  • A nice happy, cheerful tune... Got that 'bouncy-ness' to it! Sort of got me nodding my head side to side with a smile!

  • It's hard to enjoy this music, knowing that as it was performed at the Olympics (by children selected for their Aryan looks, no doubt), Nazi flags waved and uniformed Nazi officials looked on.

This music was pretty decoration for one of history's great horrors.

  • Of course the "Nazi" flags waved since the Swastika banner was the official flag of the German state as your funny Maple Leaf is your official flag -- do I complain? And that German men wore German uniforms isn't disgusting at all. I love uniforms. You might have a slight Nazi complex, sir. Germany back in 1936 was, however, a much greater and better country than modern-day democratic, weak and self-hating piece-of-shit "Germany." And German children performing German music is also great.

  • @HerrWagnerfreund Your post is vile. You condemn yourself with your own words. By 1936, the 'Sondergerichte' (Special Courts) had condemned thousands of political undesirables, all German nationals, to death. Some were 'guilty' of nothing more than labor union activism or expressing Liberal views. The concentration camp system was operational and the liquidation of Jews, gypsies and other enemies was under way. Naziism was no more than state-sanctioned murder. You celebrate this? Disgusting.

  • Sir, I know that I'll go to Hell. And that's good. I wouldn't know anyone in Heaven.

  • @searcherboy - why do you have to be so hateful, geez. It's Olympics. An international sports event, attended by 49 nations. There were many BEAUTIFUL things going on in the world during Nazi period, believe or not. Children were born, beautiful music was played, flowers were growing. Apparently, for you it's all black and white though. Well, it must be easy to live like that.

  • @searcherboy If they were, we known they looked nothing like Hitler, Himmler, or Goebbels (maybe Goering before he put on weight and started wearing makeup to staff meetings)--Hypocrites on top of everything else!

  • Wirklich schön! Eigenwillig und so ganz anders als Carmina Burana, was man sonst immer von Carl Orff hört. Danke sehr!

Really beautiful, thank you so much!

  • Compare this after 6:16 and /watch?v=mvmzyqJtWxs

  • Lovely composition for children. Surprised it was composed for the German Olympics. Thank you. Thank you to Doug@CurzonRoad for sharing. Maya

  • The “Procession” music score appears in both the English and German printed editions (Volume III) of Orff-Schulwerk, published by Schott Music.

  • Phonograph records of these Olympic compositions were made so that the approximately 6000 Berlin school children involved in the opening ceremonies could learn the dances that would accompany the music. The music included Einzug und Reigen der Kinder und Mädchen (Procession and Round Dance of the Children and Young Girls) and Tänze und Spiele der Jugend (Dances and Games of Youth).

  • The recorded legacy of Orff Schulwerk dates back to this 1936 78rpm recording of the Jugendorchester der Günther-Schule (The Günther-School Youth Orchestra) under the direction of Gunild Keetman. The authorship of the music composed for the event is widely attributed to Gunild Keetman, however, a large number of drafts and final copies of scores in Orff’s hand have led some researchers to believe that Orff may have orchestrated the music.

  • Oh!!! que feliz, que libre la composición.

  • Awesome. Thanks so much for this great, rare addition.

  • "much too white" Yeah! Why show whimsicality, wit and melodic harmony when you can rant about how big your dick is and how many homies you've shot to fuck against the backdrop of a stolen heavy metal track.

  • Nigga got served!

  • Brincar de roda

    numa festa sem fim

    - ao som do Titã Orff.

  • Carl Orff was not a Nazi. They hated the freedom of expression in his teaching approach.

  • He was a German, a patriot and a great musician. And if he had been a National Socialist, I would only shout: Heil Hitler, Mr. Orff. You won't believe it but most Germans were National Socialists, also the "elite", the authors, composers and so on. Who cares. I also like Brecht's plays although he was an ugly communist.

  • @SamHawkens best comment ever!

  • @SamHawkens What a slick rationalization. Anyone who would shout "Heil Hitler", metaphorically or otherwise, for any reason, is an idiot. Most Germans were not members of the Nazi party - though millions of Germans were complicit, either passively or actively, in acts of genocide and war crimes. Who manned the railroads that shipped millions of Jews to the death camps? Who manufactured Zyklon B? Ordinary Germans. Who cares? Germans do, for one. HIstory will never forget.

  • And: you don't have to be a member of the party to be a National Socialist. Most Germans supported NS ideology, and I can only say? Why shouldn't they? Until 1939, the National Socialist government succeeded in everything the democrats weren't able in 14 years. They re-united the Altreich with Austria and Bohemia which is for us what Wales is for the English, they broke the unfair Versailles Treaty and so on. That's why Germans supported them, and if we'd won the war, still would do.

