I am singing this in Russian chorus I think, Anyway it has the same title and the first part of the lyrics do seem the same, it has such a fluffy wonderful sound as if you were drifting over those waters if you were joined with the military, you would fluffed up like a proud sparrow, zooming to the destination so clear and beautiful...
How glorious is our God in Sion, no tongue can fashion praise of worth! Exalted on his throne in heaven, mighty is he upon the earth. The night and day, they sing in elation: The Lord is glorious in is creatioin.
Verse 2
You ever shine bright rays of sunlight on all the children of Your love, before us you prepare a table, and Build a city high above. As near to us as You, is no other- whose grace we mortal creatures discover.
It is indeed a miracle that Russia is again a devout Christian nation. It is no surprise that this piety and devotion has taken so strong a hold in the Russian military. Glory to God! And Glory to Orthodox Rus!
Amazing how Russia, one of the most devout and conservative Christian nations could become an athiest state. It does not surprise me that many people now return to God, a very good thing. I loved USSR, but not its views of religion.
There are no athieists in foxholes. The overwhelming number of Russian soldiers, like soldiers in all other armies, fought for their comrades and country, not for any political ideology. I am so glad that Christians can openly practice their faith in Russia once again without repercussions. God bless all those who kept the Faith for these many years. May they rest in peace.
u nlike american preachers who talk war and want someone else to fight it for them, HOLY TRUE CHURCH OF KRIST ROSSIYAN PRIESTS served and continue to serve in THE HOLY RED ARMY. many were awarded both the Order Of The Sovyet Union and Order Of The HOLY Motherland during THE GREAT HOLY WAR against the fascist nazi invaders. no other nation suffered as HOLY MOTHER ROSSIYA and no other nation overcame adversity and achieved HOLY VICTORY as HOLY MOTHER ROSSIYA. i am ISRAELI JEW and i salute You RUS!
Seeing the pictures of the priests and the russian soldiers. I wonder if any one went to check and see if Lennin was spinning in his glass coffin in red squire.
This melody was sung last Sunday, May 24th at 10th Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. This lovely hymn is Eastern Orthodoxy's gift to all of Christendom. Kol Slaven! Slava Rossiya!
What a shame to link this marvel to military, same fault as the german army that sings this song in their ceremony "Zapfenstreich" with german translation "Ich bete an die Macht der Liebe" "I pray for the power of love) !?!
A shame? Au contraire! Some of the strongest believers that I know are soldiers, whilst some of the greatest cowards I know are unbelievers... be careful how you express yourself! It is good that this song is linked with the military and soldiers...
I am an American and a Ukrainian Catholic. We sing it too almost every Sunday. It reminds me that all Eastern Christians have a unique unity whether Orthodox or Catholic in the cross that was conveyed by our holy forefathers from Constantinople, Kiev and Moscow and all other sees. It also reminds me at this time, as it should remind all the Eastern Faithful, to remember the late Russian Patriarch in their prayers. God Grant Him Eternal Rest and pray for Russia.
Words fail me,this is just so so beautiful.I found that it was sometimes used as the Russian national anthem between February and Novemebr 1918,it's a pity that Russia does not use it nowadays, rather than the old USSR nonsense tune. Can you imagine this superb song being sung frequently in an olympic stadium?
This hymn is just magnificent and powerful... I absolutely LOVE it! All Christians, no matter if Orthodox, Catholic, Protestant or whatever, should know this hymn...
The melody is quite well known in Russia's neighbour countries, too. Like my country, Finland...
In here it's mostly known with very patriotic lyrics by a Finnish poetist A. Roos ... If I remember correctly, the history says that the Russian Czar ordered this melody to be sung in the Finnish "riksdag"...

Are you from the Moon or something? IF Russian Church ever served someone beside God that would be Russia and it's people, not Red Army.

@geraldrim It was the anthem of Admiral Kolchak's government in Siberian during the civil war.

@geraldrim: Great song, no idea what you're on about. If you don't like Russian soldiers, that's your problem, not the author's.

This song is widely known and used in churches in Estonia, including the baptists, methodists and Lutheran church. A traditional hymn.
"Ma kummardan Sind, armuvägi,
mis Jeesuses end ilmutand.
Ma astun armastuse ligi,
mis põrmu peale halastand.
Mu oma mõtted ära kaovad
ja armumerre üksnes vaovad."

Thank you for sharing it with us.
May it lift every spirit from the noise and anxiety of the present to the glorious love of God and the future that He has prepared in Jesus Christ.
