Thank you. You have given me the courage to take the plunge and rock my baby locs. Because you're right it is just hair. I have been so scared of having short hair that i was actually thinking of paying a FORTUNE for loc extensions. But now you have made me realize that it is JUST hair and it will grow. Thanks again ( :
Words of wisdom. Everything you said was true. I'm guilty of that but you're totally right. We should love our hair and white people should love their hair and so on and so on. Thanks for posting this.
girl watever u sexy as s*** and u know it lol .....but yea mine is around 8 months old they look great i injoy seeing them grow so im so not in a rush i alwas had long hair for 7-8 years so tryed new look cut it off but hair cutz hurt i mean damn they not cheap so started locks and yea i luv em.... but yo on da real ma ...yo ass can get it lol
This is such an inspirational vid, Aja. I have been wanting to start my locks for awhile now, and I was considering doing so via loc extensions. Mainly, because I didn't want to deal with short locks, so thank you for this video. It really helps.
I luv you message. I have locs and they are 2 1/2 yrs old and when I started mine they were soooo short that I couldn't even shake them lol but I LOVED every stage of my journey. I think it depends on the individual. I have a friend who started their locs and wore a wig until their hair was about 1yr old. So Idk.
I like the message in this vid. embrace who you are, embrace difference. I dont attach the word beautiful to long hair. I didnt even know of loc extensions till i got locked a wk ago. Part of the reason being that i realized that my hair was often in extensions.. relaxed or natural and i am just letting my hair do its own thing- tangles into beauty. I don't like to be the 'norm'. In fact, i dislike the idea of normality. Idon't ever want hair to contol my emotions... x
Aja you are so pretty. I could just, look at you all day lol... Anyway, yeah having short locs can be discouraging if you feel that theyre not growing fast enough. Theyre also kind of irritating bc you cant really do anything with them as far as braiding them or putting them in a pony tail...but hey everyone, we all go thru that stage so dont get discouraged early on. Really, just keep them neat and forget about them. Next thing you know, you'll be getting compliments on how beautiful they are..
@winMillz Aw, thank you for your compliment! I definitely don't think about my locs very much, but other people have complimented me on them anyway, even though they're still short. I just appreciate them at whatever stage they're going through...I think that shows and allows others to appreciate them too!
I am definitely learning to get over disliking my short locs. I'm only 2 months in my loc journey but I'm learning sooo much about my hair. As well as about really knowing that my beauty comes from within no matter how my hair is!
yessss!!!! for this dayum vid!!! I love ur whole outlook this is one of the most needed advice vids for loc starters!! I simply combd mine out 3 times becus i cudnt get past this stage. At that time i jus was so insecure. But now ive done my big chop n im headed bak to my loc journey! We can stress out about hair so much but at the end of the day its just hair. Im soo happy i found this vid. N now im excited n realize that locs are a lifestyle not a hairstyle but its no need to stress over it.
@shamia3121 I'm so glad this video helped you. Also, I'm happy to hear that you're going to start your loc journey again. Don't give up and stay positive!! If you ever decide to do videos showing your locs in the future, let me know. I'd love to see them! :-)
Great video! I realized recently I still have an obsession with long hair. I thought with starting locks I over come it but I still see myself always looking to the next year instead of enjoying the way they look now. I say at 3 years I'll be happy...meaning I'm still miserable with how my hair looks now lol. I believe long hair = beauty is programmed into most black women...we don't realize it. Great video. And you are so pretty if you were bald you would still be beautiful!
@tbey82 Thanks for your compliment!! I can't imagine your locs at 3 years, only because I love them so much as they are now. I think they fit your face VERY well, and the length is perfect for you. If they stopped growing right now, I'd think they look great! :-)
And yeah, the older I get and the more at peace I become with my natural hair, the more I realized how programmed we are to believe that we need to have long "swingy" hair to be cute. I wish on a whole we'd stop taking it so seriously.

One part of going natural is staying away from that stupid weave!! Black folks are so addicted to it.
