  • You taught me to knit socks and now I am totally addicted. I made the first 2 pairs using DPNs and your video then switched to magic loop and made 4 more pairs with little needles and fine yarn! Your tutorials are excellent and I'm doing something I never thought I could because you gave me the confidence to try. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise and talent for teaching.

  • @darlineken You're welcome! Thank you for the nice note!

  • I always find my cast on edge is way too tight - i even notice you said 'i wish i'd done a looser cast on'! Tips?

  • @halep09 Yes - normally I will just consciously loosen up and not pull my cast-on so tightly. I've seen other people use a larger needle for casting on, or holding two needles together. Hope that helps!

  • wow! Thanks so much for this great tutorial! I now need to go learn to knit all over again and hold my working yarn the way you do.....

  • This looks great! I have to try this. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos for people like me who don't get knitting from written instructions!

  • I have what might appear to be a completely random question, do you have a video on how to make the shaw in the background? It really caught my attention. I looks wonderful and I am a huge fan of earth-tone colors as well so it really stood out to me… to the point of distracting me while trying to learn how to do the magic loop. ha ha, sorry for not paying attention teacher.

  • @j2cool2 That shawl is called "Sexy Shawl" (I didn't name it), and it is my own design. The pattern appears in the book "Crazy Aunt Purl's Drunk, Divorced and Covered in Cat Hair", and that's the only place it appears since I sold the rights to it. The book is available on Amazon. :)

  • I LOVE THE MAGIC LOOP METHOD! But it should be noted that you can only do the magic loop with a LONG circular needle and one with a soft plastic joining works best. I I have bamboo needles with surgical tubing joining and its WONDERFUL because it's so limp and flexible!

  • io ti adoro

  • @1103Cathy Très bien! Je ne parle pas français (je suis en utilisant le logiciel à traduire pour moi). Bonne chance dans vos chaussettes peu!

  • i love your videos but when i knit the first stitch to bring it together it just makes a huge piece of string where it is supposed to come together and i don't know how to fix it and i know you can help

  • @noodletech30 You need to make sure that the first couple of stitches (after the cast on) are pulled pretty tightly. Even if there is a bit of extra yarn there, it will magically disappear after a few more rounds. Everyone worries about this part. Try knitting for a few more rounds and see what happens. :)

  • Hi there. I purchased your sock pattern but the pattern was not big enough to knit a pair for my husband so I ended up buying a patt & used your videos for help. It was very helpful. I am now knitting a single rib pattern- k1, p1 & the patt now says to 'rib2tog' . Which st do I do? A knit or a purl? Thank you

  • @juleejulee Hmmm...I have never seen "rib2tog" before. I'm guessing that it means to work a decrease while maintaining the rib pattern you have established. Did the designer give a definition of this stitch somewhere in the book or pattern? I would contact the designer if he/she did not.

I'm glad the videos are helping you knit socks! :)

  • I really like the way you do your long tail cast on. Could you do it more slowly, because you did it so fast I couldn't catch it.

    peggy

  • @pegschr I have a separate video demonstrating the long tail cast on - I can't link to it here, but you can search on my channel for "Knitting Help - Long Tail Cast-On".

  • For the cuff, what pattern did you use? I could've sworn you said two purl and then something else, but I'm not too sure. thanks!

  • @kookykat0209 The details for all of the specific stitch combinations are in the pattern. The pattern is available for purchase and download on my website, and a link is here in the video description. :)

  • Thank you, thank you.... I have been wanting to knit for so long. You make sound so easy and the visuals are good. Your my next best friend. Ciao

  • Do you have a preference on what needles are made of? Bamboo vs aluminum vs wood, etc? I have been trying to learn with an aluminum circular needle and my stiches keep sliding off. Also, the cable is so stiff. Are the cables on the addi's like this? Are there any circs that have a more flexible cable? Thanks a bunch for the videos and patterns. It is great to be able to buy a pattern and having you show how to use it.:)

  • @lisarayone It depends. For circular needles, I prefer Addis, and for double-points, I prefer wood or bamboo. Inexpensive aluminum circular needles are really difficult to work with, as you discovered. Addi and Knit Picks circulars have really nice cords and joins.

  • great video! very clear and easy to follow

  • @dankimforde This tutorial shows the techniques used on almost every basic cuff-down sock pattern, but if you'd like to follow along with this specific pattern, it is available for purchase and download at verypink dot com. The specifics (needle size, etc) are all available in the pattern. :)

  • @AmyW1205 One hank of Cascade 220 (or 200 yards of any worsted-weight yarn) is enough to knit the whole pair. In fact, you'll have plenty left over!

  • @AmyW1205 I'm unable to link directly to the page here, but the pattern is available on my website - verypink dot com. Click on "Designs and Free Patterns", and scroll down until you come to "Learn to Knit Magic Loop Socks". There is also a direct link on my YouTube channel page.

  • Thank you so much for these videos-I was finally able to knit a pair of socks that I'm thrilled with.

    Cheers,

    Terry

  • I think I'm finally going to be able to do this :) Thanks for posting :)
