The following is take straight from the Ontario fishing regulations:
It is illegal to:
-Possess a spring gaff, snagger or spear gun within 30 m (98 ft.) of any waters. A spring gaff includes any spring loaded device which sets the hook for an angler. No person shall take fish with a gaff, snare, snagger or spear gun. A gaff, other than a spring gaff, may be used to assist in landing fish caught by lawful means.
@canmoore Taken literally, one could argue that the IcefishAmatic does not meet the description in this regulation. There is no spring, therefore it is not spring loaded.
wmiddle, this is an innovative and simple but great product. Please dont listen to the trolls on youtube that diss your product. Id like to buy both the icefishAmatic and also the fishAmatic.
@CanistotaCrusader78 :) Actually, I've sold thousands of these around the world. Try this with a paper clip and when it doesn't work, maybe you'll see that it's worth the $5. I've paid that much for a soda at a ball game.
Is there no size limits in the US or how does it work in the US? To me it seems like a small fish for keeping, when they grow up to 12 - 16 inches or are they used for bait to catch a big predator?
@TheCichlidGeek yes the US has serveral fishing regulations that relate to size that vary from state to state and even from lake to lake depending on where you are at. The species of sunfish caught here is, ( I believe anyway) a bluegill which is a very common sport-fish and the one that he caught was decent size and they are in my opinion of of the best tasting fish out there. If i caught a 16 inch bluegill I would be putting it on the wall haha.
@mzimmermann01 Thank you very much, it's something I have been wondering alot about. It's a bit hard to judge in general when you like me don't know these species other then from pictures and youtube, some of them looks like they are kinda small to keep and not really worth the effort of cleaning and cooking. I mainly do catch n release fishing.
There are lots of comments regarding the force of the spring action that sets the hook. This is completely adjustable by how much the pole is bent. Bending the pole less will result in less of a pop. It's pretty simple. Thanks for all of the feedback.
the only downfall is that the pole sets the hook immidiately once the fish touches your bait. when i fish, especially for bass, i will feel a "hit" and give the fish a second or two to really get the bait in its mouth and not just a nibble (the fish not biting the hook, just the edge of your bait)
@Chhhyaaaa May not be as fun for bluegill and other panish, I will agree with you on that, but just think about using that as a tip up for pike! It's a really neat invention if you're looking to use it on larger species of fish, but for bluegill, I don't think it would be as much fun either!
@4skoolin2learn0 lol i wouldnt be surprised if people put that thing on shallow depth and a bluegill came up sub surface and the setter just ripped the gill up on the ice
this is fucking stupid, and illegal

Its a very nice idea. But the most fun of catching a fish is setting the hook and reeling it in. But i still really like your idea.

I busted out laughing when it hooked a fish. what is the point of this? I guess someone is meat hunting. This takes no skill at all to hook a fish.

it's a down-rigger for blue gills. guess you need a stick with some back bone to set the hook. Cool innovation!
tohairylittlewomen 3 months ago
that takes all of the fun out of the rush you get sprinting after that tip up or watung for that big bite
InZaNePrEcIsIoN 4 months ago
@InZaNePrEcIsIoN It Counts as a Tip up in most states so you set this out then go slay some more on your jiggin stick!
gyled 3 months ago
why would you use this on bluegills?
4skoolin2learn0 4 months ago
@4skoolin2learn0 I agree. Seems a little lazy to me. Maybe if you have a couple of them set up at once.
rangaman86 4 months ago
@4skoolin2learn0 well really during ice fishing you could catch anything but i guess bluegills were biting that day but it is overkill on bluegill
