  • incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • daaaamnn i wanna learn bass too now haha

  • non sei nessuno avoglia ke pubbliki video, nessun artista famoso ti prenderà a suonare

  • amazing tone. always inspiring. tell me good sir, can i get this tone from an american deluxe precision bass? i have seen so many of your videos and i just love that jazz bass tone... but i also like the precision bass tone.. would that give me what im lookin for?

Thanks again for being an inspiration! you make me want to become a better bassist every time i see and hear you play. thanks bro!

  • A jazz bass for this kind of tone

  • nice tone.

    respect

  • so... Why does the B minor pentatonic work with this? Is it because you're replacing B phrygian? which is a minor type of "scale" ?

  • Yes, basically we can use most of the modes and scale them down to pentatonic scales. For example instead of phrygian (1, b2, b3, 4, 5, b6, b7) we simplify it to minor pentatonic (1, b3, 4, 5 ,b7) . Why? Because the pentatonic sclae is in the bassplayers "dna", its a scale most of know licks from - we have the fingering allready.

So it all about reusing the things we know to make up new and interesting lines

  • 1:25, I've seen that lick on another video... yours of course... Nice to discover you use the licks that you teach us ! (sorry my english, from argentina)

  • I never use the Phrygian:-)

  • GREAT PIECE, Where can u be seen playing live in the states ? do you play in the states? your playing is awesome, everytime I watch a video of yours I feel inspired and it makes me pick my bass up and "make LOVE to it" LOL! proverbial of course. Thanks for the videos...

  • I am your fan

  • Smooth playing dude. =D

  • wow, so nice to hear you flow melodically, i mean the rhythm and soul and precise feel that your 'funk'/slap playing shows is even more impressive, or enjoyable here (for me)... really beautiful, soulful and tasty stuff. i'll be listening to that again.

love what you do and what you're doing with it here on youtube!

    thanks again.

  • xD I wasn't paying attention to the screen and at first thought it was a guitar being played on only the bass strings. This is crazy awesome.

  • Great playing! Tone and note selection amazing! What type of equipment are using for drums and guitar chords? Thank you and keep posting as I am learning alot from your wonderful playing!

  • how do you create such a beautiful tone?

  • Favor bridge p-up, down with tone (Jaco sound), korg pandora with compression, chorus and a tad reverb. No , it all in the fingers;-)

  • It's not just his equipment, you can tell his fingers and heart add a great amount of tone as well. Every little slide and dynamic variation adds a great amount of soul.

  • your tone is always perfect!

  • great! Thanks so much.

  • beautiful.......

  • this just never wears thin. i enjoy it every time i return. thank you, Marlowe

  • Just wanted to say thanks for all your time and effort. Love your playing, Best regards.

  • keep postin' man...ur my new teacher. i plan to learn a lot from ya'. i'm learning the different scale (i'm learning the dorian scale now) what i need to know is how do i apply them once i learn them. i just can't figure it out. please post something that could help. thanks

  • Man, you have lots of soul, lots and lots! =)

  • You are an excellent musician and I thank you for posting your vids. You slow things down and it gives one a chance to see what it is your doing. Thank you very much you are a blessing to all of use. I wish many other of the musicians on youtube would slow things down like you do....Thanks again, oh man your basses sound beautiful....

  • nice job!. most of these i hate listening to but yours sounded great

  • Marlowe....five basses...that is just not fair. Also, I am sending you the bill for my medical co-pay. I hurt my neck bopping to the groove. Nice job bro. Call me if you ever want to unload a bass cheap. 1-800-555-BASS :)

  • to Pellet99:

    Its 8 basses;-)

  • wooten used this scale a lot when soloing...

  • This is incredible. The only thing cooler than listening to music like this, is knowing that someday I might be able to play music like this.

  • Damn dude that is inspiring! Are you using the bridge pu or both? Great sound and feel which fits in with the song perfectly. Loving it.

  • Nice work , really, but are all the riffs true to the scale or are there any passing notes?

  • I looked on your info but i couldn't find any info on what loop/track program you use, i have fruityLoops, kinda wierd, and wont install Cubase just for simple drum tracks.. and also wondering if you've ever played any Pleasure tracks, like Glide or smthing? ;)

  • I had a large temptation to flag it as inappropriate for being so amazing.. dude, you're making it groove! much respect! God bless you !

  • Bookmarked!!!

  • Great playing. When you hold your fingers up, what does that mean?

  • scale # 1 & scale # 2

  • nicely done u have shown how important and useful is the major scale to build a solo...

I would lovetu see more form you.

  • And bass players wonder why they HAVE to learn and know scales...they DON'T have to be boring as you can see...

    Great job bro!!!!!!

  • Bass players dont wonder, bass "owners" do!;-)Thx

  • I just love that warm Fender tone! Beautiful playing!

  • hey man dis this lovley stuff..... where can i get the instrumental?

  • no bro if you could just suggest where to get licks like these...

  • bro can you email on how get your licks or if you could suggest a site that i can study licks for this...

  • Nope, listen to records, "steal" and incorporate into your playing.

  • everytime i listen to this song makes me wanna practice more...youre a good motivator man, put more please i wanna learn your techniques =D

  • warms the soul to know there are people like you out there

  • Thx:-), one should always share music and knowledge

  • sweet man. very warm tone a la v. wooten.

  • cool~

  • cool bass, VERY nice sound, sweet soulful playing, just the way we bass players should. I own 2 Jazz oldies myself (74 and 77), and I love them. What kinda amp do you use?

  • Thx:-)No amp, korg px4d into computer

  • Marlowe.. I have korg px4d as well.. but what cable do I use to attach it to computer? do you use it to make the loop?

  • A friend of mine made a cable that splits the output on the Pandora into 2 - a male minijack to go into pc and a female minijack to attach the headphone to for monitoring.

And I use it for the loops (phrase trainer mode on the korg), its meant for learning riffs and is not in good quality, but for a exercise demonstration its ok. Hope it helps

  • See "Marlowe says hello" for info on cable

  • beatufil. and so much soul in it =) thank your for that wonderful piece of music. *subscribe*

  • That was real nice. Another great upload MarloweDK.

  • Amazing, this is my favorite one you have done so far, very soulful, lots of feeling. And the best part is, its a teaching excersise... Bravo! I see your Rickenbacker in the back, I don't know what your other ones are, can you post a vid that shows all of them and what the sound difference between them is, that would be amazing. Thanks

  • Thx, and look at the other videos, all basses are featured

  • I have seen all the vids, I can only three of the four, or i'm just blind. Oh well, keep playing!

  • They are all featured, but keep in mind that the MM jazzbas and the Pbass are both white with black pickguard, and can be mistaken for each other

  • or, how to make exercises soulful !

very beautiful and without that exaggerately active electronics tone often used for this kind of melodies -

    gracious !
