love em or hate em, they aren't going anywhere and have been around for quite a long time....we don't like everything in this world, but just like black jelly beans in the bag, we have to accept it. growing up a friend of mine was gay, he was flamboyent and a lot of fun. but as a child i just accepted it or really didn't care. he was a good person and it's sad to know people would automatically hate him....remember, without expectation, there can be no dissapointment =)
I find it amusing that Sean Penn who is now an activist for Gay rights has always shown support for people like Fidel Castro and Che Guevara who were both behind the 1965 labor camp where many homosexuals were sent and signs at the entrance said "The work will make you men". The intent was to correct homosexual behavior by applying punishment to modify this social deviation. Knowledge is the practical understanding of a subject and Penn seems to have little if any!
As your dog is not a consenting adult human, you, sadly, cannot fulfill your dream of marrying her. Good luck, though in getting the law changed. As homosexual adults are considered consenting, they should have every right to decide who they wish to marry.
To be glad someone is dead is a truly horrible thing to say/think. Good luck in life, but with an attitude and views like you, you're going to get no-where.
He was a friend and defender of Jim Jones, the madman, liberal cult communist who had over 900 of his followers commit suicide by drinking poisoned kool-aid.
Harvey Milk and Jim Jones - both liberal San Francisco power brokers and communists. Political allies and friends.
Married, heterosexual males already have too much political power while single women have no political power at all, and Sean Penn does not deserve to take credit for Harvey Milk and the road leading to Bowers v. Hardwick.
he isn't taking credit for it. he's merely drawing our attention to the life of a man many don't know about. perhaps you knew of harvey milk before this movie was made, but many (myself included) hadn't. by making this movie, sean penn isn't trying to take credit for harvey milk or anything he did. he's showing us something, bringing many issues into a better light. god forbid he try to make a movie about a gay politician, right?
There are serious economic issues for those of us who are genuinely oppressed, such as employment expectations and obstacles, that turning civil rights into an entertainment when there is a need rather for affirmative action does not address. I should not be asked or required to provide entertainment before being elected to public office or teaching in a public school. You fail to recognize how insulting is the +5 given to naasrddad for writing "shut the fuck up and make some coffee bitch."
I can provide more information regarding the documentary in that case, it is called The Times of Harvey Milk, by Robert Epstein and Richard Schmiechen, and I agree with you, Marikaya4, that everyone should know who Harvey Milk is, but I object to Sean Penn playing Harvey Milk because the Hamlet he advocates is notorious for appraising physical appearance in a woman and Penn obviously chose his wife for physical beauty. "The man just gets to do whatever he pleases" makes for bad studio policy.
I'm a woman and even I found that funny! STFU takeonescreen. I'm for equality for women but you are fucking retarded! MILK was by far one of the best films, if not the best movie I have had the privilige to see. Sean Penn earned that Oscar and he is one sexy son of a bitch!

Thank you! I'm glad someone mentioned that part. The only thing discusting about this is it took so long for me to know who Milk was given my lifestyle and love of history so on so forth. I cried watching the documentary and how cold and vile the whole killing was. he shot two unharmed government officals a few times before putting the gun to the mans head and doing it close range. I can't believe they only gave that prick 8 years. Makes me sick. Everyone should know who Harvey Milk was. Thanks!

I think his struggle to speak reflects his lack of sincerity. Cheap humor another tale tale sign he is uncomfortable. I think there are a lot of people who truly don't care about society but only how they can profit from this group and that group. It is all about the money and making yourself look enlightened or thought of as a higher thinker. It's all a big joke. Not only will I not see this movie but I'll never watch another one he or his enlighten friends make.
I saw the movie in london today and it is excellent. Sean Penn is brilliant and the film has guts, is truthful and moving. I just wonder what he would have felt about the Castro today. He would ahve liked the fun bits I guess, but the community? What Aids sadly achieved in terms of a loving caring community savoured to remember all those dead souls, post-traumatic stress and its result Tina has destroyed much good left in what could be called a gay community.
Penn gave a speech on set wishing that "George Wallace, Jerry Falwell were alive to see this.. Almost" ...
"Bill O'Reilly, who is too stupid to talk about," and "Sean Hannity, the butt boy of Rupert Murdoch," ... "We know something more. We know their end is near." Penn, you're my idol. Can't wait to see this movie!
Apalled at SF being totally commercialized, especially the Castro. Back in the 70's it was mainly Gay men who lived around there. Today, straight people dominate more of the Castro because of the AIDS crisis,a large majority of men died unfortunately. It is sad.
There will never be a large gay mecca again because of the economic disparity and the fact there aren't many gay men willing to live that experience again.
I think that the need for a gay mecca is less now because of people like Harvey Milk. In a sense, the gay mecca has spread out because of the progress of gay tolerance and awareness. Gay events and parades have now become the meccas for gay people to gather. And today there are so many places to gather than in 1978.
I wish Sean Penn realized what a huge insult Fleet Week and the Blue Angels Air Show military recruitment drive are to the memories of both Harvey Milk and George Moscone.
Dianne Feinstein invited them here, three years after Harvey and Geroge's murder, and our city government has been inviting that massive military recruitment drive that they never would have invite here ever since.
I also do not think that either Harvey Milk or George Moscone would have backed Barack Obama.
I saw the room when I lived in SF where Harvey was shot and it was creepy. I think his ghost or should I say spirit is still in that room. I marched in the 1998 Memorial walk and the energy was great.
no! i didn't say anything even close to that. i made that statement a month ago. we had no candidate for president yet. i think he would have leaned more toward Clinton. but' like my other comment...no one can really say. i talked to Milk a few times years ago when i was very young & i'm just going by the feelings he gave me. i think he would have disliked McCain very much.
Fuck some common sense into them ! Fantastic way of putting it, Sean.
