  • that must have been really fun with 6 pound test.

  • how the hell did you land tht fish withonly 6 pound test on you line i dnt get it but holy crap tht is a big ass fish

wht type of line were you useing stren trilene wht cus tht line held up

  • if you don't mind me asking what kind of rod are you using in the video model and make. Thanks John

  • It's a Lamiglass 8ft Steelhead. rated 6- 12lb test.

  • where are you guys fishing

  • Raritan Bay May

  • thanks for the advice i now have a penn med/hev 7 foot power stick plus and the reel is a penn 320 gt2

  • wwhat size and action ugly stick do u reccamen for stripers and blues also a reel please answer...

  • As far as affortable stuff, I really like the Penn Slammers 260 or bigger. They run $129. I also love the Penn Slammer rods in 7 foot medium action for about $29. They should last forever. Ugly sticks are OK, but have NO back bone. A good rod should be stiff at the lower half of the rod, and limber at the top 2-3 feet. Ugly Sticks flex all the way through the reel seat-NO GOOD! I use Penn rods in all of the videos, except for the light line Striper, that is a Lamiglass.

    Hope this helps,

    Mike

  • those accurate reels are sick

  • what bait you use ?

  • Live and cut Bunker,(Menhaden)

  • man does it take really long to get a decent striper in using 6lb test cause im only using 8lb test for stripers with a 7'6 ML rod lol.. so how long it take you to get this one in looks like a really nice fight

  • Yeah, that's about how long it should take. Of course, we were not in any hurry. That fish hit a half Bunker wich was casted WAY out to begin with, then took a bunch of line. We tried getting nastier with a few earlier fish, but broke them off.I HIGHLY recommend adding around 6-8 feet of 40lb mono above the wire leader or hook.Just use a uni knot so you can reel the connection threw the eyes for casting.Of course, if there are no Blues around, nix the wire. Thanks for the comment Brother.Mike

  • LOL dont get me wrong or anything im not talking trash on how long it took you cause i was just wondering cause you know its my first time using 8lb test becuz i want a good fight on a striper since my biggest striper is barely 30inches but it was on 50lb braid and it took me about 5 min. or mayb less but man if i hook into something like 30+inches i think im in trouble on 8lb test just like guys are lol

  • I gotcha man, I didn't think that at all. I think as long as you use a long heavy mono leader (for shock and gill plate abrasion). And if you have plenty of room to maneuver with no other boats, buoys or obstacles, you should Go For IT!!

  • Dang! That looks like fun.

Not sure if 6lb would work in a decent current.

  • Bjordan, You are Dead-On with that comment. I think we have all gotten in a little trouble while going a little too light in a current that's a little too fast! Fortunatly for us, the tide was slack,(and there was no tournament). So Why Not ? Right?- Mike
