  • How much dose one of these costs theses days??Im in Ireland but cant find them,,any info would be good, thanks

  • nice, but why do you need 5 bottles on the bicycle...are there no places to fill 2 bottles on the way?

  • Out of curiosity, what is the advantage to a bar-end shifter? Thanks in advance, wilkor

  • How much did you get this bike for?

  • it needs a brooks

  • I want to get a touring bike I can buy a 2010 kona touring bike with both racks for 900 or get a bare bones Surly LHT 2011 for $1100 anyone have any suggestions or opinions

  • That's a serious machine.

  • I just got my Surly LHT in November 2010 ,in Black with 26 ''Inch Wheels and I just had to get a Brooks Flyer Saddle for it the one that came with it I just did not like. It is a beautiful Bike very Smooth. I just love that front Carrier on your Bike,I would love to have it.

My Bike is the same as yours not much difference than the 2008 Model that I can see. I have a Tortec Carrier on the Rear rated for 35kilo and SKS Mudguards in Silver.

  • pimpin!..can you please tell me the brand of your rear pannier rack and whether it is either steel or alloy?

  • I love Surly Frames.

I have a Surly Cross Check myself and combined the Ultegra STI with some Tektro RX5 Mini-V....works much more better than these kind of canti-brakes.

  • Were can I get racks like these for my Next bike?

  • yo have amazing bike man , good luck with your bike D:

  • i just got a long haul trucker today now i need to move the racks off my old bike

  • what's the update on performance?

You've had it for a while now...so after the ?km's that you put on what's the scoop?

  • LHT is ok, but I much prefer my Waterford 1900. Kogi-Miyata's seem to be the most touring specific.

  • is south korea a good country for touring? i'm thinking about moving to teach english, and would love to take my surly

  • LHT's look sacrilegious without a brooks saddle.

  • I've been looking into this trek of yours, and from experience, I'm betting against you. I've seen pictures of you bike fully loaded and you have way to much. I've done much solo unsustained touring. I've got three bikes that accept racks packs and fenders. I've dealt directly with Ortlieb distributers in Washinton State. I use 4 sport packer plus bags only as recommended. You have a tank of a bike that can carry too much for your own good. I'm concerned that you may injure yourself.

  • well vardamin youre just gods gift arent you? go climb a tree.

  • I've ridden over 2000 miles in under 35 days on 3 different occasions. Have you? And these guys didn't make it. They never got off the ground. Sorry, but that's the truth.

  • @vardamin um... yeah i have. if youre going to try to flex on the internet, 60 miles a day isnt really going to impress anybody. just dont understand why you'd be negative towards somebody for wanting to give it a go.. especially for a cause.

  • @beerisstupid It's not the 60 mile a day average, it's the 2000. Or it's the 5800 in 3 and a half months. Or it's the 3500 in 56 days. Back in the beginning it was 1050 miles in 11 days over a 13 day period. Or it's the 22000 miles total. I've had many days over 100 or in the 90s or 80s. You got to take a day off once in a while. These guys had big aspirations, but they should have done tour across the states first. They never did get off the ground.

  • @beerisstupid Have you done any long distance bicycle rides? Last year I rode from Louisiana to California and back, then from Louisiana to Nashville Tn and back via the Natchez Trace. You would not believe the network of people I have across the country. If you're interested in hooking up for a long ride, I'm considering going across the country. I would like the company, and I've done around 22000 miles of solo touring, so I'm not bullshitting you.

  • SWEET!! I like them Surly Nice Racks ya got on there! :D

  • WOW looks real nice. Wish i had a bike like that:P I'm now using an old Peugeot PX8. Still runs good :)

  • Wow this looks almost exactly like my SLHT except the pedals were double sided one side cleats the other sides a platform. Tubus rear rack and a dynamo front hub the drive train is the exact same one I have on my LHT Iam hoping you can give me an update on how you like your setup. Iam hoping to shave a few pounds off my LHT not sure where to start though... I'd really like to have a LHT that didn't weigh as much as a tank

  • Good luck on your trip. I hope you make plans to change your chain often. If you put a lot of lube on your chain, spend some time cleaning it off. After riding through shit conditions, when the sun comes out, spend some time cleaning. A new chain, a clean chain, equals better spinning and more miles. Clean your rims and brake pads too. Dirt equals wear and tear. And take some chances. I don't wear back packs or anything on my body besides cloths. Plastic bags keep the feet dry.

  • Thanks for your advice, I looked at the Zefal pumps but they weren't rated as well as the Topeak Morph,so I went with that. I need that mounting bracket to keep the pump off my brake lines, that's why it's there. Once I add my fuel container to my seat tube, I'm not gonna have any other place to mount the pump. I certainly hope I'm lucky like you and don't break any spokes, we'll be doing a lot of low-grade roads so we want to be safe, especially out in the middle of the Gobi or Kazakhstan.

  • It's not luck. If you're a big guy, 200+, you pull a trailer. If your new to cycling touring, and you're an american (american's have a penchant for taking way to much with them) and you're riding on factory wheels, you might have problems with rear drive side spokes, the achilles heal, that and seat post clamps. You should build your own wheels, or at least have that experience. The SLHT is a tank. Just cause you can take so much with you does not mean it's a good idea.

  • @vardamin I agree. I am a bigger rider...........250 lus. I have a 40 hole font and 48 hole rear set o Dyad rims laced to Phil Wood Touring Hbs. Handbuilt and an take my weight and what ever I put on the rear rack. Factory weels bite in my humble opinion.

  • I agree with vardamin on the pump. I don't think vardamin knows that there in a new Zefal hpx that gets poor ratings. I believe the pump he's talking about is now refered to as the "zefal hpx classic". That's a nice frame fitting pump.

  • @thelonghaulforhunger ratings? ha! I'd take the zefal hpx over a topeak morph peice of shit anyday. It's been the same design for over 30 years. French products kick ass! You're a fool and don't know what your talking about. Did you ever finish your ride? Ratings??? you're too funny. What about experience?

  • @thelonghaulforhunger You're a fraud.

  • I've done over 15000 miles of unsustained touring and I've never broken a spoke. The last tour I took this past summer, I was a mile from home when I realized I forgot spare spokes. Oh well.... in the past they were just extra baggage. I left tham at home. 2000 miles later I was back home. Hey! Get rid of that silly pump and hardware and get a zefal hpx frame fitting pump. It's #1 in my book and many others agree. You can lose that silly mount. The bike is built for a zefal hpx pump.
