Very interesting. All these videos provide examples where you slide the heat shrink over an open end. That's great but how do you do it where there is no open end i.e splice into existing automotive circuit? Is it ok to cut along the length of the heat shrink and wrap over the wire?
@Knightlore10 There is no way of putting heat shrink over a factory wire that you don't cut open and then soldering back together. You also cannot cut open a heat shrink tube and wrap it over a wire; the cut shrink tube cannot hold anything to contain it.
I will most likely need to buy most of these components, what is a good price range for a temp. controlled soldering tool, heat shrinks, and wire strippers? Thanks.
For the soldering iron, check out the website parts-express, they have been around for a long time and offer many price ranges for various type. As for the wire strippers and heat shrink, you can get most things at part-express, but as for local stores, try both Radio Shack and Home Depot. Thanks for your comment.
Thanks for the informative video. It was really helpful!

@Knightlore10 I cut through the auto wire too and then slide a heat shrink in and solder all ends together

@Knightlore10
If the circuit is closed, why would you need heat shrink over it?