  • Thats so beutiful! remember when i was in Berlin stadiun in olimpic games! Remember my father and all my family! I am was a so happy! I was Believe in germany people! This music make me happy! Family, brothers and hope! Thats what this music make me feel!

  • Do you still live in Germany? You must have seen so many things!

  • It is an unexpected piece from Carl Orff. I enjoy it too.Despite what happened in the past, it is a really good music for children. My son enjoy it too.

  • Do not forget the time this was written...

  • separate art and ideology, ey..

  • It was written for children of course. Your criticism is valid based on your criteria, but does that mean everyone should use these same criteria? Is everything you don't like bad?

  • @merrihew Thanks for posting this unheard of rarity!

  • Extraordinary observation and excellent comment!!!!!

  • @wehaveasituation Well, you have to bear in mind the child-like intellect (combined with low animal cunning) and complete lack of taste of his patron on this piece.

  • After the apocalyptic "Carmina Burana" these sound really weird and unexpected...

  • Interesting to hear this. Like Orff, Dolmetsch in England pioneered recorder use by children. It does not sceme to me to particularly "Third Reich" music, as one of the comments suggests

  • The music is pleasant to listen to. I enjoyed it. I've wanted to hear this piece since learning about it some time ago. Thank you for posting it.

  • @gerubach. Its better to think before you are talking man. Im from Austria and Carl Orff is great as well. Great Conductor, Great Music !!!!! I dont know whats the Problem with This Vid. Shut up

  • The section from about 1:30 onwards is VERY Third Reich. Imagine it with horns and drums and about five thousand men and tanks....It is just the fact that it is played upon recorders that makes it children's music.

  • No wonder Jesse Owens ran so fast!

  • VERY FUNNY!!

  • Those Nutty Nazis! I wonder if the "Recorders" they played on this recording where white as well?

  • This music accompanied a dance piece by 5,000 white clad children.

  • This music (played by Hitler Youth trained by Keetman) accompanied 5,000 children, dressed in white, who danced on the green in the stadium's center. Choreography was by Dorothea Gunther, in who's young adult dance school Orff was the Music Director.

  • telefunken---Die Deutsche Weltmarke :D:D:D:D

  • Mos def Carl Orff but it is strange has the Nazi showcase about it? what u think?

  • Interesting piece...has some of the bounciness that even some of "Carmina Burana" had.

  • If any of you played simple instruments like xylophones or recorders in music class as children, those are known as "Orff instruments." He pioneered that method of teaching music to children by having them play and participate.

  • Stop pulling my teeth it hurts!!!! Oh the pain!!! I'm kidding. The mix is bad, it isn't a bad piece. You almost never hear this song anywhere!

  • Excellent and fascinating!!!

  • This record is a rare and significant find! Were it not for a copy of this same record found by Dr. Walter Panofsky of Bavarian Broadcasting in a Munich thrift store in 1948, the music education approach known as Orff Schulwerk would never have been continued and adapted for children and would not have made it to the United States in the 1960s. I wonder if the owner of this record would consider selling this record to the American Orff-Schulwerk Association for archiving and safekeeping.

  • All the opeople who love this music must hear the musica poetica; and it´s You Tube too!

  • its called "mood". its different. it doesn't have to mean he had dual personalities or anything except creativity.

  • Fantastic! I'm substitute teaching at the Sholom school this week--this will make for wonderful a curriculum.

  • I wish I could get this video to loop so I can listen to it again and again and again

  • Great!! Thanks for this! ^_^

  • Extremely rare recording, thanks a million times for uploading.

  • Wow! I strongly urge viewers to check out the video response.

  • That is a sad story. Were you aware that this record existed? I have been unable to find out anything about it.

  • I once read the marathoner's autobiography, and he said that He met Carl Orff when he visited the house of Professor Mi-Rok Lee(Korean) of Munchen University. According to the Book, Orff gave a record which contains 'Music for the Olympics of his own composition' for Souvenir, with his Autograph on the record's label. But Son the Marathoner lost the record during the Korean War. And I think that This record is the very same record which Orff gave to Son.

  • Doubtful. Other copies of this record exist; Larry Holdridge sold some in his record auction last year.

  • He didn't mean the actual same copy of the record; just another copy of the same recording.

  • Wow..! It's nice to see this record in your channel, because I really tried to find this record...! Thanks for Posting. The 1936 Olympic has a great significance for Koreans, because the Korean Marathoner Ki-Jung Son won a Gold medal in the Olympic (with the World Record of Time). Sadly, by that time, Korea was a colony of Japan and he was a representative of Japan. So he have to stand on the honor platform with Japanese Flag..

  • But he was a Korean anyway ^_^
