Kids are fat and unhealthy because they sit around on their asses NOT because they eat cookies! If you're going to let your kid sit around on their ass then don't feed them cookies! On the other hand, if they lead active, productive lifestyles then let them eat all the cookies they want (within reason)!
If parents take the time to make "home made' treats like these without trans fats and preservatives that are in store bought treats they are on the right track. Limiting quantities of junk food and giving 'real food" treats is a step in the right direction. Better these cookies than junk from a store.
Instead of using sugar, I think that the pumpkin should be replaced with a naturally sweet fruit to compensate for the sweetness in the cookie. Therefore, it would allow for nutrients to be present in the cookie (which was the idea of putting pumpkin in it in the first place) and provide a different source of sweetness instead of the unhealthy sugar.
If you note I said LARGE amount of sugar and butter!
In australia we have cornflake cookies, they are made with cornflakes and sultanas, have hardly any sugar or butter and kids LOVE them. And they don't contain ANY chocolate.
I think cookies are for a treat, proper choc chip cookies, but they are still selling this as a "healthy option" how many parents are going to send these in there children lunch box to school because the are dubbed healthy!

Tasty looking cookies without a doubt!
But are they healthy? Fail.
Sugar and pumpkin is high in GI, wheat flour contains high amounts gluten, butter contains lactose and has a high fat and calorie content.

I would address the childhood obesity problem by not giving them cookies.

Looks like Jamie Oliver's idea is FINALLY sinking in...
But these still have a large amount of salt, sugar, butter and chocolate...
Good idea, but work is still needed.
