it to its more likely to be agressive toword others.plus it jumped in not like they pushed it.

Pembroke welsh corgis can have tails too.
The difference between pembrokes and cardigans are not just the tails. The size and bone structure is a lot different as well.
Judging by the merle and color of the coat, and the shape of the head, this is probably a cardigan corgi.
There can also be fluffy (long haired) corgis as well.
