I had the opportunity to meet him in Dallas at the showing of the Robotech Movie, and had the pleasure of having him autograph my Megazone 23 Roman Album. You did a great job Mr. Macek, combining three different shows was a necessary step in bringing these shows to the world outside Japan. RIP.
I had the pleasure of meeting Carl Macek in 1994. Very nice guy and I always felt fans were too hard on him. He was nice enough to pose for a pic for me at a convention and an anime fan comes by and says "oh, I hate at you". Said it in a playful way though and Carl just smiled anyway and the kid spoke to him for a bit. Carl had class.
Just found out he passed and I'm pretty shocked. I've always been a huge Robotech addict ever since the show first aired. It was the highlight of my afternoon after coming home from school. I used to draw it all the time and I'm still in awe of the toys nowadays. Thanks for everything, Carl. We owe you a lot.
I remember rushing home from school to watch Robotech. If it wasent for carl i would of prob not goten into anime or gotten into it a lot later.
now i have all it on DVD. Including the remake of macross in english with JP voices included and southern cross and mospedia subbed. Still really want the movie tho.
R.I.P. Carl Macek you will be missed. Many thanks for bringing macross and the other shows for the Robotech collection.
I gave myself Robotech for Xmas and it returned me back to 1985 when I fell in love with lisa hayes and I was rick hunter. people may hate him for what he did to macross, but to me, if it wasn't for Carl Macek, I wouldn't have known hikaru, misa, and the macross saga. Thank you sir for bringing lisa hayes and rick hunter, max, mirila, dana and maia sterling, claudia, roy fokker, scott bernard, and lynn minmay to our generation. R.I.P.
Farewell, big brother. May the SDF-1 carry you to the stars and beyond. I can already hear the 21 Veritech salute in your honour. You will always be remembered!
Man, soo sad to hear about this!! Anime becoming Mainstream in this country is owed to him! Robotech was the FIRST anime I fell in love with! What's sad is Just like Jim Varney and George Carlin, the media didn't give a shit. No one I saw did a report on this or anything! I'll be flyin' my U.N. Spacy flag at half mast today..
Before anything THANK YOU SO MUCH for the memories, you made me dream once again with ROBOTECH, and guess that to many more, as long as we remember you and your work, you´ll never be forgotten, i think that that is how a person become inmortal.
Rest in Peace and To the Stars Carl Macek
And thanks to TheRobotechFans for this beautiful video
It's a major loss indeed for someone who's done plenty of amazing works with the anime franchise that people loved all over. And yet we often forget that we took things for granted since its inception into the anime public eyes.
My heart feels heavy, but it is a pain that will die quickly. Not because i am not hurt by this loss, but because he has left so much of him and his love behind for us to keep enjoy and love. Carl Macak, you made me think of storytelling and writing in a whole new way, and shaped me as a writer forever. For that i salute you. And for all the good memories i thank you. You will be missed.
Let's not forget all the other great anime he brought to the US for the first time though Streamline Pictures: Akira, Nadia, Silent Mobius, Fist of the Northstar, and Totoro (through Troma). I had the privilege of working for him in Streamline's model shop. I'll always be grateful he gave this inexperienced model-sculptor his first shot in the creative field. Carl, you will be missed.
No words can truely describe the feeling of loss I feel. This is a beautiful and fitting tribute to the Father of Robotech and our friend Carl Macek. May you rest in peace my mentor, my friend.
De verdad estoy muy conmovido. No sabia que tan unido me sentía a Carl hasta que supe de su partida. la verdad nos dejó un tesoro inestimables del que hemos disfrutado y desfrutaremos toda nuestra vida. R.I.P. Carl Macek y que podamos seguir el legado que nos dejaste.
